CLOSED TriAya - 2013-02-17 10:53 AM Artemis - 2013-02-17 11:43 PM After yesterday's race, I know that I'm not going to be in good shape to do a 1/2 Marathon next month. Fortunately, I can defer my entry to next year. I did hear (and not just from you but the other usual suspects ) that it really was an exceptionally shytty race. Nevertheless, the path of less is almost always more regarding running and injuries, and speaking of which, how are your hips feeling? P.S. Okay, I'm not going to do this all post by post so ... CONGRATULATIONS BADGER JEN MOOSE! Way to persevere. Holy crap. My hips and glutes are really sore today. I had a hard time walking up the hill to my car after the race. I'm going to a yoga class in an hour, so hopefully that helps. |

Master 6834 Englewood, Florida | Subject: RE: Mad Manatee Mentors, Part 2! CLOSED Hello all, thanks for all your thoughts and prayers today. My race went pretty well, in retrospect. I was hoping for a better time, but again it was a learning experience, and I am good with that. The most fun part was that on the way home we stopped at the Manatee viewing area. Over 100 manatees floating around just outside of a power plant. The water is warm, so they are happy. |

I would say of the three sports in their endurance forms (with the possible exception of bike crits with Cat riders) it's probably toughest to go up against the single-sport swimmers. The power of those guys is phenomenal. I bumped into piglet Mike who is currently training for an English Channel double crossing in 2014....so before Saturday's race he swam 8km in the morning, then did the 2.5km and the 1.2km races then went off and did some more. He currently averages 40km a week.....that's normal for most of the squad 'swimmers'. I love it, I'd like to do more swimming too. |

And the family (husband and 6 year old triplets) move over in April. Now that's great BUT I've kind of gotten used to our independence, no immediate family around. I just know my husband and his sister, she and the kids are gonna be over at ours the whole time which of course is great for Artemis to have her cousins but I'm sorry, my home is my sanctuary, i like to spend time alone there or at most the three of us. Truth be told I'm dreadin the next few months big time - hope I'm strong enough to deal with them all without just quitting...walking away! |

The mental battles are the hardes - file it away in your suffer files, to be used when you're out suffering again! Yeah, I'm learning not to believe what my body is telling me over the first half of a workout. Unless, of course, there's an injury type of pain, but in the absence of that, I'm learning to push through it. It's funny, there's one swim workout I did back in October that stands out in my mind. I think I did 200y before quitting, lol! That one gets chalked up as a life lesson. First 2km of any run of any distance - I loathe. Swim squad, 1km warm up or however long it is - i think of bailing all the way through that. Then boom it's over and we're onto the main set and I'm loving life! It's once the endorphins are pumping I'm fine. Jo have you tried that your bike? On the trainer until you are warmed up then out on the road? |
