Some of us may still be on the course for a few more hours

Second 100 miler for me.  Even got the opportunity to practice changing a tire on the road.  Went smoothly, but slowly.  I guess I need to practice a little more.  I have a HIM next weekend, which I am doing as supported training, not racing.  And then 2 more long rides, and 2 more long runs.

I have started making my lists of what to take, and more importantly looking for good places to eat in the days before and after the race.  Seem like a lot of good options in The Woodlands.

Well I put up a century today in terrible outing. If this ride is any indication to the race I will be in serious trouble. It seams that all my riding on the trainer lulled me into a false confidence. I got my butt kicked today. hopefully it was a one time thing. It had better be with 6 weeks to go. Here is to hoping.

Sorry to sound gloomy... on a brighter note.

HAPPY EASTER EVERYONE.

The whole day is the celebration of making it to the start line after months and months of training. Just a nice long catered training day in perfect temps with no wind.... Here's to dreaming Cool

You summed up my ride. I am use to sweating like hanging out in a furnace on the trainer doing a long ride and changing shirts 5x, to getting out by Lake Michigan and my toes freezing and just having a chill over me for hours.

I know for myself and a client of mine, trainer miles do not = outdoor miles... unless they are done right. Well "right" for us.

For example, last year, I had her do all zone 2, base building work on the trainer (she's in Lake Placid BTW). By the time she got outside to ride, it was like she was starting from square one with her bike fitness. This year, we changed it up. She only gets the occasional "go easy" trainer ride. All the other trainer rides involve intervals, low cadence, standing on the pedals with low cadence, doing a hill training Spinervals DVD, and the IMLP DVD. Thus far, the couple of times she has made it outside to ride, her bike fitness seems to be pretty even between that and the trainer.

As for me, I keep a 17 mph average in HR zone 1 on the bike trainer. Uh yeah, not so outdoors. In face, it is really hard for me to get my HR into zone 2 on the bike trainer and to keep it there for more than a few minutes. Outside, I can easily go into zone 2, 3, and 4. Which shows me that the bike trainer (for me!) just doesn't give me the same kind of challenge that outdoor riding does.

I really started hitting it hard outdoors in March and I'm glad I did. I'm just now to the point where I feel like my bike fitness is where it needs to be IMTX.

Karen, I would pay ZERO attention to speed on a trainer.  It's about as useless a number as you can get. It's a completely made up garbage number since you're technically not moving.  It's just some goofy algorithm that bares no resemblance to outdoor numbers.  A Computrainer might be slightly more real world accurate but it's still bunk.

Power is the absolute only thing I care about on the trainer, followed by cadence at a distant second.  RPE, HR and cadence if you don't have a power meter.

Long weekend out of town put a halt to anything I could have done. Now the little one is running fever so my 90 miler for tomorrow is out the window but not a big deal, I will be able to get it done on Thur. I have had pretty crappy consistency in my training for this race and I know that I am under trained for sure but really still feel that I can do the distance. It will be SLOW, but I WILL get it done! I am starting to get nervous but am also getting really excited! Maybe I'm just nuts!

I am also in the boat where I am really trying to make my training not impact the kids and wife too much. Probably going to really try to make the next 6 weeks as easy on them as humanly possible.

I think I should have been more serious about losing weight before getting into my long weeks. I wanted to race close to 200, but damn if I am not serious enough about doing it. 212 is my number today. Maybe it is water weight! Yippee Maybe by my fall HIM I will get serious enough to be faster <---------- I am being a baby

Anyone using my athlete live? Do you know if they offer a discount on shipping if they are sent to the same address? I sent an email, but have not had a response yet. I used it last year and my wife enjoyed knowing where I was on the bike so she could move around.with the boys and not worry about missing me. Yes I am trying to get details lined up before I forget something

Oh trust me, I don't. I do pay attention to HR and cadence. And it is near impossible for me to get my HR up on a trainer.

Yeah, I don't have a power meter... TOO MUCH MONEY! My coach kept trying to get me to get one. I'm glad I didn't! I lost my job shortly thereafter. That money is savings went towards bills.

That is some great info about the trainer. I just started training on it this year. I will be better prepared in the future off seasons.

I have great news. I did a 52 mile ride today. My performance had improved significantly. I know I can only compare it with another century but I felt much better today. I am still off of where I want to be but Its a start in the right direction.

I used them last year as well and just ordered mine for this year. I usually just have them send it a week early so I know I have it before I leave town and can test it out. I searched over the weekend but wasnt able to find any discount codes for their product, and I think shipping is worked into the cost to rent the product. I dont remember having to pay extra last year and they include a self addressed envelope to send it back to them when you are done

So who's doing the IMTX bike course ride this Saturday? The group putting it on will be marking the course, which is great! I'll be there! Going to be a great race simulation day!

Would love to meet some of you!

Yeah, I'm doing the ride, then driving back to Dallas for 3.5 hours. I'm sure to be gross. Ha!

Send me a PM if you want to meet up at all! I'm coming in Friday afternoon.

Thanks! Karen

A new bike map is posted on the Ironman Texas website!  Still one loop and 95% of the route is the same as last year - just some slight changes.

Bike ON!!

Hi All,

seems that the courses are updated finally and luckily there are really only small changes:

http://ironmantexas.com/course/bike/

On first sight the bike elevation looks like a lot of up and down, but finally the diagram is only going from 100 to 450 ft - the total elevation is 1600ft - should be about 500m.

Swim & Run seems unchanged: @ swim: there is a comment about corrals for wetsuit / no wetsuit.

my american english isnt that good : what is meant by corral ? does it mean, that there will be 2 waves with different start times or just 2 different entries ?

raceday can come

greets, erwin

I'm so glad they posted it before the Got 112? ride this Saturday. Looks like they added Flintridge which is in The Woodlands, just a few miles from the finish. It's pretty much the only street in TW with "hills". It's a short stretch, nothing major.

Run map is different, but only slight change. They took out the new fast parkway on the bike. Nevermind- I only know it as fish creek and they list it as sendera ranch.

I see the elevation profile for the bike and run. Why is there not one for the swim??? I need to know! That seems like it would be just as important.

You need to send them a video of your swim and a breakdown of your "bob-to-sink" ratio per 100/yds - then they can tell you your elevation for the swim.
