Oh....NOOOOoooooooo!!!! That sucks! If the course is long enough for you to walk one or both of the events, do that! There is one guy who is doing CDA IM who may be walking (well I am sure there will be a lot more people then him but) because of an injury. You can practice your swim/T1, Bike/T2 and walk the run. Hope that heals up quickly enough for you to participate in your Oly! Those were my thoughts exactly. I think I actually did the NNNNOOOOOooooo part out loud. I'm not going to risk anything Sunday. I know myself and I'm just stupid enough that if my knee felt pretty loose on the bike I would try to run on it, and if I had a good swim/bike time I would run hard. Either going to just DNS or maybe volunteer. Only a "B" race anyway but dang it! |

Mentor Group - CLOSED Dream Chaser - 2011-06-20 8:33 AM For me, this was the frustrating part about the ortho I went to...he had no interest in discussing my running history, volume, habits, etc. That's why I'm making an appointment to a different ortho. Is kinesiotaping the same as McConnell taping? That was on my prescription for PT. I'll have a look-see. Good advice. I just took off four days completely for the first time in FOREVER. My body was wigging out from the lack of exercise and I felt like a slug. I made the mistake of going to the hotel gym this morning to spin a bit on the upright bike...couldn't get a correct position and actually felt a little pain in the knee (so I did stop!!!). Going back to the pool tomorrow and maybe some water running in the deep end...that was a recommendation I read in Runners World that seemed to help last week before I ran on the treadmill like an idiot. |

I was hoping no one would discover my secret to running speed work! I look forward to hearing those words for the first time. It will be quite the journey to get there. I know the days ahead are going to go fast. My Dad gets into town on Thursday and I am taking Friday off work. |

Expert 640 Sun Prairie, WI | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED I'm on vacation and just stopping in for a quick hello. Mike, sorry to hear about the knee! As Bobby said ice is your friend. The fish oil will also help, it acts as a natural anti inflamatory. I think the Olympic is still within your reach. A couple of light weeks can do wonders to heal some nagging aches and pains. I would give it a go and see how you feel. You are basically maintaining fitness at this point so 2 low volume weeks won't impact you to much.
Rene, you're almost there! Looking forward to seeing your race progress and results.
I actually got in a solid bike ride today, local A group ride, got my behind handed to me for 32 miles. I am coming back for more on Thursday for 50 miles. Should be fun.

Rene - I am only graced with a fast thought twice a month but you can both of my July ones for your race!! We're all rooting for you and can't wait to hear about the day. I just lurk around your log but it is a wonderful read and never fails to pick me up (and, at times, make me feel like a slug) when I read it. Rene you're well prepared to kick some serious tail! Best of luck and we'll all be rooting for you! It will be a long day with ups and downs along the way. During the down periods think about the picture of your kids and that sign and it will help keep you moving. I have no doubt you are going to have a great race. |

I have a question for everyone/anyone - what do you know about Intermittent Fasting? I just completed this 24hr fast. Started 7pm last nite until after CF workout tonite. It was hard to get thru tonites WOD but 2 hrs later now I feel kinda groovy! Alert, strong...strange. I am looking at CrossFit Endurance - a variation on CrossFit for Endurance athletes. |

Expert 4923 Middle River, Maryland | Subject: RE: Dream Chaser's 'Set a Goal and Capture it!' Mentor Group - CLOSED So I went to the expo/check-in today...and left the timing chip there. I didn't want to risk me doing something really stupid under the buzz of competition and adrenaline, so I just DNS'd right then and there. T-shirt is pretty cool though. So, one would think I would be getting better at swimming, but I've got this nagging thing in my left shoulder where about 750-1000 yards into a swim workout I get sharp pain which radiates down through my left arm. Needless to say I stop swimming at that point. So I'm doing about 1K yards a workout right now. I'm hoping this will get better so I can work on my limiter while the knee heals. I'm getting an MRI next week for the final diagnosis...my regular ortho thinks it's a torn meniscus so I'm thinking running is out for while. I tried biking today but the knee is killing me now. Looks like it might about time to shut it down and take my medicine. Was a really nice ride today though...almost 19 mph and I wasn't even hammering it because of the knee. Funny how training 8-10 hours a week doesn't cause an injury, but carrying heavy stuff down three flights of stairs does. I must be getting OLD. Really looking forward to racing vicariously through you guys this summer!!! |

Doctors do get these diagnosis' wrong (Just ask the Mets!).You've had a great year of training and hopefully the Tri Gods are on your side IF you do get bad news from your MRI, are there any swimming events in your area that you can train towards? Who knows, maybe you'll be able to turn your limiter into your strength. Good luck this week and positive thoughts heading your way!!!!
