bradleyd3 - 2013-05-07 11:40 AM Samy - You cannot use my line for you against me....it's against the laws of nature. Lisa - We are rolling down to The Woodlands on 5/16. Check in, rest, throw up, try not to get hurt, throw up, and lastly.....try not to get hurt while throwing up. Yancy - Nervous....very freakin' nervous. Black Sabbath's "Iron Man" came on a local rock station on my way back from lunch and I, all kidding aside, got sweaty palms and felt a little light headed.

I know I have been fortunate with my good luck, but if you are prepared, they are not that hard.  There is a mental challenge during every run, but that's the only hurdle.

I guess the question is "are you prepared".  If you have stuck to 80% of your plan, then you are prepared.  I was WOEFULLY under prepared last go around and still can gut it out if you are not all that worried about time.

You will do great.  So will Lisa.

do you all think i could pull off an olympic distance race in one month even if i haven't swam in a month and will take a vacation next week during which i will do little (or no) training?

maybe i should just volunteer for this one...

Pull it off as in podium, or pull it off as in finishing the race?  I know Pitt will join in later with his own version of pull it off later.

Podium - all depends upon who is there in your 27 year old age group.   Finish - No problem.

finish and not be completely miserable.

also, 27 year age group, clever.

Easy peasy.

The gym that I did all of my swimming at closed like 5 weeks before my first HIM, so I had pretty much zero swimming in those last several weeks and I had as good of a swim as I think I could have had I kept training.  You should be totally fine.  Just get in the water early for a warm up and to let the body remember what to do, and then just roll with it.

So while pretending to help Meh, you posted this message with the intend to:

1) Let everyone you are a HIM finisher

2) Let everyone know you have done it more than once (or plan to) (i.e. my first HIM)

3) Poo-pooing on our accomplishments of racing/finishing an OLY

4) Give us horrible swimming advice (who rolls while swimming?)

Thanks a lot!

LOL!! (because I can in here nowLaughing

::hangs head in shame::

I've only ever done one HIM, and after having my but kicked by the one Oly that I've done, I would *never* poo-poo it.  All that being what it is, if you don't do rolls when you swim, you're missing all the fun!!  Even more fun when you just start spinning crazily in place, then stop and check out people's reactions.

You will do amazing! I knows it.
My only advice is to BE CAREFUL these last few days. Something dumb like not paying attention or tripping over something could be detrimental at this point. Last go around I tripped the day before the race on a "shake it out" run and fell on my shoulder. Sore shoulder most of the swim. Dumb.

Thanks. I mentioned last week that I needed bubble wrap....just for protection.

My shoulder is giving me issues right now. I swam last night and after the first 100m it was fine. It hurts like Cords face hurts now though.

I'm about 75% of where I should be to have the 'suck line' move further into the run. My only goal is to finish before 17 hours and to have fun.

Time to change the subject.  Tonight is a RAGBRAI training night.  That means we go ride a rail trail and stop on every bridge and drink a beer.  Then we turn around at some point and drink at all of the beer bridges again, and then go to the restaurant/bar and have tacos and irish nachos.  Burn very few calories and take in a lot of bad calories.  RAGBRAI training 101!!!!

2 things....

One...I don't even need a warm up. i guess the weaker swimmer would.

Two...you're doing Redman. That's not even an Ironman. It's the same distance, but you can't call yourself an Ironman unless you do a WTC/Ironman event. What do they say when you cross the finish line? James Ford....you are a finisher? James Ford....you are a 140.6'er?

I already got the tatt.....like jason terry before the Mavs Championship season. He got the trophy before he won it....and then won it that year. It's confidence, man.....with a little bit of cocky tossed in for good measure.

Have fun with your "It's just like an Ironman" race. I should drive up to OKC just to post signs with my finishing time on it.....sprinkled through-out the run course. And then, like in Happy Gilmore, pop out from random places and scream "you're going to miss it, ya jack-a$$" and then run off.

And when/if you finish, I'll ask to give the announcement........ James Ford.....You. Are. NOT. An. IRONMAN......
