Will you be at FL70.3 next month? I don't think you are racing, but are you jocking/cheering? IF you do, don't forget lonesome Jonny D who has no family members coming to cheer him on. It was also be GRRREEAAT if Trixie cam down as well, but that is a long way.

I am now looking at both of you with my puppy dog eyes

Hmmm, what are the dates? I need a training weekend. FL is nice, right?

It is nice, especially the weekend of april 17-18 (18th is race day). FUN IN THE SUN Cool

Sorry JBD. I have to travel to Virginia the week after. Can't to back to back trips.

My b/f will be doing a sprint in my town Saturday. But I plan to leave that afternoon to Orlando to watch FL70.3. A busy weekend Cool

Did you say BOYFRIEND??!!

I said b/f (insert interpretation here) Surprised

I did it.  I just registered for my first triathlon...Mr. Trophy Triathon (sprint), May 3rd, Jonesboro, Ark.  I am super excited, but wondering what wetsuit config. would be best.  I have lots of wetsuits at my disposal...my folks own a dive shop...but don't know if a shorty or long suit or farmer jane or what would be best.  Any ideas???  The water will only be about 60 degrees.  Also, my 500s run about 6:25 in the pool.  How much time will the open water and wetsuit add???

Did ya'll see Bicycling magazine this month???  It has an article about tris.

Not bad splits, at around 1:17, you should do pretty well coming out of the water (however the key is the bike and run as they are the longest).  Most of the time, the wetsuit helps due to buoyancy but you do have to get out of it after the swim.  Make sure that the wetsuit you get is made for swimming and not scuba diving as they will have potentially large differences in the ability to freestyle swim (shoulder/arm movement) vs. just go under water and kick.  The washtub effect of a tri start can be an eyeopening experience as you usually dont have that many people in an indoor pool lane.  This can cause some timing issues (also around the buoys).  Finally, make sure that you practice sighting by putting a water bottle at the end of the lane to practice looking for buoys and making sure that you have the ability to keep in a relatively straight line (always a potential time suck).

Have fun and good luck.

If your wetsuit selection is from a dive shop I would go with the farmer Jane sleveless suit. As a strong swimmer you will notice a resistance on your recovery with anything but a top of the line Triathlon wetsuit. I wear a sleeveless and love it in anything over the mid 50's temp.

Congrats on signing up!! You are going to have a blast!!! As for your times, my 2.4 mile pool swims were all around 53 minutes and my IMWI swim time was 53:17. Your time will probably be pretty close to your pool time. This should put you well in front of most of the field!!

Correct, and as a triathlete  am a good swimmer. As a swimmer I get beat by 12YO girls! I resemble that not too bright comment!!

What's everyone up to this weekend?!!

I am going to a Chi Running Seminar that my friend asked me to go with him to back in December.  Not sure if it is an exact fit for me, but I'll take any improvements available.  Also a 2 hr ride that day (somehow or another).

Post 4 pm tomorrow, I will do a 30 min time trial on the bike to see how my performance has changed over the past 2 months.  My 100 swim splits decreased by 7 seconds and that was 100 yd test vs 500 yd test.  So that is a good thing.

Next weekend is the first race of the weekend for me, John Tanner Sprint.  The water will be nipply but in a sprint I can justify a wetsuit.   The bike and run is a roller.  The cool thing is the group that sponsors the race actually has gone out and filmed the bike portion of each of their races so you can at least get a taste of what it is like.  No major climbs, a few 100 over .5 mile, 200 over 3 miles (not a climb as much as it is a steady uphill).  Should be a nice test.  My goal is to swim as usual, go super all out on the bike with nothing left to spare, and do whatever I feel like on the run.

I'm riding outside this weekend! Yippeee...suppose I should try at least a few outdoor rides before first tri in 2 weeks.

Good luck Trixie - BRING IT!

Oh guess what..my almost 8 old boy has decided he is going to try a Tri on May 10th. He's extremely competitive (mmm..where did that come from). I'm a little worried about the swim...I hope hanging on the ropes is allowed.

Have a great ride outside Theresa! That is very cool about your son doing a tri! My son is turning 9 next week, this will be his 4th year of triathlons. He's a bit on the competitive side as well. I don't know where that comes from!

Great ride today!! Started at 5:30 AM, left kids instructions and chores to do when they wake up. Ended up with almost 80 miles and 4500' of climbing in under 4 hrs!! MY LEGS ARE FRIED!!!! I felt very good for the brick afterward and my legs felt fresh but I definitely don't have my biking legs yet! I was actually a bit undernourished and paid for it the last 20 miles as my legs started cramping if I tried to go uphill in the saddle.

I STILL LOVE MY BIKE!!! I HATE HEADWINDS THOUGH!!!!

kids in tris are SOOOO cute!!

I ran fast this weekend.  Faster than I thought I could given that the bulk of my training is long and slow. I am SOOOO FREAKING EXCITED TO TRAIN FOR SPEED NEXT YEAR.  You have NO idea.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.

Hey Bob, one of the coaches at the practice tri dealio this weekend said that if I practiced the swim I would be one serious triathlete.....hmmm, where have a heard that before?? Maybe one day I'll believe one of you.
