Has anyone used these? I ride a Cannondale CAAD 10 road bike. BT is full, FULL I say, of 'bike fit' threads and advice to get more watts/aero/02/comy etc on the bike. The vast majority of them will say spend upwards of $250.00 on a bike fit. And they'd be right. But I don't have $250.00 for a 'fitting'. That being said, there are LOTS of things you can do to adjust your riding position. But first-TAKE SOME PICTURES (or better, still. Video). We need to see you on the bike from the side with pedals at dead bottom and head on from the front. I've fitted dozens of 'weekend warrior' triathletes and none have died. We may be able to assist.
Will do thanks for the help |

Truth. The first step is to identify the discomfort with specificity. Triceps, lower back, quads, hamstrings? The "right" fit is the one that works for you. It might be a stem issue, a spacer issue, or an aerobar spacer issue. Since I've had my tri bike only about 4 months, one of the biggest learning curves is adapting to the position - shoulder and arm angles, keeping my head up (I put a sign on the floor saying "stop reading this" so I keep my head up), neck and shoulder flexibility, keeping the back flat instead of arched, hip angle, saddle setback . . . If your belly is getting in the way, my first guess would hip angle, saddle height, and saddle position. |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed Went for a nice 5 mile run today with some gentle rolling terrain. Foot did not give me any trouble, which is a good sign as I ramp up for the first half marathon of my season in about 4 weeks. After work will be some cardio-kick followed by happy hour to say farewell to a co-worker who is moving on. Said happy hour will likely involve enjoying a nice Lagunitas IPA, one of my favorite and nicely balanced IPA's. Edited by MOlsen 2014-01-30 3:35 PM |

Expert 1662 Spokane, WA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed 21 and 22/31 this morning. 10x100 in the pool, and a 30 minute spin bike workout. The 10 100's is the first time I've ever done this. I did 5 on 30' rest and 5 on 60' rest. 5 were at 1:58, and the others were all at 2:08-2:15. That's hard to stay consistent when muscles get fatigued. Thanks for all the swim motivation BDAAS'ers. Goal for 2014. At some point, I'm going to start a HIM training plan minus the running. Hoping I'll be able to add running as calf holds out. I'd also like to complete some sprints, and maybe an OLY this year. Calf is starting to feel slightly better, but it still nags every morning. I've been off it for 8 weeks now. |

Clearly, I'm not great at resting. I'm toying with the idea of doing tomorrow's ride tonight and then calling Saturday my rest day. |

Did 40 min. on the rollers before dinner. 23-24/30 Friday: swim in AM. 20 x 50 (1-10 in :58-1:00), (10-15 in :55-:56), (16-19 in :53), (20 in :50). Leaving in 1:20 Maybe starting to feel the catch' better, definitly getting better with high elbows. Will run stairs tonight with group. Should end month with 26/31. Yay!

New user 32 | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed rolling up what I did this week: Monday: split brick - tempo swim at lunch, hour bike in the evening; Tuesday: track run at lunch; Wednesday: tempo swim at lunch, bike 80 min in the evening; Thursday: track run; Friday: 60 min bike; plan to hit the track for a run on Saturday. I am in foundation mode for the next 2 months - lots of tempo & continuous runs keeping my heart rate within 65% MHR, I am after base milage building. I have been doing short HIIT for the past year. I can go super hard for 1/2hr maybe 45min but I can not hold out for the long haul and that is where I need to be. What method do most people use to calculate your heart rate? Age adjusted? Maffeton? Percieved rate? Or do you even pay much attention to it? |

Percieved rate? Or do you even pay much attention to it? I use the Karvonen method to get a rough idea. Here is a summary of the popular methods... http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=... . Most of the folks will argue the only way to get training zones is to do a LT field test. I can't find the BT article on the testing and how it's done but it;s something like a 30 min TT. warm up then start. 10 min into the 30 hit lap on your HR monitor so you just get the avg over the last 20 min. Go hard enough to know you left nothing on the table. Then you can plug in your newly found LT and get your accurate zones. Honestly I'm to lazy to do this so I still use the Karvonen method. I had a friend do a lab test for HR zones and found his lab results and Karvonen were only a few beats off. That's close enough for me |

