Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED velcromom - 2009-02-03 1:23 AM We'll just top off a wonderful month or so......I was in an auto accident today, with my 15 year old with me. We're both bumped and bruised, but no damage it appears. My first partially-fault accident EVER, I'm more sore now, and horrified that my son's hurting. Kind of afraid to leave the house tomorrow! If things come in 3s, I'm so done, I'm working on the next guy's 3! Thanks to all of the wonderful inspires, they truly live up to their names. For the life of me, I can't figure out how to reply to each of your blogs. Once in a while it works, but not usually. Any ideas? To answer most of your questions here - I'm pretty sore, even before the tussle with the minivan. But, I think I'm breaking through some barriers. And my hubby's nose for setting up events on Saturday & Sunday! I'm thinking I may need a coach that doesn't expect anything in return!! The 'big' appt for my mom is today. Keep thinking your thoughts and praying your prayersl I think I'll try to run first, much safer than driving! Once word of this mishap gets out, I wonder if all the other parents in the carpool are going to want to boot me?!? Anyone want to take a shift with seven (7!) 15-17 year old boys who, shall we say, stink a bit after their various practices?! Come on! Live life! Linda I'm glad you and your son are OK. I can imagine you are a little shaken up about this - on top of everything else going on in your life. But no, seven 15-17 year old boys have never figured in any of my life plans. Stay safe. |

Have fun at the lesson! I had PT this morning and I just felt like I was dragging my sorry body around. Not sore, just tired. Not enough sleep+trudging in the snow, I guess? Well, whatever it is, tonight is going to be taking it easy on the legs so I can push hard on the bike tomorrow which will be sort of a 'dress rehearsal' for a 15k indoor time trial I'm doing on Sunday. I've never done a TT and have no idea what I'm in for! Anyone who has done an indoor TT - what should I expect? Have any tips for what I should keep in mind? I don't know the first thing about them and just planning to show up and pedal like I'm in spin class. I'm a little scared I'll be blown away by everyone else, but hey-- it'll be some quality time with the new bike |

Master 2621 Almaden Valley, San Jose, California | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Good luck on the TT - Not only can I not give you any pointers, I can't imagine riding my bike indoors! I'll be waiting to hear details. Today I'm going on a short, easy recovery ride. (it's GORGEOUS outside!) Not only is my body pooping out on me, but I have to wait for a plumber to show somewhere between 9-2! Good Wednesday, all! Linda |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED TT try to not go all out to start and build into your pace. It is easier to hit the wall at the end as you get to stop. I do a lot of TT and they hurt plenty but are fun to do none the less. If you use a HRM or bike computer you can use those for pacing help. For me I know 164 is my max HR on the bike so I'd start in 150s and gradually kick it up a bit more until I was at my limit. Also key is to warm up well. Be sure to do some hard 90-120" intervals before you start ideally 3 with 3-4 minutes rest as then your legs will be ready to go hard when you start as I recall the TTs are pretty short and you need to be ready to hit it hard to start. |

Champion 5312 Calgary | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED k, checking in for the day. Did some yoga last night to stretch out the legs. Got 8 hours last night. Went for a run. Hit the hills for 30 minutes, felt okay, not super strong but got some heavy breathing in. Then went to finish off with a 30 minute jog. 3 times during the jog I just had to stop and walk for 30 seconds. I wasnt breathing hard, or running fast, and my legs were not that tired, just, had to walk. Happened yesterday too. So, I don't know. My plan was to run Thursday and Friday, which will be killer because I have Karate Thursday and swimming/cycling/stregnth Friday night, rest Saturday, run long sunday, then taper next week with 3 5ks (maybe a 5k 10k 5k thing would be better), take saturday and sunday off and race on Monday. Think I will stick with the plan, I am fairly confident that 7 days will be enough to taper. And, I can't imagine an hour of jogging on Thursday and Friday will make much difference, and I kinda like doing it, so I am going to do it. Thanks for listening, suppose we will find out how it all works out.... |

Seeing the allegist tomorow, can't wait. I'm going nuts trying to get the asthma flare under control. 2x daily 2 puffs with the maintenance inhaler, 2 puffs 4x daily on the rescue, nasal spray 2x daily....Neti pot 2x daily....zytec in the morning with Singulai at night. Why is my peakflow low and am I coughing like a maniac? |

I happen to have an Orbea road bike...love her...sweet bike. I have the bottom of the line carbon road bike w/ultegra parts. She is a '08 and got her 11/07. Be prepared to be very humbled at TT. Around here it is all men and only a fast women or two. I average 21.5-22 mph and I come in last unless a newbie or a kids shows up. |

Im guessing that means you have no issues with me looking at an Orbea then? Like this: (there is a pink option but Im leaning towards white at the moment... chances are by the time i have the cash I will have changed my mind again)
Yeah I have no issues with being last in a TT if I do it sometime... the group that do it are really relaxed nad operate on a policy that its open to anyone who shows up... so I think I will be ok.. |

Expert 1773 San Gabriel Valley, California | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Checking in. Long day. I went to Crossfit at 6am this morning and it was the usual killer workout. I had a short bike ride, about six miles I think, this afternoon. I haven't uploaded it yet from my Garmin so I don't know for sure. And then I went and signed up for a series of three swimming lessons. I had my first lesson tonight. The teacher was a teenage boy. Talk about making one feel old. Anyway, it went fine. He gave me some pointers on technique and then we did backstroke and breaststroke. Next week butterfly. Tomorrow is my usual day to swim and I think I will joint the workout and see how it goes. I feel so frivolous posting this. I went to a memorial service this afternoon and then to hear about KOM Kathy's brother just makes all this silly "training" seem so shallow and narcissistic. |

Champion 26509 Sydney | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Hiya, Well I think Im just about to hit back training after the race... I needed the week out from worrying about my plan/schedule mentally more than physically in some ways. I will not be getting a workout on Saturday (or probably today - Friday my time) so I then have a 3 week build + 1 week taper for the next race which is a 400m/10K/2.5K Based on the feedback you've all given me so far Im thinking i will do something like this: - Run/walk a mininmum of 3 times per week (a bit of consistency should go a long way even if its only 20 minutes some days) - Swim 2-3 times per week mostly helping others out with their stuff (low pressure since this is clearly my strength) - Ride 3-4 times per week focusing on doing some race specific work: BCR/hills/pace intervals rather than lots of LSD - Strength 2 per week as normal Does this sound reasonable? Am I missing anything? Any ideas on the specifics I need on the bike? Cat |
