How about we just take each ride as it comes.

The Sunday TdF ride sounds fun!!  I wanted to get some hills in, but this will work too. OH! But I bet since we will be in the air conditioning.....the Bots will want to start later......this may mean we could do an uber early ride outside on the hills first, then end up at the bots for some TdF/ESCKTC fun!!!

You wait and see how HARD this is! We WILL ride HILLS!!! See those two big ones, means you crank it up to your HARDEST GEARS AND PUUUSH!!! We will be dying, we rode a tiny hill last night and I was DYING! BUT girl you go ride extra all you want! I may try and hit the Red Mountain Las Sendas sometime this week before work...hmmm...is this possible for anyone else?

ETA - No riding trainers is NOT the same as real riding but I do guarantee this WILL be a GREAT workout!!

sportyj - 2008-07-07 11:08 AM PJ - . .. Tanya - YES I have TWO SHOWERS! I would offer the hot tub as a GIANT communal bathtub but thats just NASTAY!!! But its still available. HA! ETA - One of my bathrooms has a shower and a tub so while someone showers someone else can use the tub, thought Jerry might like to know this. :p

Are all the facilities glassed and viewable from the trainers?  What sort of shower show is it supposed to be? I would like to know!

Also - do we need a yoga mat if we do not sweat?

I'll see what I can do about a trainer for TDF on Sunday. Where can you get one cheap? I like the idea of buying it and taking it back the next day

I would also be open to riding outdoors if there are people that can't/don't want to do the TDF thing.

How early would an outdoor ride have to start in order to be finished by TdF?

Okay. Sounds like I need to start doing Sunday rides again so Aaron & I can hang together. Assuming he doesn't mind hanging back with me...

Could I come to the TdF ride and just bring a bar of soap and a back scrubber?

Note my picture update. See why I need to ride?!

As a slow newbie I thought I would chime in that I liked the way the ride went the week I was out. I think everyone went at their own pace and then we regrouped at the corners. I never felt "alone" even though there were points that I couldn't keep up.

Welcome to the world of TiVO! El Tour starts when we say so (that's right Tanya) none of this 5:30 AM crap in the SportyBot house! It will be closer to the afternoon/ evening.

I saw 2 trainers on CraigsList, a mag for $50 and a Cycleops Fluid for $145.

PJ - J and I have to head for Performance this week after yoga if you want us to pick you something up...or come with after yoga...manana?

What time is good for everyone?

Dude. Seriously. This would be a really good excuse to get me back into the rides. I'm probably slower than you, so I'd be having to play catch up. But we could get faster together. I also don't have a TT bike, although I do have some bars that I have yet to fit...

I really wasn't saying I didn't enjoy the group rides, but just recently that the group rides I had been a part of I really wasn't a part of the group at any time start to finish, that's all.

I understand everyone has their speed and training goals to meet, so maybe how the group was on the first few rides I went on compared to how the last four I have been on has changed. So with that, my expectations will have to change, especially since most of the group now has TT bikes meaning it is even less likley I will be a part of the majority of the group on a ride.

I have already said too much on this matter so I am not going to comment further on the dynamics of the group rides. If I am at a ride and I am dropped than so be it as it was my choice to show up in the first place.

No worries man, I'm on a roadie and I'm looking forward to kicking some a$$ or busting mine to keep up.

Where is performance cycle?

I'll be riding my roadie on hills and certain rides that call for road bikes. In the wind and on straighter/ flatter rides yes a TT bike will be faster. But this is an entire other thread/ discussion. It all boils down to, its NOT the bike...its the engine. I have some pretty nice bikes and I still dont pull times like many people I know on BT that don't ride bikes as nice as mine. But that's beside the point.

Lets all hold hands, sing cumbaya and BE HAPPY we can even RIDE BIKES...SERIOUSLY!!! Let's take this in perspective for a second. MM K? At least we have friends that we can ride bikes with, at least we have the physical ability to ride bikes...

Mirg - Performance is HERE
I am going tomorrow after yoga if you want a shopping buddy! (about 6-6:30!)

IF, a big IF, i don't get my new bike by this weekend, someone could borrow my trainer.  I will find out tomorrow on when my bike(bikes) is due.   If I have the bike, I will ride.

So how will this mock stage of the TDF work. We'll set up the trainers and just ride for 3 hours? I still don't have a computer for my bike and I'm anal about keeping track of my time/distance. I got to the gym today and realized I didn't have my watch for my swim. I drove all the way home (about 14 miles) just to get the damn thing and then I went back to the gym. I'm planning on getting a garmin 305 but they don't have them online at costco anymore so I'm going to have to shop around for one.

My wife is gonna hate me come Sunday!

We can either ride the entire stage or ride a set time. Unfortunately unless you have your odometer/ computer on your rear wheel you will not know speed or distance BUT this can be set up before the weekend! OR we can determine a set time we want to ride and start from there. The hills are at the end and I doubt people want to spend 3 hours on their trainers so I am figuring we ride an hour to an hour and a half (or more, doesn't matter to me!). Get a good warm up and do the two big hills at least.

What say you all?

PS - Your wife is welcome to come! She can watch the tour and then stick around for the eats! I have a bar (unfortunately not that kind) that she can hang out at and chat while we ride then stick around for afterward if you want!

Unfortunately my wife will be working (she's a PA) so it will just be me.

I'm planning on getting a Garmin with the bike setup so she won't mind about that and I'll just use some of my "graduation" money for the trainer plus $80 isn't that much in the world of "triathlon".

Will there be a yellow jersey up for grabs?
