Welcome, Randee! Bless you, my child. Also, unfortunately, you'll have to start putting SOMETHING in your BT logs. We're very nosy and stalkish that way, and we like to come and harass you. Doubly so if there's nothing there. In fact, three of us are semi-pro pro triathlete stalkers. |

I know exactly what's gonna be happen. It'll be, like, 11pm and I'll have been waiting for hours and start panicking and call the pastor's house and wake his kids up and scream at them WHERE IS MY MOTHER??? Then she'll waltz (stumble-polka in, they and she are German) in totally wasted around 12:30am and puke everywhere. Karma. |

Regular ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by mtnbikerchk I'm TOTALLY crashing this party! (well, not really, I had an invite ;) First and foremost let me say I'd never heard of Betty Designs blueyedbikergirl so I just waltzed over to their website and I LOVE IT! The name? MtnBIkerChk or MBC for short. Or Randee for real. I turned 40 this year and for some reason I figured it would be a good idea to try some triathlons. I've done 9 sprints and number 10 is on the books for September. Next year I'm scheduling an Oly and a HIM and I'm an Internet junkie and could surf about swimming, running and biking all day long - and it looks like you all do so here I am! Of course today is the 1 day I won't be at my desk all day so go ahead, poke at the new kid and I'll have to respond later tonight. I'll even give you a topic to start with: I'm really bad about posting my workouts on BT but everything goes into garminconnect so if you're really interested you can check me there. Otherwise I will sit down and put it into BT. I'm only 2 months behind :) Welcome Randee! Am I reading that right, this is your first year and you've already done 9 tris? Nice! Can you just bulk upload your data from your Garmin to BT? I think there's a button for that. (I may have to test my screen shot abilities---ack!) One of the more computer savvy people here could explain it much better, than I.

There's a local off road tri series in the summer here - and I did 6 of their 10 and then 3 on various weekends so racking them up was easy ![]() I'm working on uploading them. It's not too bad. I think I'm up to the middle of July. |

It's two minutes long, and hit me just right. Apologies if you've already seen it. Which is a spoof on the longer, but also funny, I've seen them before but always good for a chuckle!!! Am I more aero like this or this? This? Or this? This??? |

He should be doing that right about now! GO FOX-AY!!! Youch, this race hurt. It was all the bike, and I wasn't ready for a 20 mile rolling course. The swim was good. I finally felt comfortable in the open water - victory. I only pity-walked once - victory. I might even have a decent average speed on the bike, but that's what did me in. I haven't had a run hurt like that since my first 5k. But I persevered, and my second lap was faster, and I ended up feeling pretty good on the run, though it was death earlier. The race report cometh. Way to go TOM!!! Some nice victories for you, and way to push through a tough spot on the run... now, where's that report?? |

I'm Monica (or Tangerines as I was thus dubbed by our one and only Yantilicious) and welcome to the Manatees, we'll try not to frighten you too much... no promises though. Congrats on your accomplishments - 9 sprints already? DANG, that's impressive! Though Yanti's right, you really will have to get your training logs on BT up to date otherwise we'll bug you mercilessly about them, but in a loving way. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Originally posted by Artemis Originally posted by blueyedbikergirl Originally posted by Artemis Originally posted by Asalzwed How do you guys manage your preventative care and make generally good decisions about your health? I've always been an exceptionally healthy person and don't want to do anything unnecessary, as my time is valuable, but I want to be sure I am doing everything I should be doing and I really have no idea what that is. Is there a comprehensive list of things/frequencies I should be getting screened for, especially as I get older? I imagine this has to be a little specific given my family history and the way I live my life. It seems so overwhelming. About the only thing I do regularly is a flu shot.
I don't have a choice. I have a chronic disease that requires me to go to the doctor as often as every 12 weeks. I have to make time to get the blood work done, wait for a specialist, etc. If I can do that as often, the other routine visits are a lot easier. You definitely want to talk to a primary care doctor to see what tests you need and when. For example, my mom was diagnosed with colon cancer at 43. Her oncologist recommended I get a colonoscopy at 30, and then every 5 years after. Lucky me. It's one of those things - the earlier you start going and getting in the habit, the easier it is and the more likely it is that things are caught early. That's definitely one thing that I need to look into - getting a primary care physician. I've got enough wrong with me that I'd rather have someone that will know me and my myriad of issues. I had forgotten about the colonoscopy stuff... yep, I've had 2 of those already though for a different reason, I'll never forget being in the "recovery" room with a bunch of others that had just had the azz-cam done and we were all told to just keep farting. We were a very musical group. lol...yeah, it's a trip. The doctors and nurses are so blase about it! When I worked at Epic Systems (Madison-based company making EMR software), I went down to Northwestern for a week to help train the nurses. One day, I was in the post-colonoscopy unit. It was an experience! Hahahahahaha!!! I bet it was! |

Fortunately, she came home early (early as in 9min ago, at 10:30) and was merely woozy and has cheerfully passed out. Unfortunately, the folks who came and got her were different from the folks who had come last time, so she still had a little too much to drink. Fortunately, really just a little. She doesn't smell at all and she's not puking. Just happy. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Way to go Tom! Look forward to the RR. Yanti, I hope the puking is kept to a minimum and most of it does not require a clean up... I'm not sure who the inviter was, but I sure hope they warned the invitee about us ahead of time...Welcome Randee! Although if you have already gotten through 9 events, you can surely survive us! I had a long and weird day yesterday and got no workouts in. I was up early for a podiatry appointment, worked, then went to this weird theatrical performance. The tickets were free and I am not kidding when I say it was the strangest thing I have ever seen. It was in the works/maintenance yard at Stanley Park (1000 acre park on the ocean). The 'stage' was one of those cargo containerspainted white, bordered by stacked cargo containers painted white. There was no seating because it was considered audience participation. The first scenes included children being picked out of the audience and being auctioned off as part of the show. There was a scary headmistress scene in which her head was projected onto the cargo containers behind the stage and her arms onto the cargo containers at the side, and she kept saying she was squeezing and hugging us (the audience). Many of the scenes were acted out in the audience, with scary men in trenchcoats and fedoras on contraptions which made them fly. The main character turned into a fish, and we were part of the jury to judge whether she was a 'fish-fish' or a 'not-fish'. We had to put blindfolds on for no less than 5 minutes, to simulate crossing the ocean on a cargo ship... |
