smithe68 - 2012-05-16 8:37 AM So the local tri shop posted up that they saw 64 somewhere in the lake yesterday.  I am going to assume it's in the area of the race.  The United States Geological Survey (USGS) checks the temp at a different spot, so this could be very likely with the temps we have had the last few days.  Here's hoping!

That would be FABULOUS!!!!!!!!!

The USGS site is like 8 feet down at the mouth of the river so it's going to be colder. The fitness fanatics temp was taken at sanders beach on the other side of Tubs Hill.

Thanks for the extra info, I didn't know where they got it from, that's much better.

i'll be there with a South Florida crew probably swimming in the afternoon on Thursday and Fri and Sat morning.  guessing 8 AM or so on Friday and Saturday (since I won't be able to sleep).  Thursday - after we are checked in, etc.

A little hint for those of you coming in from out of town on the practice swims.  The best time to schedule those is in the morning.  The water's calmer then and not nearly as many boats out.  The afternoons the wind usually comes up a bit and the boat traffic can be pretty crazy which can give you some rather large boat wakes to swim through.  The other option for better water is later (7-8 o'clock) in the evening; the wind usually dies down and there may not be as many boats out.  Just some thoughts for you while you're planning things out.

That is on going to happen. by race day the temp is going to drop a little then come back up a few time. Just saying.

Last year it peaked at 73.4, in late August.  Water temps are usually in the high 70's in July and August, at best, don't think there will be any issues this year, heck there is still snow to be seen in the mountains around the area.

Smithe68 - As a local, do you know how close the temperature at Lake Hayden follows the temperature of Coeur d'Alene?  I haven't been able to find any statistics.

Thanks

I am sorry, I do not.  I searched a bit and could find nothing on it either.  It's a lot smaller, so I could make the assumption it is warmer but, it would be just that.  Sent an email to a friend who lives in Hayden to see if he knows.

Later in the year Hayden Lake is probably 6-8 degrees warmer than CDA.  At this time of year though, my semi-educated guess is that it's maybe 2-3 degrees different.

Uhg, first time riding the day after running, not sure how I am going to survive the 85 miles I have planned today.  Ran a half marathon (+ running home) yesterday, I probably shouldn't have pushed like I did, guess in just over an hour, I will see how my legs really feel.

I did the same...18 mile run Friday followed by 100 mile bike/6 mile run brick yesterday. It was the first time I've tried long training days back to back. Thankfully, my running legs cooperated. Having to start earlier and earlier to avoid the GA heat. Happy training!

The day after a run I hate biking at first.  But at the same time I don't start out too hard for a long bike.  So it usually works out well by the time I'm done.  Good luck to you!

It went really well today, all things considered, headwind the entire way out and pretty much a side wind for most of the way back.  Still managed a solid ride that I can be happy with on super tired legs.  Wont ever do it again though, running a very hard half (for me that means a 1:31.48) the day before, plus an extra few home was a bit much.
