erm... something came into mind... but fortunately (for me probably) it has gone right out again...

Really, it disappeared that fast?  Somehow I don't believe that.

erm... i'll let you know if it comes up again...

Oh my, it is just me or is hot in here again?

Hey PEEPS....to change the subject a bit...Lynne and I both reg'd for our Oly tri in June and got our motel and everything, so it's a done deal!  Any other locals (or even non-locals) interested in doing this race? Should be warmer there than here on the 'coast'.

Today didn't go as planned. I wanted to get to this pretty little village that is on the route of next week's local sportive ride (I missed out on entering this year), follow the route for a while & then take a short cut home. Backpack filled with two bananas & four brioche rolls, together with appropriate maps but no weights this time. As I was getting bike out of the garage at 0700 my mate turns up unexpectedly & says, "Fancy a ride up to the Cat & Fiddle?" It's a pub at the top of a seven mile long climb, with almost 1800 feet of ascent.
"OK. But you're taking me miles out of my way".
The higher we got the colder & snowyier it became. 36-37mins of climbing.

We parted at the top & I made my way down, freezing at 20+ mph for 15 Mins. Took shortest route to target village which involved very busy main roads. Not nice at all. Eventually got there after quite a few wrong turns & stopping to check maps. Hope it was worth it.

Just look at the size of those chimneys.

By this time I thought it was prudent to head for home. More horrible main roads until I got back to familiar ground.

Sorry CHR15 you shouldn't have stopped to fill your face today. Rock cakes! You greedy git.

Who asked for the encore? 85 miles in 5h15m (riding time, add another 45 mins. for peeing about looking at maps). Route profile :-

kns57 - 2008-03-24 1:03 AM http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/photos/photo-thumbnail... Here is the link to the album that has lots of pictures from todays ride. No castles, but lots of bird houses. Cows Tunnels Bridges It was an awesome ride.
Great photos Kendra, excellent. You don't half grow funny toadstools out there, all thin & long (Pic 13). They're not magic mushrooms are they? Whats this with beautifully paved cycle tracks? I'm green with envy. And that bridge. You are so lucky.

I will grab them myself like i did with week 1 (let us not mention week 2 for that never happened) so nothing for you to do at all!

Martin, that first picture looks like the last house at the end of the world! Gosh, I wish I had scenery and history like that to ride through.

Martin, between you and Chris it looks like you covered most of England's countryside!  Gorgeous scenery, thank you ALL for posting your pictures, it is so fun to see where everyone rides/lives etc.  Out here there are no old buildings....everything is pretty much shiny and new, or dates to about 1975 for that antique look.  My town only became a town in 1999...before that it was just outlying suburban homes with some stores.  Now it is outlying suburban homes with stores and a name.    You'd think they would have bike lanes on every road, but not yet....it's getting a bit better.....but we live outside Redmond (home of Microsoft) where they say they are the bicycle capital of the world....so there are at least some bike trails and lanes--if only the drivers would watch out for the bikers a bit more!!  Maybe when cell phones while driving becomes illegal in July things will be better.

Great riding everyone! I should hit my goal this week.  And I am also happy to house swap any of you--although I'd probably want to hang out and ride...so maybe I should say all of you are welcome to stay here and we can go riding, if you need a change of scenery and enjoy crazy kids (and mom).

Leslie

WOHOO!!! I rode! I rode! I even passed people! Gosh it was just beautiful down at the lake but cold on the way back to my car. I REALLY need to get a vest to keep the twins warm. Takes me forever to warm back up! Brrrr.     I did 2 loops of my favourite park which slows down my avg speed...no really it does :D  I was cruising at 17mph on the way back to the car the whole time. WOOT!  That's really good for me on my tank of a bike
