Subject: RE: TAN #196 BlaTANt Adulation for Yanti the Indefatigable!cgregg - 2013-03-08 11:49 AM Ahh, yeah... that whole game. The way NVIDIA and ATI muck up their model numbering doesn't make it easy to follow and keep track of what works and what doesn't. On the up side, this ended a lot smoother than it might have. Had you gone with a much higher level card, you could have gotten into territory where the card required an external power connector, which your power supply may or may not have, and may or may not have sufficient output to support; so you could have ended up upgrading that as well For future reference, DVI & HDMI are the same in terms of video signal. HDMI is simply DVI with Sound added to it. What this means is that you can get a simple DVI-to-HDMI adapter (or vice versa) to re-use existing cables. No, I kept that in mind. Checked the power requirements. What I did learn (and will forget to do). Is open up the computer and look at everything and write it down. Maybe even print out the specs. MAYBE even take cell phone pics of the back of the computer, inside, monitors, etc. So I don't have to shoot from the hip. The 610 needed 300w so I figured I was good (and no additional power). When I looked at the GeForce 630, they needed 350w and it just went up. I didn't want to get into that, so that played a factor. Yeah, I figured out the cable thing. It was almost as expensive to find a hdmi to hdmi mini cable/adaptor than getting new cables. I pump sound through a stereo and speaks, so I decided to go with DVI and forgo the HDMI.
