Can you see my results on my page? After I put everything in it asked if I wanted to make it public...didn't know what that meant, if EVERYONE on BT could see it or just my friends. Any thoughts?

Unless you make it public, only you can see it.  There's no distinction for friends and everyone on BT on race reports, just public and private.

Boo, okay well maybe I'll modify it a bit and make it public. Seems like no one else has posted anything from that race yet.

Is your profile pic from the race?  It's cute!

morrisel - 2010-04-19 9:59 AM Just wanted to let everyone know I completed my 1st TRI yesterday!!! I finished, had a smile on my face, and even got an award! Check out my page if you'd like! I am totally hooked now and am planning on completing an OLY Tri in October!

Apologies for not being around lately, but congrats on a new boyfriend! That's always exciting. And I'm sorry to hear about your accident, Melissa. Glad no one was hurt. Jenna, I hope they're able to find out what's really wrong with you. I have had similar problems with doctors & misdiagnosis before so I understand how frustrating it is. Kim, hope you're knee keeps healing. And to everyone else, keep working hard and you can accomplish amazing things!

Great job. Congrats! Feels good, doesn't it?

I am not worried about the car deal...

I am actually enjoying being without it.  I am doing a lot more biking in combination with buses.  My friend bought me an awesome pannier as an early birthday gift. I am planning on swinging by a used bike store later today to pick up a rack.

My front bumper had a bit of damage anyway, getting it replaced now with insurance costs less than paying to replace it on my own.

Also...In my general conversation with my insurance agent I mentioned that I am working on a horticulture degree.  It turns out that he is best friends with a very well connected local Horticulture professional and volunteered to get me in touch with him.  He manages some very prestigious estates in my area.

All in all, there are a lot more positives than negatives coming out of my little fender bender.

Melissa, attitude is everything, and yours clearly rocks! Way to make lemonade out of those lemons, lady Smile

Yes it is from the race. I'm holding up a sign my parents brought with them when they surprised me at the race (they live 3.5 hours away). I put a few other pics from the race in an album as well, if anyone's interested. Not the most flattering pictures but oh well.

I am very excited.  I may have mentioned before...My best friend bought me an awesome pannier for my birthday.  It is an Ortlieb, waterproof, top of the line, and carries my laptop in addition to other stuff.

I bought a rear rack last night from REI (after 30 minutes on the bus and an hour on the bike to get there).  I mounted it and was able to use my pannier for the first time this morning.  The bike is a bit side heavy when walking it, but once I get in the saddle it isn't an issue.  I also brought a warmer change of clothes and a winter jacket...something that I am very grateful to have today.

The rain this morning reminded me that I need to get some fenders to make this bike a decent commuter.  I prefer not to have a constant stream of water hitting me in the chest(and occasionally in my face as well).  Also...I need to waterproof my shoes.

I have been working in the green house and just had a heaving hanging fuchsia basket fall and slam into my head.

I am taking an unplanned break with a bag of ice.  There is a lovely lump forming.  Oh Joy.

I don't think I have any pictures from races that I think are flattering.

It's awesome that they surprised you at the race.  My parents live 1,000 miles away, so they've never been able to see me race.  Although my dad did his first tri last year, so I'm hoping that we will get to do a race together someime.

Nice!  I love the REI in downtown Seattle.  So amazing.

Fenders work really well.  You could look at getting some shoe covers for the rain, too.  They're even on sale right now.

Make sure you mount your heavier pannier on the side of the bike you unclip from to help ensure that you don't unclip left and tip over right.

Don't forget fenders for the rear to keep from spraying water all over your back.

I currently don't have biking pedals/cleats set up on this bike.  The rear rack I purchased has a bit of a fender built...I could get another and mount it underneath if they come as a pair, but if they are sold separately I will just get one for the front at this point.

so i did my first race of the year this past Sunday.  it was a 5k in Lawrence KS.  my sister lives there so it was a race/visit.  her daughter was supposed to do it with me but dropped out at the last minute.  there was one long hill not to long after the start.  i figured i'd run as long as i could and then walk some.  before long i was walking more then running.  finally i gave up and decided to walk up the hills and run down them.  i did OK, though.  it wasn't my fastest race, for sure.  but it wasn't my slowest either. it was pretty hilly.  people who say Kansas is flat have never been to Lawrence.  it doesn't go flat till you go west of Lawrence.  i was 459/480 and 8/11 for my age group.  not bad for the first race of the season.

One race down, more to come.

I am doing a half mary on the first...the last time I tried running it was painful so this will be interesting.  I plan on having a great time though...even if it ends up being a walkathon.

I went out on the tri bike today with the new pedals. I loosened up the tension a bit and had no problems with my heel :D  Had my best ride on this route so far this year. The bike has been cleaned and will be ready to go for next Sunday as soon as I get her lubed. The race route will be flatter/easier/faster than what I've been training on so I'm hoping for a really good ride.

Sooo my right knee hurts. I was sitting, quietly, and watching TV and I went to fold my right leg up under me and felt a tiny twinge, said Ow, and straightened it out. An hour later I get up to go to bed and my knee feels all swollen. Doesn't really hurt much just feels swollen. I start to panic 'cause I'm doing a TRI camp (She Does TRI) this weekend. But when I got up in the middle of the night it felt a little better so I thought maybe it's OK. Then when I got up in the morning it felt OK so I thought all was good. Then I went down the stairs. It hurt and felt all swollen again. So I think I should just not do any training this week and rest it to get ready for the Tri camp. Does that sound good?

And I can't even call it a sports injury!

Oh Judy - that does not sound good.  Maybe you should see at doc?  Are you RICE-ing it?  I'm jsut super paranoid about my knees  now 'cause i"ve had so many issues with them the past couple months.  Good luck - hopefully if you rest it you'll be OK for your camp...
