I got tickets to go down to the US track and field Olympic trials down at Hayward Field!! Not sure if any of you guys are track and field fans but I sure am! We get to see Allyson Felix in the 200m final! Oh SAWEET! I love track and field events. This week is track for our corporate challenge and I can't run I was wanting to run my first sub 6:00 mile since High School Grrrrrr..... It is amazing to see how fast they run the distance events. Speaking of Olympic Trials I might go to the US Swimming Trials on Omaha since it's only 4 hours drive from here. The summer nationals for US masters is the week after in the same pool so I may do that also. One of our swimmers qualified for the Olympic trials in the 100 m freestyle. You know what blows my mind about the trials is that no matter your history you still have to make the team and it can all depend on the outcome of one tiny little race. Even crazier now with the false start rule in T&F. Crazy stuff. You should totally go watch the swimming trials. It's possibly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Also, if my personal goal wasn't to be more responsible, I would totally encourage you to try and run a sub 7 with a sling. But I am being responsible and mature and I recommend you rest up and don't run! |

I think it's time to start accessorizing the marathon. You know, bring sexy back? Ok, haha, Yanti, glad to have you back for our redonkulous conversations. I'm doing my part! I think my tattoos are pretty sexy. And I get to pick up my awesome new earrings tonight! All titanium from a fantastic body jewelry company called Anatometal. Of course, it will be a bit before I can wear them all as I have to stretch my piercings (slowly) to 14g from 18g. Check back with me in 6 weeks. You have really unique, meaningful tattoos. Well, most people's are meaningful, but not necessarily unique. I have to wear colorful intricate dangly earrings on long runs (and ESPECIALLY marathons). You may remember that, Jen, but the rest of the Manatees wouldn't. Anyway, there's a good story behind it. Crap, it's not like I've even done a long run in months, though. I DO remember that! There were some great pics. I also loved the Elvis run. We found out that there is a 10k at Virginia Beach for Halloween that will let us bring E in the jogging stroller!! I'm trying to convince my hubby that we should dress up as the Incredibles. I think it would be pretty easy to pull off and a really fun family costume. |

And ouch ^^^ We're getting there. Trying to avoid the strep and hand-foot-mouth disease that's going around daycare (UGH!). Seriously, those were the emails waiting for me when I got to work this morning. I'm almost done with the prednisone. I think E and I are going to try to take an easy run tomorrow after work/daycare while my hubby is at his work dinner. May only be a mile, but that is something! And stretching isn't too bad. It feels a bit like a bruise. You just have to do it slowly or you get scar tissue and bad healing. So, two steps: 18g -> 16g -> 14g. I do 2 - 3 weeks at 16 then I can go to 14. |

Should I just do effort based training during my visit? It's a lot more difficult. People who live at elevation have a higher percentage of hemoglobin in their blood and developed slightly enlarged hearts as compensatory mechanisms to move enough oxygen into their body. I would definitely do effort-based training for the first few days. After that, you'll have an idea of how much you could push it. If you want to do a specific distance, just take it slower. Also, make sure you are drinking more water. It's a lot easier to get dehydrated at altitude. |

It's the third and a few more that'll kick you in the chest (quite literally). So take it easy on those days. Then you might get a good day or two as you've acclimated and will be heading home I ran the Reno marathon (don't know if it still even exists or if they changed the course, etc.) but it had some serious elevation gain as well. Of course, I ran it on the third day I was there. Idiot. It was also freezing (literally, still snow on the ground) at the beginning but by mid-day it was mid-80s. Oh, and it started an hour late. Despite all that, it was one of my favorite marathons. |

I can take weeks to actually acclimate... So I think effort based is a good plan. |

At our family reunions the following things have happened: -60 acre forest fire -overturned bayliner ski boat -totaled 2011 shelby mustang -corvette broke through iced over lake they were driving on the list actually goes on but I am starting to feel a little self conscious. Maybe what I am asking is for you to all pray for my safe journey and getting run miles in is not what I should be worried about. |

My race...well, was cold and wet and windy. So no blazing times, but it's my first DU, so it's a PR either way! haha! My race report is up It would have been so much fun if it was nice out. As it was, well, I was quite sick of the rain within the first hour. Way to go!! Congratulations! |

Hellz yes for a PR, too! No kidding! |

During my running races, I try to color coordinate everything (pink and black seem to be the anchors). Someone mentioned it at a trail run (the only one so far) I did last fall. I mean, everything I had on was hot pink or black (except my shoes, dang it). I didn't want to get mistaken for dirt, I guess. lol And whenever anyone on BT asks "Which shoes should I wear for this race . . ." I always answer "The ones that match your outfit." I'm not even a girlie girl, and I know that much. Duh. |

Master 2770 Central Kansas | Subject: RE: Yanti & Salty MAD MANATEES Part 2 -- Full Pod TriAya - 2012-06-04 1:48 PM I was gonna say. I think TMI is a Manatee pre-req. Oh, good. Here's my question. During the summer, I run a lot at night. And I mean, sometimes late-late, like starting the run after 10:00 p.m. I just have to because it's so dang hot during the day and the heat starts early in the morning. Anyway, normally, I would never dream of running in just shorts and a running bra, but I am considering it on these late night runs because wearing a shirt is really uncomfortable. So my question is, would it be okay if I wore a running bra and shorts with my lovely mesh/reflective vest and my head lamp if it is after 10:00 p.m. and maybe no one will notice what I'm not wearing? I am a 34/36D, if that makes a difference. And I'm 50. It's not like I'm a 34B and 20 years old; I wouldn't even hesitate if that were the case. Sorry if this is TMI or puts a nasty picture in your brain. I'll try to cleanse your brain with a cute kitty. |

We found out that there is a 10k at Virginia Beach for Halloween that will let us bring E in the jogging stroller!! I'm trying to convince my hubby that we should dress up as the Incredibles. I think it would be pretty easy to pull off and a really fun family costume. Oh, Jen! Please, please do this. It would be so cute. |

Oh man, do your thing! Certainly no complaints here Really, you should, and everyone should, do what makes them comfortable. YOU are the one out there working your butt off! The only thing that goes into my head is red flags of safety. But obviously running at night as a female has its risks regardless. |
