Cincyman1113 - 2012-08-02 12:15 PM 24 days and counting.  Do you people want to get together Friday night before the dinner / manadatory meeting? Has anyone made reservations for dinner anywhere on Saturday? I remember last year it was hard to get reservations (at least early reservation) for that night. Luckily we found an Olive Garden but I can't remember where that was.  Go figure.  Laughing

Louisville is such a big city I'd suggest getting out of the race area to eat on Saturday night.

Last year my support team (10 people in all) headed across the river and ate at a BJ's Brewhouse. Nice selection of food, gluten-free menu items, and of course a huge beer menu for the non-participants. We called ahead due to the size of our party but it wasn't athlete-crowded like downtown was.

Batlou - 2012-08-02 7:48 AM Woo Hoo!  #2299 for me.  A likely prediction of my overall finish?  Yup, sounds about right.

2294 here, looks like we're neighbors.  Are you bringing a pump in on race day?  I have no one to hand it off to so I'm looking to borrow.

I never plan where to go on my own, I just look for Lisa's posts and go where she recommends.  She recommended an italian join in Imoo and it was great.  And now my plan for IMLOUS is to hit BJ's Brewhouse

I prefer to stay downtown, but BJ's Brewhouse sounds like a place I could love on 8/27.

krazytallchick - 2012-08-02 9:35 AM #510 is ready to rock n roll and get this party started!

Hey CrazyTallChick, did you finish the entire 100 miles of the Covington Century today? I got to the rest stop at mile 20 and saw on my phone that thunderstorms were on their way so I finished with the 30 miler.  Still got drenched in the rain though before I got back to my car.

I did complete the full 100 miles. It rained on us for a short period of time then it cleared up and it ended up being a good day. I did a brick run afterwards and surprisingly feel good.

Cracked my first 100 mark today right on plan!!  Question and request for some diagnosis if anyone can help.  In the 5th hour today I began to have an incredibly hard time breathing.  Seems like nothing i could do could help.  It was very hot and humid today here in W. Michigan with a air quality alert so I am hoping that could have been a cause of it.  Only other thing i could think of was being in the aero position for so long was constricting my breathing?  Any thoughts or suggestions would help.

That darn weatherman lied to me again. It was supposed to thunderstorm from 10am on.  Had I known that I would have continued.  Great job on finishing your first full century and the run afterwards.  Only 3 more weeks and that 100+ miler and run will be for real  Laughing

Congrats WOT, me too, went 105 when all was said and done.  Can't help you with the breathing, just giving a thumbs up for the distance.

I finally went to my allergy doc post my HIM in June. My air flow was low enough for them to put me on Singulair and albuterol. When the air quality is bad, my lungs ache. And if I'm doing a hard session like a speed set, I started to wheeze. If you have any allergies, I'd get it checked out. I wish I hadn't put it off. I just thought well, my running has always been slow and painful, it's just gotten worse. Not so! Did my 5th and last century in 95 degrees/70% humidity. Tough but good training.

Has this ever happened to you before on long rides in similiar conditions?   There are so many variables at play that it's hard to say what it could be.  I know I get those symptoms on the run when I'm dehydrated.

I doubt being in aero would be the cause but certainly the air quality might be a factor.

Was supposed to do my 112+ mile ride this weekend and it just didn't happen.  I did 30 on Tuesday, 75 on Thursday, and then I rode out on Saturday and new I just didn't have it in my legs to spend that many hours on the bike, so I turned in and resolved that with a day of rest I could make it happen on Sunday.

Well Sunday I woke up and felt pretty good.  Not as great as I felt on Thursday (set a PR for my 75 mile loop without trying), but I was getting the ride in, but by 50 miles I was exhausted.  I didn't bonk, but I knew I didn't have the energy to keep going as long as I wanted.  Then the torrential rain kicked in, and my first flat of the year happened, and I was done for and finished with 72 miles.  I won't get to do a century ride before louisville (I got at least one in before St George this year), but I've done enough hard miles that I've got my nutrition plan down and I'm hoping the increase in speed I've been seeing the past few weeks will be a good sign.

kidd, I'm sure all of us to one degree or another do at this point, we feel your pain. Last week while on my last long run I felt a pain in the left ham/glute. On Sunday I thought it felt pretty good. Well, 12 mn into a 90 mn run I had to stop and walk home. This morning I couldn't follow the plan and run 60 mn so I got in the pool did some laps and some aqua jogging, finished with a little stretch and ice.

In Ironman they always say, "Have Plan B ready because Plan A ain't going to happen." The good news is the tank is full, what I have to do is whatever it takes to get to the start line at 100% body and mind.

Taper, Taper, Taper!!!  Cool

Hiiiiya,

Can I get some help/feedback about what to wear... This will be my first full IM and I am really debating my wardrobe selection :-)
Issue is, love my race kit, but the chamois pad in my tri shorts is not gonna cut it for 112 miles. I was thinking about swimming in my tri shorts, changing to bike shorts, and then changing back into the same pair of tri shorts but I don't know if logistically, that is even possible. I welcome any thoughts/suggestions.

Your T1 bag won't be accessible in T2, so it would be impossible to put BACK ON your swim shorts for the run.
Some people do complete changes in both transitions, sounds that's like what you might need to do? Wear a swimsuit for the swim?

This will be my first Ironman also.  I was wondering what to put in the special needs bag.  I was thinking of a clean dry pair of socks and shoes for my run bag but I am not sure what I may need for the bike. What are some normal things people put inside these bags???

Keep in mind you won't get your special needs bag back - so don't put anything in there you don't plan on "donating".   Here is what I plan on putting in mine:

Bike:  Extra nutrition (infinite, snickers, etc), spare tube, spare tire (crappy old one), 5 hour energy drink, a little extra chamois cream.

Run:  xtra pair socks, 5 hour energy, maybe some tylenol
