did 1.5 mile swim yesterday
just finished the tybee half marathon this morning, felt really good. Had rain for the first 6-7 miles. It was a blast. My time was exactly were i was expecting it to be. Everything is going pretty smoothly right now.

@jillian_o - how did your half go?

Not a PR, but not terrible either, I ran a 1:55:12.That rain in the first half was rough, and wet LOL.The winds didn't help either, but it was still a great event, the crowd and volunteers were great.Even with the bad weather I had fun.

Unfortunately no, my IT bands (both of them this time) started flaring up around mile 2, I ignored it and pushed through the pain, after I crossed the line and got my medal and my husband found me, I practically fell into his arms, and then limped back to the car. Now I'm limping all over the house, it hurts to move my knees at all, and I'm foam rolling every few hours. I am going to see my primary care doc about it this week, see if there is anything she can do to help me. I'm registered for a sprint triathlon on March 5th, but the run is only 3.1 miles, and swimming and cycling doesn't hurt.

Week one of the plan is done today and I think it went ok. I'm doing the Fink competitive plan and I've discovered that so far the hardest part will be juggling the kids activities and time management. I missed one swim workout because weather closed the school and a bike ride because at some point I must have promised my boys I'd take them skiing. Forgot about that so it took priority over the evening trainer ride. Did manage to sneak both weekend workouts and may try to get to the pool before the Steeler's game tonight.

Hope that every everybody else on the Fink plan had a good first week!

Peter--good job balancing the family and your training.  I too am following the 30 Week Intermediate Plan and anticipate I will have to miss a workout here or there due to family and work obligations.  I've explained to my wife that I can't miss any weekend workouts.  Other than that, it is up to me to fit in the weekly workouts.

I'm going to head out here soon to get the run in. Thus far, I have completed all workouts only cutting both swims a bit short.  I have a swim background, so I am not too terribly concerned about the swim. But I haven't done much swimming since August, and I didn't want to get too sore the first week.

How is everyone else following the Be IronFit plan doing?

I'm going to adapt an Ironfit Competitive plan.  I've been in marathon training for Cowtown on February 27, with a few rides and swims mixed in.  I'm pretty nervous about planning out the training season.

Just a thought...for those of you just starting your plan.
Clearly juggling schedules with other obligations will be a challenge. Don't be afraid to make adjustments, and forgive yourself when you are forced to do as much. You will be ok.
Peace,

Whew... I have been out of the zone for the last two weeks.  I caught some sort of bronchial infection that took the wind out of my sails.  I haven't done anything for the last two weeks.  I just finished an antibiotic which was called a "Tri-pak".  I hope this is a good omen.  It's good to be back.  I'll be working on my base before my "Huddle-Frey" training plan starts in a month.  C'mon warm weather.

Good luck to the Iron-Fit people who just started their training programs.

It is nice to read/hear about how each of you are progressing.

I started conditioning Jan 1 with touch and go Base building W/Os; a run here, swim there, cycle train thru a movie, etc.  Now I am up to consistently doing5 - 6 hours a week.  I have been concentrating more on weight training and the SBR work has been low heart rate, technique driven stuff.  By the end of Mar I plan to be up to 8 trng hours a week with SBR only W/Os.  Then I kick off my 20 wk IM plan.

It seems like those mid-week W/Os are the toughest to get in.  I find myself doing double headers on my rest day to make up lost time.  All in all though; I am feeling stronger each week with no residual pain.  So no complaints.

Also, if all goes well I will get my new bike this week.  I got a sweet deal on a Trek Speed Concept 7.  I wanted the Aero bar extensions switch out so hopefully the FedEx guy delivers them to my LBS tomorrow.  Apparently Profile Design had some inventory issues recently???? Got my fingers crossed though.

Well, I just made it through my first work weekend of the training plan. These are the hardest parts for me because I work Fri/Sat/Sun 5pm-5am every other weekend, and weekends are always the longest workouts. Obviously that makes it especially tough time-wise to fit in my workouts, shower/stretch/ice/foam roll, make it to work on time, and somehow keep my nutrition and sleep at healthy levels. I am pretty well wiped out and about to get in bed for the day, just thought I would catch up with the forum before I crashed.

I also wanted to whine a bit about the suckiness of ice! Central Indiana is still covered in a couple inches of ice (though I think it softened up a bit last night) and it has relegated me to the treadmill for the past week. Treadmills suck. Okay, done whining... thanks.

Getting over a cold/bronchitis myself!! yuck...hopefully I can do a run today ;-). I am actually looking forward to my long bike rides on the weekend...what I am not looking forward are the 5am pool swims before I go to work! literally my husband has to throw me out of bed at 430am and remind me how bad I will feel if I stay in bed..lol...oh boy...here I go again...

Happy training to all and good weather to come for those up north!

Some one gave me some good advice once:  never "make up" workouts.  If you have a workout on the schedule and you can't get to it due to feeling sick or just life issues, simply continue with your week of workouts as planned.  "Making up" workouts is a good way to become overtrained and/or injured.  I struggle with this because I feel "better" when I know I've done all my workouts.  But I still think it's good advice!

Good luck everyone on your training!

Lots of theories have been thrown around... lots of threads on this site about it as well. Some ideas on why:

Heat/humidity is the big one
Time trial start = less than 17hrs to finish for most
Swim in Ohio River
6-week turnaround to Kona
Lack of community support in the past
Lack of Mike Reiley in the past

I know I'm a little late answering this, but to add to what has already been stated:

Regarding the time trial start, some people want the "experience" of the mass start.  Others want a wetsuit legal swim.  And Louisville is not seen as a "destination" city.  But, from what I hear, the finish at Louisville is among the best in Ironman.

SuperK - thanks for the tip.

I read your posts inquiring as to why IMLO has not filled up yet and it reminded me of some statistics I read last year just before I signed up for this IM.  There was many topics analyzed on the website but one that sutuck out for me was "which IM is the hardest?"  WARNING: if you are on the fence as to whether or not to "pull the trigger" for IMLO I suggest you sign up before reading!!!!  Tongue out  I guess the idea here is like any statistics involving very subjective data, you just have to take it in stride that not everything can be well represented in a graph (at least, that is what I am telling myself).

I hope you enjoy the link.
