Hehe. It's a decent story - very sad. The show is good to go see. And a lot of the music is good; but the main songs have just been SOOOOO overdone and it's a bit to grandiose for it's own good. I'm not the hugest Lloyd Weber fan anyway. Did you see the movie? SOOOOO bad! The guy who played Raoul was good (and he's really HOT without the fruity wig) - everyone else was crap.

Hour long chemistry training webinar over.  Now in the full throws of lunch induced coma.

ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

I can sing something really high to keep you awake

So you will get this.

The wife and I met in Choir in College.  So we have done our fair share of singing at wedding, right?  Anyway, this one person, a Sorority sister of the wife, wanted us to sing "All I Ask of You" from Phantom.

One problem.  I was (at the time) a Bari-Bass and she was a full blown Alto.  Guess what happened.  I got to take the high note.  Yep.  I hit it.  Barely.  Talk about a stretch.  Woof.  Over time, interestingly enough, I've become more of a Bari-tenor.  I think that might have been when I figured out how to use my upper range.

Hey. Pavarotti. You gonna swim tonight? (for the 10th time)

Obviously someone isn't reading all of TAN because I answered a few pages back.  Dipstick.

I'm bailing because of SoR on Saturday, I'm taking today as a recovery day and swiming in Racine tomorrow.

Did anybody ever see ALW's Starlight Express? It was so so so so OMG awful that it made it MAYBE a week in Chicago. I was one of the unfortunate souls who suffered through it.

Yeah.  Tell me about it.

We've done some of the most typical wedding songs.

The Rose - I friggen hate that song

Longer Than - she had to do it acapella.  I couldn't look at her for fear of making her bust out laughing.

All I ask of you - Like I said above

Amazing Grace - WTF?  Seriously?  Ok.

Haven't had to sing at a wedding in a very, VERY long time.  Thank goodness.

I've sung at two weddings. First one I sang "The Water is Wide" - sort of a Celtic-y type song. And the other wedding, I sang a couple of pieces - contemporary Christian music, but they weren't too bad and it worked nicely in the scheme of things.

Emmy Rossum was HAWT. I mean applaud at the end of the movie because you still can't stand up hawt.

But yeah, the Phantom they cast was completely incompetent. It was like they couldn't get Banderas so they just got someone who looks like him.

Nope. But I've seen Cats. Cats is pretty bad. In fact, I was watching some PBS special a couple of weeks ago, and they showed a scene from Cats and I realized JUST how ridiculous the show is - grown men in full spandex and cat make-up doing wicked awesome 80's dance moves to synthesizer orchestrations singing along with a click track?!?! Yikes!

Not sure, the first couple of lyrics are:

The water is wide - I cannot get o'er

And neither have I wings to fly

Give me a boat that will carry two

And both shall row, my love and I.

I need a large print of her lying on her back in that boat right after the Phantom jumps onto land and she's still lying there staring up at him. I think I watched that scene 5000 times for that. One of the hottest still frames ever produced. The dress is splayed just right so you can't see all the way in but goddam does it look like the way to go.

Starlight Express - think Thomas the Tank Engine meets Tony Hawk on Roller Blades on Acid.

Cats has the "family appeal" though - no plot, lots of flashing lights, dancing animals and one power ballad at the end. Which is why it lasted for 20-something years, outdoing A Chorus Line as longest-running show. And my male dancer friends will be employed for the rest of their lives doing the National Tours.
