The bodyweight ratio doesn't fix it. Would you say it is 5 to 1 less? I wouldn't. That's what I'm saying. Doesn't matter, though. I'm of the age that we were told constantly "we can do what you can do - we want the exact same treatment". They got it and didn't like it, I guess, so now it's back to "we're different and need to be treated as such." Pick a message and stick with it! |

The girls were treated the same way. Girls weigh less so the concept is the same. It's a bodyweight exercise.chadtower - 2008-05-08 10:00 AM 5 pushups? Geez. Our coaches used to make us drop and give them 25 if they just saw us in the hallway between classes. Ummmmm, and you're a BOY. Der. =) I'd like to agree.... but I can't. Girls' upper body strength isn't the same as boys'. The bodyweight ratio doesn't fix it. Yup. Yet, generally, lower body ratios are about the same between girls and boys. Kinda funny. i knew a guy once who was flabbergasted that i cannot do pullups. |

(come back of course!) Every once in a while on a prefect morning (like today), I want to jump on the motorcyle or get in the car and just drive into the desert.... Maybe stop at a small town diner and get some breakfast, listen to some tunes and see the country.... I never want to do that. I think about going for a run on a day like that. But not in the desert. I do not <3 the desert. Oh, the desert is BEAUTIFUL my love.... I have been to my fair share of remote locations in this country (had the BEST summer job EVER...). There is so much beauty everywhere. The forest, the planes of the midwest, mtns, and the desert...... I've tried to lof it. I just can't. At least yet. Try arches natl. park in Utah and the "Ave. of the Saints". I will take your breath away and bring tear to your eye. It coud EVEN leave Ryna speachless, but that's asking a lot..... |

Physical differences aren't things you can really argue. i expect that people will accept that i'm not strong enough to do things guys can. At the same time, i'm better at math and science than most guys, and i fully expect that i should not be treated differently in the technical realm simply because i have breasts and a vagina. |

Expert 3974 MA | Subject: RE: TAN 24: TANgerine Speedo.. The message was loud and consistent. That's what the message was to the boys at that time - "the girls can do what you can do, you are now required to treat them as such, and you are now required to give them every opportunity". We were even given lectures on this stuff specifically in health class. Apparently every female teacher I had, every female coach I had, and most of the girls I grew up with were so dumb we can't even talk about them. I know times have changed but calling them that dumb isn't cool. |

I agree with Schwammy..... The "we can do what you can do - we want the exact same treatment". They got it and didn't like it, I guess, so now it's back to "we're different and need to be treated as such." Pick a message and stick with it!" argument is silly when it comes to pushups or other acts of physical stregth. Women being asked to be treated as equals as human beings - in day to day life is expected and should be done. But to say they should be forced to do as many pushups as men to be "equal"? Silly talk. I can't even do more than 20 pushups on a good day. So does that mean I should be treated on less than an equal basis of someone who could do 200? Get paid less, be treated as "weaker?" I think not.... |

Well, that would have been about the time when i wanted to be a catholic priest when i grew up and then found out i couldn't be one 'cause i'm a girl. There have always been divisions between what males and females can do. There always will be. There's an awful lot of overlap, though, that many people do not want to acknowledge. |

Sensei Sin City | Subject: RE: TAN 24: TANgerine Speedo.. BTW, all the desert talk got me thinking..... I don't like to tell people that I'm racing cuz you get all the silly "good lucks" and crapola like that. I do it for me, not to show off... BUT, I'm heading to Utah for a race tomorrow and staying to visit Mt. Zion park. It is AMAZING there. Beautiful drives and hikes. Staying at a hotel next to a river. I'm SO stoked. I almost don't want to race. It's a shorty, so I should be done in just over a couple hours and then I can enjoy the weekend! WOOT!!!!!! |
