Expert 668![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lancaster, PA | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Pain Free! glad you got the sucker out. loeber - 2010-01-03 11:56 AM30 minutes of home surgery and I am splinter free, Epsom salt soak to pull any inflamation out and I think I may even run on it tonight. (elliptical at least) evondo - 2010-01-04 6:55 AM Ouch, hope ya get the rest of that splinter out... it can't make running feel very good that's for sure!!! loeber - 2010-01-03 9:49 PM I've been having a tender spot on the ball of my right foot for the last 2-3 days and I just figured it was a little bit of bruising from a pebble I had in my sock on NYE. It hadn't stopped me and didn't hurt that bad so I didn't really pay it much attention. This morning after my ride I decided to check it out a little more and found a little black dot... Splinter and it has been festering for the last three days... I decided to have a little swim and soften the skin to make removal a little easier. Sadly it also softened the splinter and now I have a half size splinter infecting the sole of my right foot.... yay... Hurts to put any weight on it. I will give it tonight to settle down and try again in the morning with a needle and tweezer... |

Expert 668![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lancaster, PA | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!I would take a nap. :D evondo - 2010-01-03 5:23 PMI really like this one for when I'm time crunched. You'll leave the trainer exhausted in no time at all... bzgl40 - 2010-01-04 4:15 PM 5 minute warm up, 20 minutes of intervals, 5 minute cool down = big puddles next to the bike. Just make it a quality session and the short time frame will feel so much longer. Change up the intevals. Maybe 5 minutes with 1 minute rest, or 30 secs effort, 30 secs rest (rest means easy spin). 1 minute on/1 minute off. 2 minute intevals. Endless possibilities of torture. KelliD - 2010-01-04 2:07 PM Question for the group..... If I happen to have 30 minutes of down time at home, worth it to get on the trainer just for 30 minutes OR should I wait until I can fit in a longer ride? |

Payson, AZ | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Well, I learnt a few things today. Well, two were simply reenforced. 1) swimming after two weeks off is hard, 2) I am still allergic (or something) to clorine, 3) I have A LOT to work on, 4) I was so dumb for being a chicken sh**. Best thing ever. I never did have to worry about hanging with the rest of them. We are all just swimming our own thing (well, there is a plan up on the board) and the coach is watching us and then stopping us individually to give tips or things to work on. And although the pool was full I didn't mind it like I do during lap swim cause everyone knows what they are doing. It was awesome. Anyone like me who just feels like they can't hang you need to at least try it. Nice thing about my Masters is the dude is like come try for free. No commitment. Guess he knows we'll all realize we were dumb for not just joinging in the first place. evondo - 2010-01-05 5:21 AM So.... There's a masters group that does morning workouts not too far from my house, but I'm still too chicken to join. When I go swim in the afternoons their workouts are still posted on the whiteboard, and they look hard! I don't think I can hang.![]() yeah, I feel I can't hang with them either but the coach is the life guard when I normally swim and he says I'll be fine. Pro 4824![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Trin2bfast - 2010-01-04 9:48 PM KK ~ LA Fitness at Barker & 290 has a pool. I think they all have pools (25m's & 4 lanes) I belong to that one, & I have belonged to the one at 529 & Barker. I like it. I think it's 30 a month. They have child care too. Thanks. The problem with LA Fitness and 24 Hour is they close their childcare when I need it. At the Y the childcare never closes. Right now just sucks because it is not going to get above 45 befroe 11am all week which is when the pool closes until 4pm which is when things get pretty busy at our house. And as annoyed as I am the other advantage with the Y is that I can take the big girls to PE, take the little one to childwatch and I have the freedom to run Longenbaugh or the outdoor track. Any other gym I will only have the treadmill and no outside option. So although LA or 24 Hour might solve my short term swim issues it would cause run issues I don't currently have. The Y has everything we need, their hours just make it more difficult. As it gets warmer they will have more available hours. |

Veteran 223![]() ![]() back of the pack | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!So, This morning I get up earliest of the year and I am all gung ho to go to the pool and try Eric's swim plan (modified for lard butts). Nothing but Emergency lighting in the pool complex. The University is testing it's "start up" systems. I went for a ride instead. New years resolutionists are jamming up the swim lanes after work (4-6 per lane yesterday as I walked by) so I was really looking forward to the early morning open space. I will swim tonight after work. |

I think I have to check in more frequently than once a day or else I get behind. I'm not going to bother posting 2009 totals, I totally sucked tracking my workouts there for a bit so it's not accurate. But seeing everyone post there's has me totally motivated to actually keep decent logs this year. I drove by my gym about 10 minutes ago on the way back to the office and the lot is already hopping. I have a feeling I'm going to need to shank someone to get a lane in the pool and a spin bike tonight. So Eric, did you ever see my post about posting the weekly swim workouts for us again? It was probably 20 pages back at this point. But basically the workout with the drills and whatnot like you did way back in our old group. A few others seemed interested too. I think I could definately use some more structured swim workouts as, at this point, I'm kinda doing the "jump in and swim for 45ish minutes or 1500 yds, whichever comes first" workout. While that's groovy and all, I feel like I'm probably missing out on an opportunity to get stronger/faster/whatnot. |

I've seen a couple different set ups. I usually just wear mine but I've seen people attach their watch to their water bottle so they can look up at the interval. I've also seen people keep a stop watch on the deck at the end of their lane but a waterproof sports watch is as easy as it's going to get. |

Extreme Veteran 380![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Houston | Subject: RE: Evondo's Group - CLOSED!Trin2bfast - 2010-01-04 10:41 PM Ken - I way Tsay that the majority of my runs are in Zones 3 & 4...with occasional visits to zone 5. Sustained efforts in Zone 5 are for race day efforts only... I have real hard time backing it down out of Z4, but for injury prevention & sustainability later, try to keep it in the Z3 (realistically). Ideally, Z2 -Z3, but sometimes that's more painful than a faster/harder effort. Too hard/fast too often will only result in injury...not faster race splits. Work in the endurance, adaptability & then comes the interval/speed work to increase overall speed. This could explain my knee issue. The good news is that the knee seems good after a few days. I will run tomorrow shorter distance (3-4 miles)and slower than my usual goal (zone 3). One more run this weekend (6-7 miles of zone 3) and then nothing until the 17th. I guess the hard work and the mistakes are all behind my now - almost time to leave it all on the course. |
