Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() KansasMom - 2012-09-15 1:30 PM I loved my trail race. It was the most fun I have ever had in a race. 2nd in my age group (out of six women, I think). The water crossings were crazy. Two were ankle deep; a third was thigh deep; the last two were at or above my waist -- and long 30-40 meters. It was crazy. I had to walk up the more technical inclines -- real hiking/climbing. But I tried to run up the single track climbs -- when I could get around the person in front of me. Sometimes it just wasn't possible to pass. Race report after my nap. :-)
Sounds SOO awesome! Cant wait to read your RR - you're a STUD! waist deep water crossings then cingle track climbs in wet shoes - you're a STUD!! GOOD WORK! |

I feel the Manatees could publish a book of all our random mishaps and challenges. Hang in there Jo and find the humor in it MUPPET - indeed is of the Kermit the frog variety - we just use it as a comical derogatory term in the UK. Kind of like - you idiot, we would say you muppet. I'm having a bad day - took my bike to the track got attacked by giant swooping magpie and came home after ten minutes. Yes the bike has been outside only briefly. Yes I did unclip and stop twice without incident. Still needs work though. I need to find a carpark to practice where no boy racers are hooning around! Upshot of it all is - I am not a natural rider. I don't think I'll ever be confident to ride in aero so taking those bars off - managed HIM in normal positiion - and in the TdF they go all day with no aero bars! I have to face it so decision right now is - bulk of hours and T.I.T.S will be on the drainer working hard. Then at the weekend I will get out on the quiet roads for an hour or so Saturday and Sunday - just to keep the balance and road handling together, practicing drinking and eating etc. to avoid having to take hands off handlebars too much am investing in a camelpak - with that and two bottles I think I will make it through the IM bike section unless it's a scorching hot day - unlikely in March. I had lots of tears of frustration that a stupid 6 inch winged creature could cause me so much distress but it did so there you go.
![]() Not the magpie's fault I'm just emotionally all over the place today - and guess why - I forgot my Macca Power yesterday! Double dose today so hopefully tomorrow i'll feel more balanced. Was just a miserable day - felt all guilty that Artemis is an only child - ah get over it, she's spoilt rotten and has a great time! I'm going back out on that bike tomorrow down along the beach where the magpies don't play! You ARE a GREAT rider!! I just takes t.i.t.s - especially outside. You'll get there, i promise!! You're a great athlete and someday you'll look back and giggle about the adventures you're having on your bike right now. Keep getting out there - I promise you'll get more and more comfy! Keep it up - you ROCK! Aw thanks for that! Youve done IM you know how it can get you down feel so daunting and out of reach! That's how it is this week, other times it's not. n Thursday some guys at the pool were talking about doing the IM and Coach said Oh Jojo is doing it - they looked at me and said oh easy for you Jo you got the swim all wrapped up - I was chuffed. And when they heard I've done two marathons and a HIM they were like - pah so easy! And I felt good. Googled around a bit yesterday, going to book me some one on one sessions with a bike coach then join his/her group for weekend rides, that's what I need - confidence boosting. Today relaxing with my family - not fair for a 7 year old to see her mummy crying all day!!! |

![]() | ![]() I watched an XC meet for the first time today! It just so happened to be a mile from my house. There were 3 divisions. An open race, a collegiate invitational and then high school. Totally random, I ran into my high school track coach (as I think you know, I was a pole vaulter.) I updated Him on the past ten years etc. and told him I've been running this past year. He asked my marathon times and when I told him he said, "huh, as I recall SOMEONE told you to do XC in high school!" haha oops! I also got to witness this poor high school kid puking his azz off all the way through the finish shoot. Hahaha! |

Quick question, you changed from your bike shorts after the bike into tri shorts for the run, why tri shorts and not running shorts? I'm guessing you wanted compression, but am curious. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Morning Manatees! It's Monday here in Melbourne. great race report for IM - inspired all over again. I've taken steps to conquer my fear of the bike. Googled local bike coaches (gotta love living in the cycling capital of Australia!). I found one that offers private lessons as well as group rides. I think this will benefit me greatly - I will also contact a couple more, whoever comes back first wins the client! Didn't really train much at the weekend but I'm happy with where I am including T.I.T.S I'm just not happy with time on the road. TOTR doesn't have the same ring does it? DH has specialist appointment - needs to get fixed hate seeing him so uncomfortable all day and night - like constant indigestion and acid in his stomach. My mood is better today Manatees - analysed what it is that's bothering me (besides bike and DH!) and sorted it all out in my head and I'll be fine. As long as we are all healthy quite honestly nothing else matters. Architect came at the weekend along with our best friend and builder to sort out a minor house extension so we then spent a lot of the weekend at bathroom showrooms - love it! |

Quick question, you changed from your bike shorts after the bike into tri shorts for the run, why tri shorts and not running shorts? I'm guessing you wanted compression, but am curious. Here's what i was thinking: I have desoto 400 mile shorts that i wear during my long rides - fave shorts for riding long. I have cw-x compression shorts that i wear for HIM and shorter races (ride and run) but can't ride over 70 miles or so in them because there is NO padding. But I LOVE to run in them - they fit well, compression, no padding, they're shorter and (sad but true) cuter. They're more comfy for me to run long in than running shorts SO, I wore my 400 mile shorts for the bike - super happy, and quick changed into my cw-x shorts for the run. it took prob 12 seconds to make the change and I was happy on the bike and run.

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Really proud of my run today. 20+km--ran to my moms house to let her dog out for her, then ran home. A 2km hill (3.4% grade) at km 4, then a 2.5km hill (2.5% grade) at km 16. Left brain kept telling me it was ok to stop and walk, but I kept running. I was thinking about Tracy and her IM run and just kept going. The last km and a bit are the last km and a bit of my race in two weeks, so I just imagined the finish line I have a super fun day with my kidlets yesterday--took my niece and nephews to a country fair with a ferris wheel and everything. What a riot. Got some great video of my niece on the ferris wheel--she is 5 and she was just smiling from ear to ear. So fun. They got to dress up as animals and be in a 'parade' too, and try out stilts. Good times! |
