Lots of first time buyers look at the Desert Eagle 0.50 in the movies and think "that's the gun I want".

I looked into ammo for that.  If you don't mine throwing $2.00 a round down range every time you pull the trigger, go for it.  That's an expensive hobby.  20 rounds is as much as a round of golf.

But they do make the DE in a .357.  That is the one I have always wanted.

Yeah, I would do that.  I shot the .44.  Didn't like it.  I mean it was cool and all, but not something I would do all the time.

I'm a wimp, but .45 is as about as big as I like to go.  The .44 was too loud, violent, and my hand was tingly/numb after jsut a couple rounds.  I needed to put it down and rest for a second.

I looked down the bore of a 0.50 and had to laugh.  It looks like a cannon/morter it's so big.  But it would be intimidating to look at that pointed at you.

Big Appa - 2012-10-30 2:18 PM TAN should I get a shot gun or a .357? I'm thinking a shot gun first but man do I love shooting the Ruger .357.

I have both. Colt King Cobra .357 fits my hand better than any of the rugers I have tried.  Rugars center of balance is in it's barrell more than the Colt's and it tends to cause me to shoot low.

It depends on what it's primary purpose is.  I would say if you want to teach your kids to shoot I would go with the .357 first and teach them to shoot with .38s.  The shotgun is a bit much for kids even with lighter rounds and it's enough like shooting a rifle that it translates well when the get older.

Nice! I'm a demon with a Colt .357 with a 6" barrel. They also fit my hand nicely. The 9mm plastic Glock is a video game controller. Point and pray with no accuracy. Somehow, the revolver is so much more controllable and accurate.

My .44 can get a little tiring to shoot after a while but with the design of the Annaconda it fits my hand well enough that the recoil isn't too bad.

I have a Colt 1991 .45 acp.  It's such a beautiful pistola.  I love shooting that thing.  Agree about the 44 mag.

My Grandfather had an arsenal in his basement.  I shot a Remington 1885 .45-70.  That thing almost took-off my shoulder.  I kept wincing until he laughed and said "That's why you're supposed to use a pad."

Most fun weapon to shoot though has to be the AT-4...

Get a Saiga.

I'm also just as happy as can be shooting a Glock 9mm or .45.  Probably a 9mm more if you want to shoot for a long time.  .45 and .357 can get tireing.

I still contimplete getting purchasing the Glock and a .22 conversion kit so I can plink away for hours for just pennies a round.

Just get a ruger .22 they are not that expensive.

I was never a fan of the early glocks, too light a round and some performence issues.  I do believe they have come a long way since then but I still tend to see the 9mm as a spray and pray round.

Ya I'm not a big fan of the Glocks but with my CZ I can hit what I'm aiming at even with a quick fire. The last time I took it out I did 30 rounds in a 2.5" group from 15 yards and that was with almost no pause when shooting.

In my hands, there's no such thing as a spray and pray weapon...

Really, you didn't like the glock?  Isn't that what cops and fed agents carry?  Or is that the Sig?

I read that a .22LR is the preferred weapon of drug dealers because it's quiet, it'll get through the skull and rattle-around, and it's so cheap.

I think the .44-40 was the most popular round in the old west because you could use one round for both weapons... I can't remember where I saw that though...

As an EMT I worked on a guy who had been shot in the chest with a .22 LR.  It shredded him and I ended up wearing some of his lungs and his lunch up my arm.  It was like trying to do CPR on a table his chest was so filled with blood.

And I for one did not like the glock.

One gun I do miss and I am sorry I sold was an old Bersa .380 auto.  Nice little gun, good punching power and highly concealble.

well, 9mm is predomenantly used.  And Glock is probably the most used brand/model.

But I think it's more because they have to.  little chance for over penetration of the 9mm round.  I'm sure they would PREFER something with a bit more punch, but there is too much danger for colateral damage.

I wonder if they could use the .45?  The real manstopper.  It's such a slow round, I don't think there is much concern for over penetration either.  Hmmm,  I should ask my cop friends.

Honestly it is in part due to public perception that a .45 is too much round.  It is what J.Q. Public sees as a Dirty Harry round.  .357 still has a better 1 shot drop performance though.

ETA: At least that was one of the reasons given when I did firearms training with NM state police.

Well, I don't own any guns.  Mostly cuz the wife don't like them...

BUT, I might just like to get a tried and true 1911 for home defense and hiking/camping.

I only say home defense assuming it had to be a pistol.  Of COURSE I would prefer a solid pump action shotgun for true HD.

Maybe a decent 9mm for CC.

Rugar .22 for plinking.

And I just love AR-15's.

Now if I was going to be a borderline nut.  There is the Barret 50 cal for long range and a whole pluthera of guns I would like.  The Kriss sub machine gun is filthy cool.

Don't even get me started on collectables.  Authentic Tommy Gun, M1 Gerand, Old AK.  Shoot, even a NEW AK would be fun to have...

Haha that's hilarious. You should've shot him! That would've made the story even more awesome.

I try really hard not to shoot people unless they really need/deserve it.

Oh and btw Tony I never actually pointed it at him, thanks.

Big Appa - 2012-10-30 11:18 AM TAN should I get a shot gun or a .357? I'm thinking a shot gun first but man do I love shooting the Ruger .357.

Hah! Great minds think alike!

In my hands, there's no such thing as a spray and pray weapon...

Really, you didn't like the glock?  Isn't that what cops and fed agents carry?  Or is that the Sig?

I read that a .22LR is the preferred weapon of drug dealers because it's quiet, it'll get through the skull and rattle-around, and it's so cheap.

well, 9mm is predomenantly used.

I think .357 is standard issue for park rangers.  Need more power and out in the wild, less potential for loss of human life if mistakes/misses are made.

Huh.  So eggs explode when you've forgotten them on the stove.

I should really just stay out of the kitchen.
