Extreme Veteran 473 Chelsea, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread ckunst - 2013-04-29 10:17 PM We (husband and I) did a short 10" swim tonight to try to get used to immersing ourselves in cold water (water around 55). We pulled our neoprene caps down over our forehead and had another swim cap over that. It went better than I expected - true, it wasn't for all that long. I did have more trouble catching my breath with face in such cold and my heart was beating faster, but that dreaded first plunge into cold water has been taken. I was just thinking last night the lakes in Michigan should be good for a swim outside soon. Maybe after my run on sunday I'll try and see how warm the water is. |

Member 92 Rose Lake, Idaho | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Hello everyone! Last 6 days have been a whirl wind! I want to reply to some of the above. PrivateIdaho: I hope all goes well with your family. Somethings in life are truely bigger than Ironman, and more rewarding in the long run. dkahns: I have yet to ride the course with anything less than 10mph head winds. I hear your frustration. Ah what does not kill us will only make us stronger. Hello all my fellow Michiganders! Great to see so many coming to North Idaho. Feel free to reach out to me for Local advice. Spie4: Saturday might be a go. I swam in Rose lake on Saturday 51 degrees. Really took me 5 mins to convince my body I was seriously going to swim. My wife is having surgery on Thursday, (everything should go well) so I will know more by Friday afternoon. Smithe68: Hang in there. I can see by your posts your plate is pretty full, and I am sure there is alot behind the scenes going on. Try to think about the Big picture and get some rest. I hope everything comes out okay. |

My swim took a dive this month some due to work and home life. It is my worst event too but I felt it was better to lack some there than on the events that are the longest of the day. |

It really is a matter of completing the race is what I have to continue to tell myself. It is funny at times that we work out for 12 hours in a week and tell others that we had a slow week or low hours week and they look at us like we are crazy. |

New user 22 Maple Valley, Washington | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I have used custom swim ear plugs which are awesome. You can check your local "Hearing Aid Clinic", they can have custom plugs made for you. They are a bit expensive but they work, fit and feel great. |

Member 41 Grant, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread We are just north of Grand Rapids and while the water is cold now, I fear that the lake will warm up too fast with this warm weather that finally has arrived. I know I'm being selfish for wanting it to stay cold for awhile, but getting used to cold water is a major issue for me. One thing I forgot to mention - We wore a compression top under the wet suit. My thinking was that it would hold water that warmed up to my body temp closer to me, when new water leaks into my wetsuit. I think it helped (at least psychologically). Will try it again on a longer swim. |

Extreme Veteran 473 Chelsea, MI | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Run 102miles Bike 265miles I need to do some more biking now that it's nice here. Schedule is really getting in the way with the kids in spring sports. This weekend looks fun with a 4.5 hour bike/2.5 hour run on saturday. Since I'm just in it to finish I'm pretty happy with those numbers for April. I only missed two workouts the whole month. Anyone else feel like the race is getting close? I feel like I have some much to do before then. Anyway enjoy the week. Next week is recovery for me thank GOD. Chris |

Member 85 Chicago | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I feel that way, that the race is getting very close The intensity and time involved is getting incredible. Luckily our son is only 18 months old so I'm not having to miss much in terms of activey but honestly I have a good deal of training guilt going right now. Good to remind myself that it's only the next 6 weeks that will continue to be this way..then..on the other hand it's 6 weeks of time that I dont want to lose spending with our little guy. Anyhow, I'm commited to making IMCDA a great day but am feeling the associated costs around this race. On a seperate note just received my neoprene cap and ear plugs and cant wait for the beaches here in Chicago to open up so I can so good bye to the pool! |

Not sure if I'll be able to race as fast as I wanted to and that has been tough on me mentally. May should be a very big month as long as I can hold up on my running. April's totals: Bike: 23h 51m 17s - 477.42 Mi Run: 11h 40m - 94.3 Mi Swim: 10h 19m - 31412 Yd |

My ankles have been hurting like crazy so its really hard for me to run. There are 3-4 water runs that are not in that total to make up for lost time. |

Expert 989 Broomfield, CO | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread Busy morning, just booked airlines, rental car, tribike transport and bought a full sleeve Xterra Vector Pro wetsuit. I booked hotel on the day I signed up 6/25/12. My wife is coming and we are going to spend a couple of days before and after the race in the area. Any good microbreweries in Spokane or the surrounding area? May 1st is bringing about a foot of snow to Boulder and Northern Colorado. I had a miserable run in the snow this morning. Nobody said it was going to be easy training for an Ironman. "Train with joy" as my coach says |

I am soooo over snow. I'm at my desk (in Denver) watching the snow fall and drinking Nuun because I'm doing St George in the desert on Saturday. I'm going to melt on Saturday.

If you are looking for places with lots of options on tap, not just local stuff, there are plenty of places. Manito Tap House, The Bar at Pizza Pipeline (fast becoming a favorite, lots of beers on tap, good pizza, great specials), The Viking, Andy's (one of my personal favorites for a small, quite place with exceptional food as well). |

No Li http://www.nolibrewhouse.com/index.php/you-know-your-from-spokane/ That's good place and good food. If you ask they might give you a tour of their brewery. My department at work spent a couple hours there for Christmas lunch. Needless to say we did not go back to work that day. Manito Tap House -- new place up on the south hill. Heard there is a good selection of beer and food is good as well. https://www.facebook.com/PintsAlehouseSpokane?rf=116158378507796 <- this place has rotating beers and only serves beer. Been in business about year now i think and it is good $5-6 beers. I can't recall how many are on tap at a time. If you go to Pints you will have to let me know so we can meet up for a beer or two or three. It is within walking distance to my place. Notice I didn't speak of anything training related here . I enjoy good beers. |

New user 12 | Subject: RE: Ironman Coeur d'Alene : Official Thread I've still had the mass start question lingering in my brain. Personally, I really hope that CDA swim is a mass start. It's a major staple in the Ironman world. It's part of what makes Ironman exciting to me as well. So maybe we get bumped around a bit, but WE ALL knew what we were signing up for. If we didn't, then we are in for a very rude awakening. Still no word on the Ironman CDA site. In the FAQS section it still says mass. If it does change, I'm not going to let it take anything away from my experience. 140.6 miles is a long way, and to everyone who finishes or even attempts an Ironman should be extremely proud. I tip my hat to you all! April totals look awesome everyone! Keep up the great work! |
