Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Climbinggonzo - 2012-05-09 9:31 AM 4 mile run this morning in new shoes. Blisters on both heels to prove it. Damn, they're the exact same shoe as my current ones, just different color. Yeah, that's it, the color must have caused those blisters. I'm hoping to get these broken in by the 19th and Fargo Half Marathon. I feel your pain. Last year I replaced mine with the same and ended up with two black toes. Had to take 3 weeks off right before my half mary. Later found out they redesigned the toe box! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Got my 30' Sunch in - I seeing some imrpovement which is good. The funny thing is that I did a few sets where I would swim 75M freestyle and then recover with 25M backstroke. I believe my watch is supposed to be able to detect what type of stroke I'm doing - aparently my backstroke form is soooo bad it labeled my stroke type as "Unknown". - Andy: S 4 / B 5 / R 7 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 16 ; 12:26'41" |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Matthews - 2012-05-09 7:32 AM Ok, so the sore legs and tight muscles are starting to go away and I'm missing my workouts. (not sure if that's good or bad). As we approach winter I would like to get a drainer for the odd rainy day but also so I'm not bound by day light and make my workouts easier on the family. Most of the group leave in other parts of the world to me so I'm not sure how much help you can be but it's worth a try, what is the best trainer for my bike and is there anything that I need to look out for? Is there a certain brand or certain type that is best?I dont need a tread mill as I can run when it's dark or in the rain so so it's only for my bike. I hope to start swimming lesson/coaching soon and start improving my swim so that the next tri will be a solo and not in a team. Hi Matthew, I also fully agree with the comments above. I have a magnetic one as well and gear changes are the oly way to increase the resistance. Fan is a great idea too. But if you are planning on using this at night, keep in mind, that they are kind of noisy... Not extremely noisy, but when it's all quiet around, it can be annoying. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() More on the whole bike trainer subject: I have my kurt kinetic set up in the basement on a rubber workout pad with a large fan infront of me. Also have a TV with cable and DVD hooked up. The bike is right next to our treadmill. I have a table next to it for workouts papers, drinks, remote control etc. I use the power curve to plan my workouts and either have them printed out by what speed I will do for each interval or have them programmed into my Garmin. Having the trainer is very good because of the flexibility it allows in training and the consistency. There are no hills (up or down), no wind, no traffic, etc. You can train consistently and compare results easily. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well darn it, my blisters from the morning run caused me to miss my bike ride this afternoon, and it was going to be a good one! Very little wind and 60 degrees out, I had a 40-50 mile route planned, depending on how I felt. My bike was ready, bottles full, I ate my Hammer gel and went to put my shoes on. I could hardly walk in them, the blisters (which were taped) were rubbing so bad on the bike shoes. Ride cancelled, I sat on the couch and watched a couple episodes of Battlestar Galactica on netflix. |

Expert![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Today I'm feeling really tired and am guessing it is probably because of the taper. Short run in the morning w/ a 6k tempo, 40 min + interval swim at lunch (15 X 100 mts). - Andy: S 4 / B 5 / R 7 / Rest Days 1 ; Total = 16 ; 12:26'41" |

Hour long run last nite and bike to work this morning. Question for the group. I'm having a really hard time getting a good feel for the warm-up on my runs lately. Heart rate really seems to soar (over 160 at times) even at a slow jog. Once I get about two miles in I can hold HR at MAF at a pretty good pace. Is this a normal part of this training? I don't feel like this was happening before I started using MAF, but then I wasn't using my HR monitor as much. |

Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() gobluedds - 2012-05-10 10:56 AM Question for the group. Sometimes there could be a misreading on the HR monitor at the beginning of the run - resulting in a spiked (and false) HR measurement. I had it once (where my HR shoot up to 160+ and drop after about a mile). I know Chris had a few issues with this, and he solved them by using a gel. I personally wet (lick would be a better description) the HR pods before putting them on. I'm sure Chris or Ernesto can give you more info on the subject. I have heard that it might also be caused by static electricity, especially from wearing compression-type shirts while layering, but not sure if this is the case.
