ALL of my vacations for the past 5 years have either been a race, or on someone else's schedule. I just want one where I can relax, not race, not answer to anyone, do my own thing. Even when I go somewhere with girlfriends, they have to plan out tourist attractions or excursions I'm not interested in.

I sound like an old crotchety woman, but I've never been on a "JUST FOR ME" warm weather vacation...

Let me know if you book into/out of Ft Lauderdale. You can crash at my place and save hotel money, or I can recommend a cool little hotel 1/2 block from the beach that a friend owns...

Then do it!  I think it's perfectly safe and fun.  if you get the sit down dinners, you end up sharing table anyway so you can chat up the table mates (or not).  No one should hassle you on the boat.  if you do a beach/warm weather trip, you may get hassled on the beaches, but not more than if you would just go to a local beach.

I think if you lay the ground rules down early, traveling with friends is fine.  I would say "this is what I plan to do, if anyone wants to join"...  Or just plan to meet up for dinner or after party but do your own thing during the day.

I woldn't plan a bunch of excursions or make that many plans with friends (unless I wanted to, of course).

If they know that you just want to chill but are willing to meet up for dinners or the occasional beach excursion, then I think it could be REALLY fun.

Well, we've done nothing but sit on the couch and watch movies all day... Moneyball, Stake Land (though that one got turned off pretty quickly due to stupidity), Sherlock Holmes and finally YellowBrickRoad (an indie horror flick which was ok, but the ending seriously sucked).

Now have to remember that we have to be up at 6:30 tomorrow morning to go and do the Mud Man 12km run through the army training grounds... that should be fun... right?

I'm the only dipshmyte in the world who doesn't see that my MO is to totally overdo it, all the time. In fact, I still think I'm really lazy and just milking it. However, I've been so grievously and painfully wrong so many times before that, just for fun, this time, I'm actually going to try to do what every single other person, incuding medical professionals, recommend.

Thanks, I love the weekends.  We are having a party tonight with about 40 people.  My wife is running around like mad and I am like "no big deal."  Compared to work, it just doesn't seem stressful.  My biggest stress today is fitting in a swim between cleaning up the house and grilling tomato's for the bruschetta for tonight's party.

No, you are not milking it at all.  Look, a fundamental part of training is recovery; don't beleive me, ask around. Wink   You need recovery right now and in good time will require hard training to achive your goals.  Give yourslef some more time to recover and train your a** off when the time is right.

PARTY! I love parties. Lived in a gorgeous house with a friend right off Venice beach; big backyard, perfect for BBQing. I think we threw five goodbye parties for me before I left for Indonesia

Yep, you're exactly right. Plus, I bet the house is already clean and people at the party will just make a mess anyway, so no worries.

Come on now, I'm a reasonable person ... I'm willing to entertain the notion that when every single other person holds an opinion well backed up by scientific research, that maybe, just maybe, I might be wrong.

That is the whole point of sleep, actually. To take the energy used for living and apply it to regenerative/restorative/anabolic/synthetic (synthesis) processes that will allow you to go on living.

You should come back to the States for a visit.  You could stay with BT friends and we could have party after party.  I bet we could keep it going for six months or more touring the US.

That was actually the plan (though more like 6 weeks) when I was going to do Beach to Battleship in the States!

Aaaah, sigh ... (did you see my last comment last page? Enquiring minds want to know) bunch of BTers and tri folk used to come to those parties, too. One BTer couldn't make it but she sent her aunt and uncle instead. It was awesome. They brought the yummiest Italian macaroni salad ever.

Grilled shrimp in olive oil, fruit kabobs, meat and cheese with crackers, champaign, wine, and soda for the kids.

It is a progressive party and we are the appetizer house.  Not sure what is on tap for main course and desserts.
