Crystal, about the water bottle thing.  Hmm, does it look like it needs to be screwed on?  Maybe you can take it to a local bike shop.  I'm sure they'll put it on for you.  Probably would only take them a minute.  Good luck.

I'm exited!!!  I have my first triathlon swim clinic this Sunday.  I'm looking forward to getting some feedback on my swimming.

And thanks for the advice in your other post - about not forgetting things!  I'm a total checklist person, so I will have a checklist printed and ready to go so that I don't forget anything (hopefully).  I don't have a cool triathlon specific bag - just a regular old gym bag.  Will that be OK?

Crystal,

I've looked at the fancy bags and can't justify the cost, so I have a standard bag that works great.  Happens to have two shoe compartments and some wet areas but it cost around $20 and not $100.  I've also seen people use a 5 gallon bucket for their transition area - after setting-up their transition, the bucket can be used to sit on during transition.  Me - I just plop on the ground, but I thught that was a neat idea.

Also - I have a yoga mat for my transition area (folded in half).  I took a sharpie and marked on it where things go to help a "brainless" transition.  You can color code them so a quick look shows you have all the "Red" items (for bike), or replaced all the "red" items (when going for a run).  I've found that I will forget to put on sunglasses or take off my cycling gloves during brick training sessions and found that this helped keep me focused.  I used newspaper to get a good lay-out and all items identified (practiced during brick trainings) - then transferred that to the mat.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!! and remember - HAVE FUN WITH IT.

Thanks John and Claire - crappy old gym bag it is!!

I just picked up my last few things today - Body Glide and Yankz.  And I also picked up my bike from the REI bike shop after getting the basic tune.  Think I'm going to take it for a spin after I get home from work tonight and see how things are working.   AAAHHH - 9 days!!  AAHHHHH!!

I've found that the secret to the yanks is don't tighten them too much.  Since I started using mine, I have kept my shoes looser than usual and they don't get as sore.  It should be comfortable and relatively easy to slip your shoe on.

Others have different experience?

So I checked out the Tri Expo and went to a clinic- it was all pretty good. They had a series of 10 minute presentations all day long with all types of nutritionists, doctors, athletes, coaches- the three mini sessions I sat in on were very info packed but being such a BT nerd, mostly nothing that hasnt been discussed on here several times.

The expo had so many clubs, sports and nutrition booths- including one from Beginer Triathlete! I was so tickled- I did about two tours of the floor, and then made sure I came back to say hi to whomever was manning the booth. That somebody turned out to be Marmadaddy himself!Laughing I met him and drcherrybomb - that really made my day and was worth my trekking out there!

And oh yes I got two VERY sleek cool  and sexy waterbottles from Equinox, and lots of random samples of stuff- drinks, lip balm, lotion, stickers, swim caps- like doing a tri, except without the exercise LOLTongue out

It was okay. . It was my first time back on open road in awhile and it was scary. Hehe. Plus I need to figure out how best to position my seat because areas were sore that shouldn't be. Yanti gave me some pointers to try out. So I'll have to see how that goes.

Had my first swim clinic today.  I think it went well.  The instuctor started out with the basics such as breathing and drills on your side to work on breathing.  She also had us do drills that were side kicking on one side than rotating to the other side (six beat side rotate drill?).  It gave me a good feel for rotating side to side.  I haven't done that before.  This will be great for when I put it all together next week.  I always thought I didn't rotate well when doing free style.  No wonder my arms felt sore...they were doing all the work. LOL.

I'm exited to get back in the water to practice some more.

You'll get a lot of pointers in that swim clinic, Clare. Very cool.

Hey, I don't remember who it was, but someone Mike? John? had a yoga mat they use for transition and marked the spots on it for gear. Any chance you have a photo of that you could post? I think I might make up our extra yoga mat into my new transition mat. Thanks!

Here you go - worked perfect for my first tri. The bike is the lighter color and run is black. I listed the bike stuff in order to reflect the stacking order. Shoes on the bottom of stack, then gloves, etc. I was able to just grab the next item and put it on without worry about one item being in the way (shirt on after chest belt). Special area for my cycling gloves after the ride - forgot to remove them several times during brick training. "Arms" was for arm warmers - 60f the morning of the tri. They are great for keeping you warm while you dry-off after the swim but can be pulled off and stored in your jersey pocket once you warm up. Thanks to my training, I no longer need a knee brace.

Revelation on cruise that has led me to focus on doing another marathon.  Its on my blog.  I can't handle the pressure of tri training and just don't want to make the time to balance it in. It doesn't mean that much to me. Thank you to everyone for all of the support and encouragement.   I will be around to cheer all of you on.  Good luck all!   Keep up the great work!

Good for you Jo! DEfinitely stick around and continue to be part of this....running is part of triathlon!

Thanks so much John for your photo of the mat. What a great idea. You could make those up with fancier type and market them, you know. Maybe even an outline of shoes, belt, glasses, etc.

I had a day of firsts on Sunday.  My first bike ride over 30 miles (just barely over)  and as I looked down to check the distance as I pulled into my driveway and unclipped on the right, oh yes I then toppled over to my left.  My first fall.  To be honest, it was a relief to get it over with.  No one to witness, no injuries, what more could a girl ask for?

Oh, I plan on sticking around and stalking all of you.  I'll still be crosstraining on my bike and swimming.  I am just not feeling the motivation for the triathlon.  It was a substitute because I wasn't going to do any more marathons.  Running is my love and my goals.  Swimming and biking will help me reach those goals.

Yes ... don't leave us!! Glad you're sticking around and came to an epiphany on what you want. Lotta fellow marathoners here for good company in this group of Manatees ... interestingly, enough, one of my all-time favorite mostest belovedest (and one of the highest posters, and one of the most highly regarded BTers) is not a triathlete, but primarily a runner (marathoner).

Crap!  I'm going to fall at some point??    j/k  I've fallen off a dirtbike a couple times, so I guess I can fall off my bike too - except on the dirtbike I fall into dirt - I don't necessarily want to fall on concrete/asphalt.  hehee

AND - Congrats on the 30 Miler!  I'm not even sure how I'll do with the 8 miles this weekend!  Kinda freaking out actually.

And for those experiencing snow - this is one of those times I'm glad I live in Phoenix.  Nice and balmy 80's this week.
