Master 1655 NJ | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED I've lost 13 pounds since 12/22 so it is all good. I finally feel I can finish losing weight. My goal is to get to 146 or about 14.5-15.5% body fat. I seem to lose 1-1.5 pounds a week which is great.
Awesome job, Kathy!! |

I can tell you, they were unbelievable. My sister made these carrot cake cupcakes, and in the middle she put "pastry cream" which is like pudding, that she made, using real vanilla bean. That happened to me last year so I asked for fenders for Christmas. Bring a bucket of warm water to clean your bike. Key place after wet ride is to wipe chain off and then when dry clean it well.

Expert 687 Cambridge, MA | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED First for me: Got through my first TT yesterday and it was great! Got my HR to a RIDICULOUS ZONE, worked harder than I ever had on the bike and got some elite-types coaching me through the gears at the end (you know, cause they've already been done for 10minutes!), which was a super cool thing. The computrainer course was modeled after the last 8miles of the Harpoon Brewery 2 Brewery ride that they do every year from Boston to VT. It starts flat, a couple minor rolls then something like a MILE LONG HILL at the end before you coast down into the VT brewery. That hill killed after 6 and a half hard miles, and I can't imagine doing it toward the end of a 150mile ride! Anyway, with the help of my "coaches" for the last half mile, I didn't come in dead last and was super proud of that. Especially thinking that I'd embarrass myself amongst all the Team Psycho and elite jerseys and more shirtless guys with Ironman tattoos than I've ever seen in one place, it was pretty cool. On tap for today: biking to and from 1hr PT at lunch, might make it to spin at 5pm if that hasn't done in my legs completely. Question: I just started using a HRM recently and have been getting a sense of what my limits and avgs look like on the bike and run, but haven't been very scientific about it or been using it to set specific training goals... what's the best way to calculate your zones and how are you typically using that in your training? Master 2146 East Side of the Bay | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Hi everyone! Thank you all for your inspires and virtual hugs. I am hoping to get back to a regular week today. After catching up with your posts I can only say: Helen- you are a crazy training nut! MIna- hope your TT went well and that you mostly had fun and challenged yourself... Judi- hope your asthma is coming under control. Kathy G- congrats on the weight loss!! Darren- thanks for reminding all of us hens that cupcakes make life more fun and to lose some of our guilt around food! Linda- I love the concept of emotional cross-training! Leah- I have thought a lot about the concept of selfishness. I think that women especially tend to catagorize all things we do for ourselves as selfish rather than just self care. Training and sports in general allow us to be a better persons and give us a perspective which we can share with our families and others. We also provide strong role models for our children and friends. I think that it is really cool that some of my daughter's friends look at me as a cool mom because I teach spin and like to exercise. I know my brother felt the same way and tried to take time for activities he enjoyed both seperately and with his sons. While sometimes our training gets time consuming, we all just need to be aware of where our priorities lie and find the balance that works for us. I choose my avatar last month to reflect my own search for balance and to acknowledge that the balance will shift continuously and my goal is to stay upright, appreciate what I have and savor each joyful moment completely! Have a good week all. I haven't completed my challenges for last week- esp. the new veggie one since my diet has primarily consisted of lasagne and coldcut sandwiches sent by friends. Should we extend the challenges through this week? Post any new suggestions as well! |

Pro 4828 The Land of Ice and Snow | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Hello all! Well my fingers have thawed out enough from yesterday's ride that I can type a challenge list for this week! Should have put this up yesterday, sorry. We will start tomorrow ok? Tuesday: Lets do a water challenge.....I know that I for one have NOT been drinking enough ......keep track of how much water you drink today and post the amount at the end of the day. Wednesday: Share your favourite stretch or yoga move with the group....pics if you want (yes Judi, I am a COMPLETE geek now!)... Thursday: What goes with water? Fiber! Keep track of all the fiber you eat today.....lets see if we can get the recommended amount in today...which I think is 25g... Friday: This was a great suggestion from Mina! Share your best training or racing story with your peeps! Saturday: Sorry...cannot resist...can we paint our toe nails??? And we can share the colour with the group if not pics.....come on Darren it will be fun!!!! How does this stuff sound? Remember this is just for fun ,so don't make it a burden or anything. Just have some fun with it!

Master 1591 San Diego, CA | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Good morning all ( I know that many of you have been at it for several hours now). I'm planning for a positive day. Last week was my recovery week and I had a little too much time on my hands. Back to building. It's raining here and I love it. Almost 4 whole days of straight rain (it doesn't happen much here in San Diego). I am so impressed with new moms and dads that manage to get their workouts in. We have a bunch in our Masters group and even with the lack of sleep and the crazy feeding schedules they are out there. All of you amazing parents out there impress me. It's just my husband and I and I feel like I can barely hold it all together sometimes. You're all rock stars! |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED Kathy, Thanks for your thoughts on selfishness verses self care. It is an important factor to balance the self care with family responsibilities and jobs. Now your avatar makes complete sense to me...before I didn't get it but figured "whatever" when I looked at it. Perfect picture of balance.
Helen, Great challenge ideas. You don't want to see picture of my ugly toes--even when painted you can clearly see "runners toes" all over the place. Only thing worse than runners toes is a dancer's foot with bunions and callouses from pointe shoes and the turn out. |

Royal(PITA) 14270 West Chester, Ohio | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED running4beer - 2009-02-09 9:02 AM THere is a great article here on the site for that. I'm almost out of my lunch break time so I'll have to hunt it later for you. Remember to take into consideration effects of medications. My inhalers jack up the HR readings...some BP meds will drop it as an example.

Veteran 340 | Subject: RE: QUEEN ZIP & KathyG - CLOSED This week is my taper down week. Yesterday I did not venture far from my book, my blanket, and my couch. I KNOW a total slouch! This morning I did my little run to make up yesterdays workout, and this afternoon, I did a little bike ride, for todays plan. Tuesday is a rest day, not sure what I am resting from with so little that has been done. Next week, the original plan from BT was for me to do nothing! Is that normal? |
