Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I went to my PT today. He doesn't think its a femur stress fracture (but he didn't say its out of the question either). He wants me to have two deep tissue messages and do a couple of 6 mile runs after. If I am still experiencing, the same pain he wants me to get it checked out. He said it might have something to do with my sciatic nerve with my muscles being sore, etc but doesn't think stress fracture. |

See if the massages help but I would go see and orthopedist, preferably a sports trained one and see if you can get an MRI or bone scan to rule that stress fracture out |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Another vote for Infinit here - I have switched from Perpetuem in the last month. I use the custom triathlon bike formula (for run as well although it gets a bit frothy in the Fuel Belt bottles) - works great for me although I agree on the sweet taste in concentrated 3/4/5 hour form but that's a price I'm willing to pay. I did The Nation's Tri on Sunday (or Du as it was only a Bike-Run following all the rain we had last week). All the bike and run work I have been doing in the last few months seemed to pay off for that distance at least as I took 5 mins off last year's bike and run times .... and for those who have been following my saddle switch issue the new Adamo saddle was fine (and has been for a couple of longer rides as well). Now to put in those final few weeks of longer rides and runs. Most of my tri club have now done their Ironman races (apart from the three who have qualified for Kona !) and I'm getting impatient .... I just got a new bike formula. I will have to keep an eye on things. Good point. Yea it is kind of like the eggs in one basket thing. Hmmm. I will have to make sure the formulas I use are tested in training first. I had thought about ordering single packs with the flavor dialed down for the race but I don't think I will do that now. Use what you train with right... Thanks man. |

To avoid the situation Sue talked about (I know same folks) use some of the formula in training and save some for IM. Don't use a new shipment for race without having it tested out. I am a big believer in having a back up nutrition plan that you have tried that is stuff off the course so you know how to adjust if you have to. It is wicked expensive...you can make your own drink with Maltodextrin for about 5% the cost and mix it up at home with carbs, electrolytes and flavoring you want. |

I always carry along the old stand by of endurolytes and gels. I am drinking the ironman drink also so I know what to expect in a worse case scenario. Pan A and plan B always a good idea. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Another vote for Infinit. Been using since last year prior to B2B. I did the same as several on here. Started with a general formula and then called the consultant and dialed in further. I just ordered again and dialed the taste way back which is what I haven't done. I had made 2 hour bottles and the tasted was to strong. This time same calories with less tasted. Using it for first time this weekend. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Last year there were a few jellyfish(cannonball type) but they don't have long tentacles so they weren't a problem for me. They just kind of surprise you when swimming in dark water and they look almost luminescent. Hope that helps and see you there in only 7 weeks(yikes)

I am a big believer in having a back up nutrition plan that you have tried that is stuff off the course so you know how to adjust if you have to. That's what I am going back to as my base. IM Perform and PB Gels. I know they will have those on the course. On a good news front I had the opportunity to fly to NYC this weekend. Did my long run in Central Park. What a blast! First of all I forgot how hilly it actually is but the temps were right around 68 - 70 and overcast on Sunday. That is about 25 degrees and 30% lower humidity than I am used to running in. What a difference that makes in a run. I have been struggling these last couple of LR's because it has been so hot. Just couldn't keep a great pace the entire way. I really needed this as a confidence booster. Got in about 14 miles and the last 2 miles were by far the fastest of the day. Feeling good about it. My training is taking somewhat of a hiccup for the next couple of weeks. Between travel and we have a sprint on Sunday (working the kids sprint on Saturday) then Augusta next week. So no long ride/run this weekend and then travel Thur/Fri next week. I know everything will be fine and we'll pick back up with a vengeance after Augusta but but when I am getting this close and my routine gets messed up.......... Anyone else get antsy when they have to rearrange/miss a workout? enjoy, Duane |

This makes things even worse because you need to wait till you get better to start training hard again. I keep telling myself that one week will not affect anything. I just hope I don't have a stress fracture. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() yesssss....antsy and annoyed. i get my workout sched planned out around my "real" work, and then when there are interruptions, im not a happy camper. but i try to keep my eye on the carrot as best i can and just deal with it. but i get the guilty feeling when a workout is missed or shortened beyond my control. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() after i posted the above, it got me thinking of WHY i get so antsy.... i think i am getting the pre-race jitters and its making me nervous. Although i believe in controlling what I can in "the box", its hard to not think about the what-ifs... heavy winds, rain, etc. ... my potential lack of fitness ... and all the other stuff out there. I know to believe in the training plan. I feel I have a decent amount of tris under my belt, although maybe not the fastest out there. i apologize in my expressing my feelings and sounding all psychobabble-ish, but just getting this off my chest i think makes me feel better. Im sure im not the only one out there that gets that nervous stomach feeling that i get when I think about nov 5th at 7am!!! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() It is hard to believe it is only 7 weeks away!!! I'm excited and nervous all wrapped up in one. Since today is Sept 15 and the only day you can cancel without penalty, we just cancelled one of our condos at the Boardwalk. They wouldn't let us transfer it to another individual. I belive it was a 2 bedroom that sleeps 6 and has a minimum 5 night reservation required. Don't know if anyone is interested but might still be worth calling to see if it is still available. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hic-Ups are opportunities for change.. Making adjustments, in sequence of disciplines, timing, distance, effort and intensity are always good... Shakes things up. Always approach it with a positive attitude and stay focused is hwat makes it work............... |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I've been really antsy this week too because I have to work all weekend and they are 12.5 hour shifts. Plus having to go to my daughters volleyball games twice a week. Really hard to get workouts in around those shifts. Today did my long swim fol by a 5 hour bike. Managed 85 miles and my long swim was 3200. Felt great when I was finished now I'm not as antsy about missing a few shorter workouts. I know all I have to trust the plan! I'm not fast by any means and really just have a goal of finishing strong, upright and have a smile on my face( no med tent ) will be a plus!! |
![]() ![]() |
Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Trusting your intincts is key. Listening to and reading the body will get you there... I follow my own instictive plan and have for many years from running. I don't follow designed plans.. Just knowing how much, when and what is my method of madness.. Ironman will be so much mental along with the right nutrition for the individual... The body is just the machine that we fine tune and drive to the finish in auto pilot. |
