I finished my fourth and final sprint of the season this morning.  I did a 1/2 mi swim, 11 mi bike and 2.8 mile run in 1:29, which includes long distances in the transition area!  I wanted to beat 1:30 and did.  It was 42 degrees at race start and never got above 50, so after waiting 90 minutes post-race, I got cold and didn't wait around to see the final results.  They had multiple events going on, and never did say when results/awards were happening....I will let you know once they are posted online in the next 24 hours.  Hopefully I won the Athena division, but I have no idea!  I did pass a lot of people on the bike.  I will work on my race report and let you read the details when you have the time.  Robin, good job on finishing the 1/2, that is really awesome!!  Looking forward to everyone else's reports!!!

I am feeling pleased as punch that I did four races this year, when I originally set out to do just one.  I am going to do an Oly next season, for sure, and maybe two.  Who knows?  This is addictive stuff, and it's a slippery slope!!!!  Finding BT and this mentoring group was awesome!!!

It's really been cool watching you progress throughout this year!  I remember early on thinking that pushing the stroller will probably do you good, and hopefully you would stick with it.  You definitely surpassed the speeds that I thought you would do this year, and the number of races!  Definitely shows what I learned as well that consistency and dedication is really the key!

Congratulations!  No matter what you're place is in this race, I'm happy for you! Cool

Congratulations to everyone. You are all very inspiring and motivate me to get my Butt out there when I can!  Now can someone call the RED SOX and get them going so I don't have to take the bridge when they choke away the AL East to the f-ing Yankees.....

Congrats on your first HIM Robyn!

And congrats on doing so well in your 4th race Leslie!

I did well in my race on Saturday.  I took around 10 minutes off my time from the last race, and this one was actually slightly longer.   I'll try and get a race report up soon.

I'm absolutely livid. My first race photos from a month ago ONLY came in print format. Not digital.

I asked for digital format, and the guy was like ok. I can do it. $15 apiece.

Then he said to me...and I'll never forget this.

SEND A CHECK.

Who the hell uses checks anymore? Especially in an online business. I was absolutely floored.

So, I sent money order. I have yet to receive my digital images. And it's my first tri.

Hey Erin,
You did great! It's not about the race report...it's about the fact you can fill one out with a successful finish!! Celebrate, girl!!

erjellum - 2007-09-27 12:51 PM Can't wait for the race report!  My season is over too.  For everybody else who's season's done, are you looking forward to next season as much as I am?

I am looking forward to next season!  Here's summary of this season's accomplishments plus next season's goals that I posted on the Clydes/Athena board.  I'd love to see everyone else's summaries!

I had planned to do one sprint tri this season and ended up doing four sprints!  I went from no swimming to swimming about a mile, running about 15 min to running an hour, and from zero biking to mountain biking pulling the kids for a few minutes here and there to road biking for 2 hours feeling I could do even more.  In the past year I lost 50 pounds-lots of it once I signed up for a tri, toned up the flab and feel better than I have since the kids were born.  I am in a smaller clothing size than I have ever worn, and that is pretty cool.  This summer I attended my 20-year reunion and was happy that I was better looking than in high school (I think so, anyway), in no small part due to triathlons.  Plus, I got to say that I was a triathlete, which rocked!  I am most proud of inspiring a lot of my family and friends to get off the couch and get into shape--it's amazing what people around me are doing now!  Plus, my kids are now exposed to a much healthier lifestyle which I think will impact them for their entire lives.  Finally, I have met many friends on BT, which is so much fun! << <MUCH THANKS TO THIS MENTORING GROUP!>>>>

Now, on to next season:  I plan to train for an Oly, do some 5- and 10-k runs during the winter, swim swim swim at the gym all winter, and run and ride outside as much as I can.  Next season I will do some sprints and at least one Oly, maybe more!  I am planning to try out for the roller derby team in November, if I can get on skates a few times between now and then.  I didn't think I could do it due to my age, but my husband is insisting I should at least give it a go!! Yay!!

Medusa, that's awesome!

I've found I'm more confident since I've trained for a tri. I don't allow people to treat me with disrespect, and when they do, I don't think something is wrong with me. I'm much calmer in my daily life. I will keep this lifestyle up.

And I *love* the fact I'm seeing muscles in my arms and abs!

Awesome story about the German waitress!  Question:  Other than the naming of the airport, How is RyanAir?

I'm doing UK 70.3 next year and Nan and I wanted to fly around afterwards.  Mainly she wants to see Ireland.  She's Orange Irish.

Hey Dan - RyanAir is fine for getting over to Ireland from England - the price is right!  But there are a few others as well such as EasyJet.  Once you're in Ireland, you'll want to drive though.

My wife is from N. Ireland, so we make regular pilgramages over!

OK.  After my first season of Triathlons, it is now time for me to reflect.  I have lost around 20 pounds and I feel much healthier.  I am now 190 pounds and about 12 % body fat.  Other than the cramps, I was happy with my first year of events.

I have lifted weights consistently for the past 13 years, but have slowed way down during Tri training.   In general,  my body size is not that of a triathlete.  Realistically, I don't think I will ever be (or want to be) the 155#, fast tri guy, but I desire to be competitive.  I feel more comfortable in my profession when I am stronger (absolute strength) which means I have to be a heavier weight.  I am contemplating lifting heavy in the "off season" and putting on 10 pounds (muscle I hope) so I can race in the Clydesdale division next year.  Is this a stupid philosophy?  I can't see myself loosing enough weight (muscle) to be competitive therefore maybe I should gain weight.  Obviously, the more weight I can loose, the faster I will get (Ex. Willie) but I am still a long distance from the guys who are winning the events.  I don't really want to sacrifice too much muscle to increase my speeds.  I guess I want the cake and I want to eat it too!  Is it a crazy idea to want to gain weight and race Clydesdale or should I maintain my current weight and continue to race with the thin dudes.

I want to do the exact opposite and get out of the clydesdale division. I would not want to be much below 190 for work sake though. I agree with Aaron that sometimes we have to fight with guys that just pump iron in the jail all day and are pretty strong! I am OK with never winning anything in TRI, it is the experience that I love. People like you guys are the best!!!!

Dan...It is not orange Irish it is Ginger. Us Irish Catholics might find the term "Orange Irish" offensive.......That is the color traditionally worn by protestant protestors at violent events in Ireland.....NOT to start a holy war......

EasyJet is wonderful. It's like the "Southwest Airlines" of Europe.

RyanAir is known in Europe for building their own airports WAY outside of towns and naming it the name of a city that is or is not close by. Be forewarned. You might end up 100 km outside of where you think you are. As I did.

You'll want to check out this site for airline info regarding shipping your bike:
