Extreme Veteran 688 | Subject: RE: Ironman Florida : Official Thread I used Ironman bike services last year to remove bike from box, tune up, etc. And I used them to put bike back in box and they shipped it back to me. I notice this year there is a new company TBT bike tech. Does anyone know if they will be doing the same? I would really like to ship my bike back after I am done so I don't have to deal with this. |

TBT is a fully assembled service. The only thing you remove is pedals and they'll even do this for you on the back end. I literally walked my bike over to TBT tent after IMTX, handed it to them, threw cash in the tip jar and walked away. So, no box. My experience was great. Keep in mind, you may be without your bike for a week+ before you get to Florida depending on when the drop off date is a your bike shop. Edited by fattyfatfat 2012-09-25 9:26 PM |

I went to the welcome dinner in Lake Placid last year and enjoyed it. If your wife doesn't dig hanging out with triathletes I probablly wouldn't buy her a ticket. My wife and kids stayed behind. |

I second the fact if the wife ain't into the "yeah us" stuff it's a drag... I only go to these if my wife passes on the race (more often lately unless going to overseas races). She calls them "Love fest for the athletes" which is close to the truth. the food isn't that great, there is little to no entreatment... with that said you almost have to take her to the first one for both your happiness and her satisfaction of knowing there is really no reason to fret over missing the next one. Also the group here sat together last year (the wife wasn't there so I got to go) and it was nice seeing the folks on the page, I look forward to seeing 'em again. |

Any idea if they do this? |

The first 30 minutes or so was cool. I went because its supposed to be "mandatory" I WANTED to hear the stuff about the race that is supposedly SO important that this meeting is MANDATORY. The room as crowded without enough places for everyone to sit, the food was marginal and its was noisey. I don't do crowds of edgey people well and I don't do background white noise well and we had someone with us who was deaf with a cochlear inplant and it was like torture for her so we left afte 90 minutes of drivel and never heard any of the "mandatory race info" anyway. After that first dreadful experience I have not gone back. I would not drag someone who is not into tris to it. |

I don't think it is worth $30, but if the alternative is for her to sit in the room by herself, bring her along. It all depends on how into all this stuff she is...does she want to watch videos and hear inspirational stories or would she prefer some R&R time with a book, then a trip to the hot tub and a chick flick. |

If so do you plan on swimming with them under your wetsuit? I wore them last year on the run, but will not be doing so this year. I thought about wearing them under my wetsuit, but was a little hesitant because I never wore them for 11+ hours before and was a little worried I'd get bothered with them on for that long. This year, they have been strictly a recovery tool. Edited by LSUfan4444 2012-09-26 9:00 AM |
