Just got back from a 3-mile lake swim.  It's only taken a few weeks and I'm used to swimming without a wetsuit.  I actually prefer it.

Swim Question: When you make a u-turn past the island and start swimming down river, what do you use to sight off?  The shore the left or perhaps the bridges?

I agree with using the bridges to sight off of, but you can use the buoys also.

I plan to find someone swimming my pace and sight off of their swim cap.  Just hope they are good at sighting, otherwise we may both end up in the Gulf.

So what type goggle are people using. Tinited or clear. I need to buy a new pair for the race. I normally use  TYR tracer metalize but if i need to get the TYR Clear or lightly tinited I will.

I always use TYR Nest Pro tinted (smoke?) including IM Louisville last year.

Ah, bouys!! After 20+ triathlons I sincerely forgot about buoys.  How embarrasing

ANOTHER SWIM QUESTION:  When standing in line for the Swim Start, are there garbage cans anywhere near by?  I want to take in some fluids while waiting, possibly a gel, and want somewhere to throwout my wrapper and scrap water bottle.  Thanks

OK I am thinking about renting wheels for the race.

Zipp 404 front and 808 rear for $110

I have had a good amount of people tell me that they would make a good difference over the 112 miles.

I have basic Ritchey wheels with Gatorskins now. Any advice would be great.

Thanks

Gatorskins are slow.  I use them for training, and when I take them off and throw on my Michelin Pro3's, the speed difference is noticeable.  However, Michelin Pro3 and other race tires are not as flat-resistant as gatorskins.

New Zipps will roll much faster and smoother than stock wheels.  For that price, no question *I* would go with the Zipps.

Do the early birds in line bring their own sharpie? Do they not need to fill any bottles for the bike?

Schweeet.

*Anyone thinking of bringing an extra water bottle, or two, for the swim line, and - well - if you gotta pee just go while standing in line and conveniently wash your body with water at the same time?  Am I the only person thinking of doing something like this?

I will be right there with you if that is the case. I heard stories about people lining up at 2am to be in the front of the line. I will be in transition when it opens at 4:45 but am in no hurry to wait in line for 2 hours.

Getting in line at 5:30 should put you right in the middle (roughly).  I think that is about the time I got in line last year and I was in the water at 7:17.

Hello:

It appears as though the IMLOU forum is just as busy as last year, and I see some familiar 'faces'. I am excited for all of you, especially if this is your first IM or first IMLOU for that matter. It is a great venue and you will have a great time!

May the current be swift (after you turn of course), the wind be at your back, and the temperatures be mild. I hope you all achieve your goals.

Go grab your Slugger because you are next at bat on the U.S. Ironman circuit!

Peace,

~Tri Sam

That gave me the same butterflies I used to get taking practice swings while on deck. Thanks for the well wishes and the baseball reference.

Speaking of Louisville Slugger Museum, what else that's super-close by does any recommend for young children/ family friendly local touring?

Is the waterfront park a good place for my wife to hang out with a 6-yr-old and 8-yr-old while I ride and run?  Little HELP please
