I thought your race report was sucktasmic.

The race sucked, but what you did and the report were Manatee-tastic.

Way to HTFU and hang in there. Nice blowout to pass the women at the end. Dry heaves and a finishing photo that makes others want to retch gets you some serious respect.

What a doozy!!!

Sometimes, that's what it means to be a triathlete.

And you're a PDQ one!!!

Don't apologize Ryan. It was a great learning experience and practice for the disorganization that I've heard is fairly normal at Lake Geneva. Plus it's a great story! I got to show off the bruises and scrapes from my near wipeout when I was at church yesterday and impress everyone with how hardcore I am

Nice job, you two Chicagoans! Sounds like you both did what you could with what you had, both personally and with the course and vols, etc. Nice job!

How's the house move coming, Alison?

Does not compute ... Lynn does aquabike, then goes to pool ... are we going to have to WRING you out afterward?

Congratulations!!! That's insane!

Oh jeez you two, I am sorry for encouraging you to do this race too.  And I am sorry I didn't come down to watch.  I was awake in time but the rain kept me away.  I also felt guilty as we had my BIL/SIL and nephew in town...it was last minute and I didn't want them to think I was a rude host.

I am kind of pissed about RAM racing now.  I was willing to give them a pass 1x, but they keep absorbing these triathlons around Chicago and then not running  them well.  I wonder if it would make a difference to complain?

And Allison, to your remark in your race report about Frank Dobbs races, yes, transition got a bit disorganized and crowded, but I found the Bigfoot transition to be much more distressing, so IDK.

What IS the plan for LG???  I am definitely spending the night before and DH and I (and possibly two of our friends) are doing the sprint distance.  (I was going to do the OLY, but as I've whined about before, Marathon training is k-i-l-l-i-n-g me.)

No problem Q.  Overall I am glad that I did the race.  I haven't had a tri in the rain yet so I learned quite a bit about setting up in the rain so I will be better prepared next time.  I tried to do this as a warmup for my next 3 tris coming up.  AT least my wife said to do it as a warm-up/practice.  I have a hard time keeping that mentality though because I want to always do my best even if I feel unmotivated before the race.
I am a slacker and I am still debating LG.  I want to do it but I am undecided as to what distance to do.  I have a sprint on 8/15 and 8/29. Hmmmm

Awesome job on the 1/2 Mary.  I commented on our RR.  I wish I could have come down to watch it but ended up sleeping in due to lack of sleep on Fri night.

Someone complained about the race on the RAM facebook page.  It was deleted within a few hours.  Based on that I'm going to go out on a limb and say they don't give a crap.

I missed the Oly I wanted to do in July due to this move (which is progressing nicely Lynn, thanks for asking) and it also messed up my training so the HIM is out.  I refuse to let all the training I did for longer distances go to waste so I'm going for the Oly at LG.  Hubs and I already talked about spending Friday night up there and hopefully leaving the kids with family.  If we get really lucky maybe they'll keep them Saturday night too!

Here's the link for my RR. It's long and I don't blame you if you skim or don't read it fully. It was cathartic for me to write though, so I indulged myself. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=220506

Nice race for you Quincy. I'd like some of your speed. You could probably sub some of your mid week runs with a bike and/or swim if you want a break from so many miles. It's really not absolutely necessary to run that many miles, IMHO. But you're a studdette, so your legs/hips/knees may not be protesting too much. Just sayin...

Hi everyone!

I am back from the most amazing vacation ever!  France was fabulous.  Not only did we get to see the Tour, but there was a triathlon in Paris the first weekend we were there.  Yep, I made my husband get up early to go watch it.  The entire trip was fantastic and fun!  I will post some pictures when I can.  I have been trying to catch up with life since we got home last Thursday.  I volunteered at the Oly that I did last last year.  I didn't think that I would be up to doing it after just getting home from vacation.  I have never volunteered at a race before and it was so much fun.  I did a lot of different things, but I think that I had the most fun spending about 4 hours body marking.  Some triathletes have yummy bodies that I got to touch all day!!!!  I still haven't got back in to training, and I really miss it!  As soon as I catch my breath, I will post the pictures and some more details about the trip.

Oh, and I did not even notice about the mentor program being over.  I hope everyone wants to keep going, because I sure do!

Have a great evening!  And happy training!

Welcome back Karen.  I am glad to hear that you had a great time in France!  Did your husband think you were nuts because you couldn't get away from at least watching a tri on vacation?
That's great that you volunteered at a race too.  I still need to do that!  I'm looking forward to seeing your photos.  Now get back to training!
And yes, we are still going strong here

We have a future triathlete/baby manatee (calf) on the way!
He/she is due on 3/5/2010 (so we're about 9 weeks into the pregnancy).

Okay, talk to me manatees.

T-minus 2 days and 22 hours before my first official sprint tri.  I am nervous.  Not by anything specifically, just in general.

Will I have GI issues?
What if my transitions are sucky?
Are people going to point and laugh at this manatee wrapped in sausage casing?

Physically, I think I am ready.  My fingers are still numb (I pinched my ulnar nerve doing AIDS rides 10 years ago and I have aggravated that) but I can ride like that, no problem.  My run still sucks, but I can walk.  I don't know why I am so nervous?!  I am eating like a horse due to nerves.

So... talk to me.  I know I need to get this first one under my belt and make mistakes to learn from them, blah blah blah.  Just give me your best '2 days 22 hours out advice.'

Thank you

Sleep.  Sleep now, because the closer the race gets, the less likely you'll be to get good rest.

Eat normal.  Since it's a sprint, you don't have to eat anything crazy and that should help with any possible GI issues.

Have fun!  You won't be the only one doing your first.  You won't be the youngest or oldest or biggest or smallest or the fastest or the slowest.  Just go out and have fun

I think you'll do great, and I can't wait to read the RR!
