So I was at my TNT swim training today - we had all the DFW teams together.  Lots of fun - learned some new drills to use going forward.  Last thing we did was a relay race.  I was second on my team - push hard off the wall and BAM!!!  Double calf cramps.  I struggle down to 25 yd turn and but could not make the turn and swim back.  Every stroke the two little baseballs that used to be my calves knotted up harder....  OMG - what pain!!  I looked like a Forrest Gump in a pool pulling myself down the lane rope all the way back...

Just had to share a day in the life....

Yes, I know...  Haven't be eating the daily naner....  Time to get back on the yellow stuff....

Alright my MG peeps...  I am signing out for the week - I'll be thinking of you all when I am lounging in the surf and sun...  Oh yeah, and when I am eating that prime rib and lobster...

Have fun Andy!!!!  Eat and drink whatever you want, whenever you want.  you can train it off when you get back.  (john told me to write that because he needs every advantage to try to beat you in April)    happy turkey day.

Hey John--Oooooh, now I get it...you think I am some old lady who wears glasses and runs all over bossing everybody around.  Hmmm, you better be careful what you eat on April 24,2010.  I would hate for you to come down with some major GI distress unexpectedly.  Seriously, I've never even heard of the Incredibles.

Andy--have a great time. Totally jealous of your seafood consumption and frolicks on the beach.  Live it up!

Supposed to be near 60F here today which is pretty amazing for this time of year.  Unfortunately, given the foot we are sequestering me on the CT for the foreseeable future to avoid mishaps (which I take to mean SJ thinks I am a clod).  Then we're sponsoring a fund raising event for my favorite non-profit, The Nature Conservancy.  Dragging the man along and he isn't happy.  Likely we will have to leave for it before the Packer game is over....he gets major honey points for that one.

Have a great day all.

Since I am off running for a while I've been able to ride on the weekends.  For the record I LOVE MY EQUINOX!!   I am averaging 2mph faster on my routine 25mile loop!   That bike loves to go fast and straight and is lighter on the climbs as well.  ME LIKES!!!!

Means your body need protein after all of the marathon build-up.  I've read numerous times you can eat 6 eggs a week and not affect cholesterol levels.  I eat one every day for my second breakfast as an egg sandwich-fried egg, 1/2 piece toast, .2 oz swiss cheese and a touch reduced fat mayo....YUM! And less than 200 calories to boot.

Rest day today, swim/weights tomorrow all in the name of healing the foot.  What's on tap for everyone else?

Tough as nails Linda won't run in the rain? are you kidding me?  If I could run right now, I would hightail it to your house and pull you out the door.

LOL!  I was looking at her post trying to decide which way to go with it.  Way to many options, luckily I refreshed and you posted so I don't have to say anything about how I ran in the rain this past saturday and amazingly I didn't melt.  ;-)

ok i can't help it......

Hey Linda, you should move to Texas.  The families can hang out.  You and I can sit around on the couch hoisting cold ones all day Saturday watching LSU and USC get there a$$es kicked, and ,get this,  we can run in the rain.  Yup, and whats really cool is if it rains hard enough and water starts to accumulate, we can have puddle fights.  HAHA puddle fights with you would make long run so much more enjoyable.

Happy Monday on a short week.

Couldn't figure out where that PR came from, tri I did in 2008.  Need to update that PR list, I did 24:45 at that same race a year later but never remember to update the pr log.

Today is my rest day. Yesterday and saturday I moved 3000 lbs. of Railroad ties in building walls around fir trees in my backyard. I am sore and need the day off. Tomorrow, for the first time, I am running with Marty, my new coach. Hopefully we can start improving my form and technique. Anything is better than "plodding."

BTW: If you have not read "Born to Run" by Christopher McDougall, I HIGHLY recommend it. One of the best books I have read in years. I went on youtube to see what some of the people in the book look like in action. Way cool!

Hey all...Got a bit of training in, but what a weekend.
Long story short.....Took home computer in to get burner replaced, and the motherboard fried, so bought a laptop and spent many hours getting the new computer up. Its windows 7...seems pretty cool over XP and the dreaded Vista.

And then last night, got my running bag together. Couldnt find my hat and Ipod that I had left in the entry. Wife goes "OHHH SH***T I think its in the washing machine!!" And yes it was. Good news..Sennhesier headphones and clean and operational. bad news Ipod Nano is fried! Expensive weekend.

Trevor - ouch.  Sorry to hear all that.

Linda - join LifeTime Fitness with me!   I'm a regular at the Tuesday morning spin class!!!

Doug - Tell me a little about the book? Why do you like it?  Is it a training book or a motivational story? Yes I am too lazy to read the Amazon review.

Since our local Turkey Trot is full my husband decided to organize his own.  All of our training friends are meeting with their families and we are doing our own little 5K.  People will move out in groups, depending on speed, and gimpy me gets to be the one in the back with all the little kids on bikes and training wheels (therapist still hasn't cleared me to run). But it should be a great time.

poor guys....waa waa waa...get a cheapo creative zen like mine...it actually made it through the wash with no problem...i have dropped it numerous times.  $79 about 7 yrs ago, recently saw it for $39.  only thing i don't like is that you have to replace batteries.  well, never mind, i've probably spent more on batteries over the years than the i pod would have cost!  waa waa waa me!
taking the bike out today for a little ride.  i am officially on a taper.  the longest run I have this week is 4 miles....wow, what to do.  maybe catch up on some housework.

Tracy:

The book is a first hand experience of the author and focuses most on the Tarahumara people in Mexico. They are Awesome runners in every sense of the word. It deals with ultra running, but there is terrific insight on nutrition, evolution, barefoot running, and a wide assortment of characters: Caballo Blanco, Scott Jurek, Billy Barnett, Barefoot Ted, Jenn Shelton, Ann Trason, Bob Francis, John Vigil, etc.  I actually want to go the a GNC store now to look for a few things (chia seeds in particular).

I was truly sad when I finished the book.

Trevor--don't give up hope on the IPOD, let it dry out for a few days.  I dropped mine in the toilet (don't ask), fished it out and three days later it was nearly good as new....still have it two years later.

John/Linda--running in the rain is great. Stick a baseball cap on your head and go.  I did my second marathon in a torrential downpour--5" of rain and a half in 3" of rain with a lightening/thunder combo in Nashville.  The last one I didn't have a hat and my contact slid out it was raining so hard.  Only downside is extra chaffing and weight in your shoes....
