Plattyfoot--I agree with Lagnar, your rides will only go up from here (does that mean uphill? ) Lagnar--great to see you again, and super congrats on your Magic Mile! that sounds like a Galloway thing, is it? Mike--yay for wetsuits! Also if it feels like there's resistance in the shoulders, make sure you're pulling it on up very tight in the crotch so there's plenty of room in the torso . You know this--just a reminder. |

Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Hiya Manatees! As we move into racing season (for most of us), you'll no doubt be interested in discount gear having been a very poor triathlete for a long time, I am seriously into *cheap*. It wasn't until my HIM that I coughed up more than $20 for a pair of tri shorts, and I've never spent more than $30 on a tri suit (yes, a full SUIT). If you watch closeouts/sales on these sites, you'll probably find great bargains if you're not too fussy about models/colors. sportsbasement.com
That said, I did my first tri in running shorts that had a compression liner, and a (cotton!) sports bra. And I've seen all sorts of gear at triathlons, so really, whatever you have (if you can stand to cycle/run in it wet) will do. |

Slow and awkward, yet surprisingly fast. So I click the link expecting to find some big gray mammal in murky or clear water flipping around and what do I find? A real like not-so-big Mike swimming laps with lots of great feedback and comments. Very cool. Have you found it helpful to see yourself swim? I"ve had my husband video me at the lake we visit in the summer but you can't see the kick and breathing, etc. Would you recommend this? Nice job! |

[Did I just seriously date myself?] I'm not sure I'd call those orange-and-yellow camel-toe tri shorts "style and grace" but damn at $10 they were cheap and they lasted forever, lotta biking and running in those. I would recommend getting some yankz for your running shoes, even if just for T2. I didn't have them in my running shoes once and REALLY regretted it. Yankz are those stretchy shoelaces that you don't have to tie on and you can just slip your foot in your shoes, just in case someone didn't know. Like I didn't when I first started all this crazy tri stuff. TriAya - 2011-03-08 12:51 PM crystalashworth - 2011-03-09 3:28 AM Aaaack! T minus 12 days to Tri for the Cure! You'll be fine! Veteran 287 Pueblo, CO | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! Ash Wednesday & first day of lent. Gave up meat (not fish) and will try to improve myself by finally starting to make sure I get up EVERY day during lent before work to work out. Even rest days can include some yoga or stretching. So - 1st day today. Got up at 4am, drove the ~45 minutes to the pool to get the workout I missed yesterday (another story) - all ready to be there at 5 so I can get a lane, get done, and still get to work a little early. Note that the pool is ~2 minutes from work, so not really out of the way like it appears. Pool does not open until 5:30 and unable to get full hour in water before going to work - uggg. New activity for lent: PLAN BETTER. |

AAAH! - any bike riding has been done indoors to this point guess I better get outside!) -Wicking sports bra |

Awesome Crystal!! I love buying tri gear. It gets me so exited about the race season. Now that you have your stuff, DON'T FORGET TO ACTUALLY BRING THEM TO THE RACE! I had people tell me they drove to the race only to forget their helmet, or running shoes, ect. Pack all your stuff the night before and have it by the front door. And....don't forget to bring your bike. I remember my first triathlon. It was a blast. TriAya is right. Don't stress over the race, just have fun and take it all in. There will be plenty of first timers. Can't wait to hear about it. |

Maybe you can take it to a local bike shop. I'm sure they'll put it on for you. Probably would only take them a minute. Good luck. I'm exited!!! I have my first triathlon swim clinic this Sunday. I'm looking forward to getting some feedback on my swimming. |

Veteran 285 Austin | Subject: RE: MAD MANATEE Mentor Group (TriAya & lmscozz)--CLOSED! So this morning I went to the gym to do my run and planned to go for a swim. Right after I finished running, one of staff members came in inviting me to a foam rolling clinic (they had set it up for the tri training group, but only one person showed). I spent 1 1/2 hours learning how to use a foam roller and tennis ball ~ it was so wonderful (in a very painful way!). I've played around with a foam roller, but it was nice to learn how to use it better and the training was geared towards those training for triathlons. |

And thanks for the advice in your other post - about not forgetting things! I'm a total checklist person, so I will have a checklist printed and ready to go so that I don't forget anything (hopefully). I don't have a cool triathlon specific bag - just a regular old gym bag. Will that be OK? And good luck on your first swim clinic coming up - let me know how it goes! Edited by crystalashworth 2011-03-10 2:25 PM |

To help me get back in the groove I am going to a Tri expo on Saturday and participating in a clinic for first timers- should be interesting. They also have a zillion seminars but none of the topics cover the magical solution to my f&f(fatness and frustration) so am hoping I can at least score some cool swag - a girl can never have too many water botttles! |
