Hi! I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend! We are HOME this weekend (no last minute trips to see the inlaws. And The Hubby is town. Yay!), and the weather is absolutely beautiful. It's sunny, blue skies, fluffy white clouds, snow capped mountains, light breeze, in the 60's kinda day. Perfection. To add to the perfection, we just bought a couple used mountain bikes off a tour guide/outdoor adventure shop in Park City. Got a good deal, and the bikes will go to the kids. I just had to try one out, in the cul-de-sac, and for some reason I thought I'd try my hand at going back UP onto the curb. I had ridden DOWN over it and my 9 year old does it all the time, so what could be so difficult, right? Right? Guess what happened? Yep. I endo-ed. No helmet. Heard some pretty good pops and cracks in my back as I contorted and landed, but I managed to NOT hit my head, and not injure myself. Some people need to learn how to ride a bike, I guess! What I did today was more of a high speed yoga. LOL.

Um... you know you kind of have to pull up on the handlebars to go up on the sidewalk, right?

I'm glad you aren't hurt.

AMY!! What were you doing without a helmet?!! Glad you weren't hurt.

You need to look back in the thread a bit. I put an edict out banning Ghoulies from being sick or hurting themselves!

Yes Ma'am!

I got up to work out but decided to work for an hour or so, then I'll run when the sun decides to come up.

My car is a manual transmission, I forgot to put it in gear this morning in the parking lot, it drifted. Fortunately it went backward, AND the parking lot is pretty empty in the morning. WHEW!

It's in gear now and I put the emergency brake on.

Good Morning Ghoulies!

I was out of town at my convention from Thursday to Sunday.  Work was crazy in the days before trying to fit everyone in and get my stuff ready, etc.  Got home late yesterday afternoon pretty tired.  This week will be nuts too.  Funny how one has to work so hard before and after to get a few days away!

Amy!  Wear a helmet!  Glad that you weren't hurt! and glad that you had such a pretty weekend.

Ann, Hope your daughter gets to really feeling better soon!  And glad that your car incident was not any worse.

Robin, sounds like you are doing pretty good on that getting up early to work out.  Good for you! Thanks for the inspires!

Kendra, it sounds like your staff is getting really low!  Pretty bad in light of the fact that they didn't want to cut the hours of being open.  Hope someone balances that out soon!

My convention was good and I enjoyed it.  But seven  3 hour classes from Thursday afternoon thru Sunday morning and then back into a full work schedule today has taken it's toll.  I am TIRED!!  And no sleeping in until this Saturday.  It's gonna be a looong week.

When I went to start my car to come home yesterday, the battery was dead.  Spent about almost an hour trying to get it going again.  Forgot that the security system would prevent it from running after the battery was down.  Took a while to figure it all out.  Fortunately, a couple of friends stayed and helped me out!  The battery went dead a few weeks ago at home, so I took a different car to work that day and let my husband deal with the dead battery.  I am thinking that we might need a new battery.  A new car would be even better but that's not going to happen!

Morning Dee. It is amazing how much work piles up when you have to go away for a bit.

I was getting worried, I was going to grab Ann and the SAR dogs and come and find you.

We can still go. We can cause a distraction so she can get a nap!

Hello Ghoulies!  It if Friday afternoon.  I did get a couple of runs in yesterday and this morning.  Got to get ready for Key West.

Had a great bookclub meeting last night.  I made saurkraut Soup with beer.    It was a hit.

I'm ready for a weekend off from work.  Oh, did I tell you guys that I have another staff person retiring?  I am down so many staff hours at work it is crazy.  We might have to go to every other weekend soon, and if we do I won't be happy in the least.  Sometimes I wish I was ready to retire, but I don't want to wish away the years yet.

Hey Kendra. I hate that you are losing folks. That is silly that they won't hire folks.

I am curious on what is in sauerkraut soup..... other than beer. I have a bunch of sauerkraut I made last year and could use a new recipe.

Sauerkraut soup with cheese

Zuurkoolsoep met kaas

Publish Date: Mar 07, 2005
Tags: Soups & Stews

for 4-6 people:
5 deciliter / 2 cups dry white wine (Riesling)
or pilsner beer
5 deciliter / 2 cups water
4 vegetable stock cubes
500 grams / 1 lb 2 oz. sauerkraut, drained
8 long shallots or 2 medium-size leeks
3 tbsp cornstarch
2 deciliter / 3/4 cup cream
300 grams / 11 oz. aged Gouda
2 tbsp parsley

Put wine (or beer) with the water in a pot and boil. Let the stock cubes dissolve. Chop or cut the sauerkraut, thinly slice the shallots or leeks and add to the stock. Gently boil for five minutes. Sprinkle in the cornstarch and stir well. Add the cream and bring to a slow boil. Simmer for another five minutes, stirring regularly.

Cut, grate or chop the cheese into smallest pieces.

Pour the soup into a heated bowl, fold in the cheese and sprinkle with finely chopped parsley. Serve with oven-toasted wholewheat buns or baguette.

I always leave my car out of gear and just put on the emergency brake.  I too drive a manual.  The only time I put it in gear is when I am on a hill.  then it is the gear and emergency brake.

I usually just leave it in gear, unless I'm on a hill I'll leave it in gear and use the break. I'm going to start doing both, so hopefully I'll remember at least one of them.

Bummer about the battery.  Get a new one pronto.    Batteries aren't like they used to be.  We have found that once they die, they really won't hold a charge for long after that.
