So I thought I should share it with y'all. Focus.

Also, I just saw the pix from the Live.Love.Tri. Apparently I am back to my pre-O'side weight. ugh Yell. I guess I need to pick another 70.3.

Fachmie Focus!  Wait, is that redundant?

I went to a bike and truck safety fair this morning.

A portion of my commuting route is shared with the Port of Seattle trucking route. Needless to say it is very dangerous and I curse the truck drivers on the daily. As I am sure they curse me.

Anyway, truck drivers were there to educate us and us them. They had ride alongs and also gave us the ability to hop in the seat of one of the semis where they had cones set out to indicate visibility.

Wow. A whole new perspective. Which is what it's all about. I think doing more stuff like this is an amazing way for us all to coexist. Very cool.

Plus, if you knew of all the truck drivers who have gotten their licenses from schools who are really just license factories, eg, they don't make the driver's actually learn the rules, you'd be even more careful around trucks.  Or if you knew the number of trucks that are operating with really bad brakes and or really bald tires it would be enough to keep you off the road.  But since you don't know these things, you don't have to worry about it

You can't pick wrong here. Both are win situations.

I thought they kind of went hand in hand.

In case you don't know, Lauren Fleshman parted ways with Nike and signed with Oiselle. She also is a co-founder of picky bars and is starting up a competitive running club in Bend this year. Anyway, her blog kicks azz: http://asklaurenfleshman.com/ for entertainment value AND thoughtful content in general.

I'm a blog junkie...

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Jesus that makes a hell of a lot more sense.

Oh yeah, and the plot REALLY thickens. Either way, I won't be doing the original "A" race as I JUST realized the club cross country nationals are Dec 15 which is probably why he suggested the other race. (we got cut off before we finished our conversation)

It's cool. You don't have to call me Jesus. I hear he's busy driving a race car right now, anyway.

Well, so I'm extra confuzzled now ... if you won't be doing the original A race anyway, doesn't that actually thin the plot / simplify things?

I have the worst headache. Should I take some GOOD drugs for it? I can't sleep. But I hate how they dry me out.

Or should I stay up and BT, which is making it worse (I shouldn't be surfing/reading a lot anyway, but you know me ... stupid is as stupid does ... ) and, like, change my avatar or something?

Maybe get back to a million unanswered inspires?

so hypothetically, if one were to buy a tri bike, how long should I give myself before "tri season" to get used to riding it?

Doooo EEEEEET! As for how long... it didn't take me long to get used to aero. If you're comfortable on a bike anyway it won't take long to switch. But why wait? Cool

The longer and more's the better, 9mos is good, a year's better, mostly it's an issue of handling and having the slightly different specific strength to hold the position with optimal power output at X distance (race). However, if you've had a great bike fitting prior and then a good bike positioning on the specific bike after, it shouldn't take very long for you to get used to it. A few rides, 1 long ride.

I use mine on the trainer during the winter. Not because we have weather so bad I can't get outside, it's New Mexico after all, but because the days are so short it's difficult to ride during daylight hours.

Helps build those aero muscles.

It's very individual. I would have been fine racing from a handling perspective within a coupe rides, but I ride a lot so it was less of an adjustment. Someone less familiar is probably going to take longer. It took more time than that to be able to stay in the position longer though.

ETA: Oh, the type of race matters too. More technical and more crowded would mean more familiarity.
