Went for a swim in the lake with Fred this morning.  Great spot but borderline wetsuit legal for sure!

I also rode the hillier section of the bike course.  Wherever the 12% section is, it must be short because I don't recall anything too insane.  I haven't uploaded my ride yet but I would say I had to go over 300 watts for more than 10 seconds 4 or 5 times?  I'm sure on the second loop that will be a killer but it didn't seem so bad today

Was that on Duplessis (left coming out of transition ) ?

Yup, I haven't gotten out onto the 117 with my bike.  Drove it in the car though and found a nice little farmer's market.

Hello from rural AB! Getting ready for my oly this weekend. I had the day off today because I was on ER call last night. I went for a short ride and then read outside and napped this afternoon. I love free days off and taper time! I hope everyone heading to MT got there safely!

For the record, my first year living in Canada was in Grand Prairie.  Bit of a shock to the system for a kid from England when winter rolled around.

Lol! Good old GP! I can imagine the winter weather shock. Edmonton isn't much better weather wise though. That's why my family heads out to Maui in Dec-Jan! Avoid that -40C!

yes, that's funny to mention that. I weighed in at 169lbs this year which is probably right. Last year I weighed 160 but at weigh in I was 168 and I was like WTH? I ended up last years IM weighing 150lbs by the Ned, which is apparently not good lol.

I've been in the 163-165 range for the last two months and yesterday they got me at 174!

Should have added that - this is NP.

I got ride of the zeros from my CPU, so it's as close to NP as possible, and from what I've seen over the past couple of months the data after and during is reasonably close.

For the record I'm currently thinking to keep my 10minute lap segments between 205-210 watts.  Not sure if I'm being overly aggressive, conservative, or just about right with this.

If you can hold 207 NP for 120km (I'm assuming 3.5-4 hours) and still run 8km after, then I would say that 205-210 NP is a pretty safe target for your HIM.

I only asked because I don't know the terrain you ride and how it compares to your race.  In my training rides, my AP is usually 15% lower than my NP because there are just some areas where I have to coast...stop lights, steep hills, etc that wouldn't be a problem on a closed course.  During races, my AP is much closer to my NP as most of my races are not that technical and you can pedal at a constant effort throughout.

Thanks Jason.  I'll definitely be aiming to keep my VI low, but expect a difference between AP & NP given how hilly this course is.

Thanks James - now it's time to finally translate that into an HIM finish that I believe I'm capable of.

Lol. Maybe post race? I've always kind of wondered who came up with poutine? In Edmonton we have restaurants called "la poutine" with crazy variations. I have not been sufficiently craving/drunk and been nearby one to go in though....haha.

I had a very disappointing 15km TT last night

Last year I did it and averaged 305 watts (was very happy) but only got 40km/h, so was disappointed. I questionned my position and/or calibration of power meter.

I have worked on my position, and have been doing a fair amount of hills, but mostly rolling at 80% FTP type work.  But on my road bike have been able to get good power climbing. 5x6min@320w, 4x10min@290w..

So went went to a flat TT last night based on what I thought was decent fitness and my 305watts from last year.

I thought my bike was strong compared to my run

I had my Quarq on the crank and a PT on the back because I wanted to see the difference.
But I had the Quarq on my Edge 500 , the PT on a 310xt on my wrist
Right before the ride the Quarq was giving funny calibration numbers, not crazy but a bit off

So I go off, Nice 340 for the first little bit, and it starts to drop and drop and drop. WTF, at one point I am averaging 264w
I did 2x20'@264 last week. WTF ? I am discouraged, my HR high and I just felt like sitting up and giving up

I look at my wrist and my PT is reading 285 and at this point I had backed off a tad. So I pushed a little and finished,
I'm almost a minute faster than last year.

So I don't know what to make of this whole little experiment. 264 sucks, but I am sure it's wrong.
Between the weird Quarq calibration numbers and my speed, it has to be wrong
285 is ok, especially in flat TT, knowing i probably backed off a little.
It's not the 305 from last year but it's at a faster speed (41.4km/h vs 40 last year).

So I get home thinking my FTP is off and my running is off.....wow...what a mess. Bottom line my 20min FTP test means nothing

So this morning I was totally bummed. Went for a run and was hitting 4:35/km on 18km in Z1/Z2....Weird....good, but weird.

And I thought my bike was ok and my run was off....what do I know. I may redo the TT next week.

With that much weirdness, I would just pretend it didn't happen and redo it like you said.
