I am really just looking for a way to NOT freak out I honestly have no idea how to really read that elevation chart. It looks a little scary but what it means in reality I have no idea. I just hope all the hills I'm training on will be sufficient.

Is anyone doing the Cardinal Harbor Half in July? (This may have already been discussed but I'm late to the party..) I can't decide but I feel like having the chance to ride the course before Aug 30 may help in calming my nerves. Just not sure I can make the trek. Okay, the fairly short 6 hour drive but still.

I'm somewhat familiar with the types of hills around Atlanta, so if that's where you are training, then yeah, you are probably good to go.  If you want to compare what you're riding on with this, then you could go to mapmyride.com, plot one of your typical rides, and compare.

The elevation chart isn't nearly as scary as it might look -- remember that the scales are WAY different on the vertical and horizontal axes.  Pay attention to the "1%" and "2%" and not to the actual slope of the curves.

Just signed up!!!!

To volunteer that is . . .

I'll be helping marshal the swim start from 5-10am.  Let me know if any of you need a good kick in the pants / slap in the face to calm the nerves before you dive in.

Seriously, though, best of luck to you all!  Train safe!

That is awesome! Thank You!

Help me out here. Is admission to the banquets not included in the $550 it cost me to register??? I can understand needing extra tickets for non-racers but is my ticket not included in my entry fee?

Is it $30 to each dinner?  So $30 to the pre-race banquet and $30 to the award banquet?  I have never gone to either in CDA, so just wondering.  Also, what do they do at these dinners?  What is the point?

Both are free for athletes.  The pre-race dinner is a good time to carb-load and meet other BTers.  Here's a shot of a bunch of BTers after the pre-race dinner.

So now I am really confused.  As a participant, do I need to purchase a ticket to the welcome dinner?  I am staying at the Galt house with my Mom the first night in town (thurs).  I would like to take her to the dinner.  Should I only buy a ticket for her or for the both of us??

Just buy one ticket for her.  You will get in with your race wrist band.

I have been doing my long rides mostly in Cartersville and my short midweek ride at Stone Mountain. Not sure if you are familiar with either of these places but they are all hills. Thanks for the confidence Also, a very good tip of comparing routes. I hadn't thought of that.

I just did the taylorsville half, and it was awsome. I learned alot about my training plan. Needless to say I am on track and nutrition is working well. That was my longest race and it felt great. Look forward to the longer training and the big race.

I am wanting to do an ironman in the next couple years. Is it hard to get into this race? Is it the type of thing you need to be there to register?

And also how much is registration?

This is one of the easier races to get into (for a variety of reasons). It may become harder to get into as it becomes more popular. This year on line registration was open for for many weeks before the race was full. Typically, the on line registration for next years race will open up one or two days after completion of this years race race. I think the cost was $550 but I registered so long ago I don't remember for sure.

Convince?  It is more like "I am sorry, I signed up for an Ironman".

All of them! Why don't you get her into the sport too? Then she will try to "convince" you to let her race in an Ironman and you can say "anything for you baby...hey I have an idea why don't we do it together?"

Hey, Mt. Everest summit would cost you $40,000+ and they don't even get a finisher's medal!
