Subject: RE: Peep Jousters: The Original Peep WarriorsToday didn't go as planned. I wanted to get to this pretty little village that is on the route of next week's local sportive ride (I missed out on entering this year), follow the route for a while & then take a short cut home. Backpack filled with two bananas & four brioche rolls, together with appropriate maps but no weights this time. As I was getting bike out of the garage at 0700 my mate turns up unexpectedly & says, "Fancy a ride up to the Cat & Fiddle?" It's a pub at the top of a seven mile long climb, with almost 1800 feet of ascent. "OK. But you're taking me miles out of my way". The higher we got the colder & snowyier it became. 36-37mins of climbing.
We parted at the top & I made my way down, freezing at 20+ mph for 15 Mins. Took shortest route to target village which involved very busy main roads. Not nice at all. Eventually got there after quite a few wrong turns & stopping to check maps. Hope it was worth it.
Just look at the size of those chimneys.
By this time I thought it was prudent to head for home. More horrible main roads until I got back to familiar ground. Sorry CHR15 you shouldn't have stopped to fill your face today. Rock cakes! You greedy git. Who asked for the encore? 85 miles in 5h15m (riding time, add another 45 mins. for peeing about looking at maps). Route profile :-
