I did a run this morning; temperatures were pretty mild.

How do I make running enjoyable more than tolerable again?

I wish there was a good answer for that...but for me, it's the closest thing to absolute freedom...wait, maybe that's a bike...oops...now i"m self doubting...lol.  How about, running is the closest thing to being a wild animal, and biking is the closest thing to being a wild animal on a bike?    I dunno, I hated it for a long time, then loved it, then got injured and missed it - now that I can finally do a few miles I'm in love again.

There have been times when I sorta enjoyed it (at least I enjoyed the constant improvement) but each time I get injured and try to come back, the joy gets sucked back out.

I'm struggling with the same thing.  I think it's going to take getting to a similar fitness level to where I stopped last year before surgery.  I really enjoyed the 10k I did with my friend a few weeks ago.  We ran the whole thing together, chatted, and just had fun.  Plus, she had such a great time that she wants to run a half with me in the fall.  Seeing her joy really helped me find it again.  It was pretty amazing.

But, for me to feel good about it, I really feel like I'm going to have to get into marathon training and build my confidence.  Right now, I just feel lazy and slow and fat.  I have to remind myself what I've been through over the past 6 months.  Be kind to yourself.

Are you using the Rich Text editor (lots of boxes on top)?  Usually, I find the picture and right click on it.  Then select "copy image location".  Then, click on the picture of the tree in the toolbar for the post and post in the link in the box.  That should get it in your post.

Thanks Jen!  I don't have my camera at home so this isn't MY bike.... but it is EXACTLY like it (other than I had a few things put on it).  The other one that I had at home to "test" drive was a blue one as in the other pic - but was a bit  too big for me - so ended up going with this one.

So here's a question y'all may or may not be able to answer.  Some of you know that I just bought a new bike.  I went to a good store (Nicole you'll know which one.)  The staff worked to make sure it fit me just right.  I tried it out and really felt good on it.  I really feel good during each ride.  But after I just hurt all over.  I'm thinking that it's just the fibromyalgia and that my body will adjust in time.  That's a typical fibro problem.  Any change, even a good one causes pain till the body gets used to it.  So my question is have any of you had this problem, aching or pain while adjusting to a new bike or should I just assume that it's the fibro?

In general, I think it's more common that people have aches and pains while riding and then have to fit and fiddle with the bike to get things to feel right. It's great that you feel so good on your bike right from the start.

After a ride, particularly when starting out and building up the fitness and distance it's common to feel a bit achy, even wiped out. It's your body telling you that you pushed your limits. Only you know how your body usually reacts to exercise, exertion, and change. You need to listen to what your body is saying to you and weight it against what you've asked of it and how the fibro normally limits you. It's always best to build up slowly as building up too quickly usually results in injury.

It sounds like you may be going through a normal progression of fitness/endurance training. Don't be afraid to take it slow and be sure to give your body adequate rest. Keep up the great work!

I went on a relatively easy bike ride yesterday and I'm all achy.  My arms in particular - I think this means I'm leaning and using my upper body too much?  But it's all muscular aches and not pain aches, so I like it.

I think it's pretty normal to be a little sore at first.  I know I always feel sore the first few rides outside of the season.  Give yourself some time.

I need some collective wisdom.

For yesterday's ride I mounted some new pedals on the tri bike (pedals I just got from REI with my dividend). I ride using spd mountain pedals and the new pedals are Shimano A600 one sided spd pedals, sorta a compromise between road pedals and mtb pedals. Anyway, by 20 miles into my 30 mile ride I was aching in my legs in ways that were new to me. Then during this morning's run my Achilles started acting up again. I'm wondering if it could all be because of the pedal. What do you think?

Seems entirely likely.  It might have shortened or lengthened the length your leg travels around the crank, so you might have to adjust your seat height.  Also, the amount of float in the pedal might not be enough (or too much) and your knees are in a weird spot.

How do I increase my swimming speed?  I feel so slow in the water, and my general improvement doesn't seem to matter as I think I've been maintaining 2:00 for 100 yards.  What to do?

Have you ever had a stroke analysis done? Underwater video is very illuminating, especially if you have a pro to critique it and offer suggestions for changes. Beyond that, swim and swim some more. What kinds of sets and distances are you doing?

I've jsut had our tri coach take a look at my stoke - she said everything looked good except I don't have high elbows... maybe I will get an underwater video done.  And, I know i should be doing them, but no drills.....I just swim....and keep swimming....