Age adjusted? Maffeton? Percieved rate? Or do you even pay much attention to it? Early on, I sat down and calculated them all, and, oddly enough, they all spit out about the same number. It varies, but for me, it's around 130 to 140bpm. My threshold rate is around 165, my resting is around 46, and my max is around 185. Sitting at my desk typing this post, it's at 54bpm. Stated another way, 5bpm slower than your average easy run. I pay a ton of attention to it. One of my problems is that I can't tell a huge difference between zones. It's easy for me to slip from 135 to 155 without thinking about it. When I ran my HM, I was surprised that the recommended zone was so high - it had me working harder than I wanted to. My desires are to stay just on that pain threshold, between easy and hard - and that zone doesn't yield results. Easy or hard, pick one. |

Expert 2180 Boise, Idaho | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed I mostly do RPE. However, you have to be pretty diligent about logging your workouts, including notes i.e temp., sleep, diet etc. A hot day can make your HR jump up quite alot-I DO like to know what my max is-I find it's a great way to judge fitness throughout the season. So....what's everybody doing for the SuperBowl? |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed I'm wrapping up January by regaining the title in my company's 3rd annual Chili Cook-off, my cuisine reigns supreme! Last year's winner took second place so next year the rivalry will continue. After work I plan on going for at least a 3 or 4 mile run to burn off some of the copious amounts of chili I ate and celebrate with a nice tasty brew. On Saturday I'll try to post my January totals. If I get my run in tonight I'll have 28/31 days of workouts, with more than a few couple double workout days. |

Hale's winter Brew and a Widmer Columbia River Ale tonight. Super Bowl plans are simple. Watch hawks lose and listen to them complain about how the refs stole another super bowl from them. It's a common theme in seahawk land. |

Regular 866 Central Coast, CA | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed Monthly totals for January:
One of my biggest swim months and my run is ramping up again. Bike was mostly commuting, not many long miles there. To celebrate a good solid month I enjoyed a taster flight at a local brewery, Pismo Brewing Co. in Pismo Beach. Most of the beers were ok, nothing special, however they recently changed the recipe on their double IPA and it's improved a lot since I last had it. |

Regular 302 Georgetown, KY | Subject: RE: Beer Drinker Appreciation/Accountability Society 3 - Closed Been a pretty lousy week as far as training goes... Havent met any of my goals and I think I am at 3 workouts for the week.... My foot acted up on me the only run day, and then my truck had a brake caliper lock up, so I have been scrambling for rides to work and back and trying to source parts. Now today I have to fix it. I did get my 20 in for the month and I think a couple of more, I have to transfer data from my garmin to remember though. It's been a long week. Next week is a new week though, and I will have to start ramping up my miles for February. I need to remember that in a matter of months I have to move 70.3 miles non stop! |

After a brutally hard 'stairs' session I went to the local grocery to get some food and a beverage. I noticed this strange beer, ...Lagunitas IPA. I remembered hearing the name....I pondered.....Lite Beer that Taste Great, but is Less filling or this 'new' beer. An IPA which I normally don't care for. Someone in the group mentioned that IPAs taste 'better' on subsequent glasses. I thought loooong and hard about my decision. I gently picked up the tall, glass bottle of Lagunitas IPA-it felt good in my hand. 6.something % alcohol. Whoa! That's kinda strong....then out of the corner of my eye, I saw something....a sale tag? This 'La-gun-I-tas' was ON SALE. Beer Drinkers/BadAsses had sent an omen. I would try this beer.....this I.P.A. Congrats on your win, share that winner recipe! 20/31 after 12k run this morning - not a bad month to start 2014, but need to be more consistent, season is approaching quickly. Anyway, will celebrate tonight with some friends, simple pilsners to start, then tasting of 3 different unknown wine regions to get motivated for the new month. |

This is a workout where you do 8 exercises 8x for 20"on and 10" off. It was killer. Enjoyed Hales winter brew last night. I'm going to miss it when all the spring beers come out and the winter brews go bye,bye until next year. |
