Now I am no rocket scientist but I can't get the minutes to add up to the total of 2:55 my plan is calling for. Seems like Run #1 is 2:20 and Run #2 is :20 so 2:40 Total. Am I missing something? OK, definately got off track this last 2 weeks with a major move, new job, selling a house, and oh BTW a beqch trip in the middle of all this. If moving is IM training then I am ready! Run: RUN #1 I think the math just doesn't add up. Me and a buddy here in Austin are both training using this plan and decided to add the needed time to the first part of the workout. As it reads currently, this is identical to last Thursday's long run I believe. Therefore, I think we add the time to that. Then in the evening we are doing the 20' run. On another note, training is coming along well. My confidence got a boost in the past week or so. Today went so much better than I expected. I did a 5+ hour ride. Went 87 miles. Took a couple of hours to rest and eat and then went out for my swim. Did the workout as prescribed (which included some pretty hard/fast work). Total of 4500. That is my longest swim ever. Feeling good knowing that my body has gotten strong enough to do both of these workouts in one day and I am NOT feeling like roadkill! Amazing! I hope others are doing well also. Tomorrow morning we have a long run to do. Hoping that goes well. Then Monday I am off to Colorado for 12 days of vacation with my family. Bringing along my "friend" Ironman. No escaping the training. Work hard and be strong! See you all in Louisville! Brian |

The same thing happens 1 or 2 more times along the way. kproudfoot - 2010-06-26 5:46 PM Quick question for those of you doing the 20wk BT plan. My workout for tomorrow is below. Champion 5575 Butler | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Got 2 flats today during my ride. 1st was a puncture and the 2nd I am pretty sure was caused by the hole from the first. Should be good practice if someone decides to tack the road again like last year. Think I will bring a bunch of tubes just in case and put them in my bike mid-way bag. |

Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Well, I did my first century of the year yesterday. My hydration plan was good, but the nutrition was off. I got to about mile 90 and just flat out bonked. Time to go back to the drawing board for a bit of tweaking and adjusting. Other than that, and four flat tires, it was a good ride. Pace was solid and the bike felt good. 61 days and counting. |

Seems to be a good tune up for the race. Could you give me some info on it? I'm signed up for Cardinal Harbour. Plan to do the loop of the KY course the next day before heading home. I hope this gives me a good idea of where I stand for August Hey, I'm doing Cardinal Harbour and was planning on riding the course (part of it anyway) the next day too! I'm hoping Cardinal Harbour goes well, and can't wait to ride the bike course. Awesome! We should get together and ride, at least some portion of the course. Safety in numbers, you know? |

Member 19 Jeffersonville, IN | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread brown_dog_us - 2010-06-26 4:47 PM Thanks again brown_dog (and kproudfoot), I'll definitely make an effort to slow down more like you suggest, and I've read a lot about learning how to balance first lately and definitely need to work on that. My problem is that I'm so impatient that I hate "wasting" time when I could be doing "real" training but I've finally realized how important those basics are on the swim. That sounds familiar! I'll tell you a little bit about my situation and what I did to get better, and maybe you can apply some of it to your swims. I came into triathlon from running and I was in pretty good shape. My problem was that cardio strength doesn't translate so well into the pool. Looking back I was fighting the water and wearing myself out. The solution came in two parts. The first was to slow down. I started playing a game to see how slow I could swim 100 yards. Amazingly, I discovered that I wasn't tired after swimming 100's of yards as long as I went slow. The next step was to learn to balance in the water and get my legs up. It's important to learn how to do this with out having to kick a lot. The reason is that kicking hard will tire you out pretty quick. Once I figured the balance thing out I started swimming close to 2 min/100 yards without too much effort. In fact just knowing that there others in my same situation (good running base but struggled at first on the swim) makes me feel a lot better about my IM prospects. |

We just need to turn it up a bit more and hold on. |

Extreme Veteran 331 Latonia, Kentucky (near Cincinnati) | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread That's great about the rides and OW swims! I'll be there. On the earlier note about tacks on the road. My wife raced it last year and ended up with a "tack" flat. She was having an awesome ride up to that point, and ended up changing the flat, but only getting about 50lbs of pressure in the tire and ended up riding the second half on a much deflated tire, which trashed her legs for the run. She still PR'd by an hour, but the WHAT IF factor still haunts her, and man was she pissed off. Makes you rethink some bike strategy for sure. Good luck, be careful and I'll see you for a ride in July hopefully. |

I figure I can use PitStop for the first one, but if I get multiple ones I'm doomed. I'm not sure my wife could use the PitStop, because the directions on the can are in Jiberish. Were the tacks in only one area and was it on the Lagrange loop where we would pass it twice? |

Champion 5575 Butler | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I feel pretty good so far but I know July is going to suck it up big time. I start working on budget at work which is a lot of extra hours plus all the training and trying to find family time. Body feels decent. Knees are getting a little sore and my back has issues the last 2 years. I keep doing excercise given to my by the PT but it only keeps the problem from getting worse, not any better. I would love to come on the 31st since it is pretty much my longest training day and my family will be in FL but I don't want to spring for a hotel (too much spent on training already). As far as the tacks go I think WTC should rent a few of the blowers nascar used to clean the track after a wreck and blow the whole course clean on race day. |

She DID run tubbies on both her wheels for the race, AND used PITSTOP, which didn't go so well. Tubbies were no match for the tack. She saw several people changing flats in the same area. Who knows if they just drove by and dumped them or what. Whack jobs. |
