Hope everyone has a great weekend!  Looks like the weather is going to be gorgeous in my area!

I'm not planning on training much, but I will be walking around all day Saturday and Sunday at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival.  In my spare time, I do lots of knitting.  Also camping!  I think it's going to be fun.

I've got my first race on Sunday, the Bassman Aquabike (0.5mi swim/29mi bike) up in Tuckerton, NJ. I'm really excited. But I have those pre-race nerves than never seem to go away. I'm ready to kick butt on the bike! :D

Good luck!!!  You're going to rock!

I always get the pre-race nerves.  Someday I might get them to go away, but I doubt it.

Artemis - 2010-04-30 11:14 AM Judy, is your ankle doing any better today?  Hope so and you can go to your camp this weekend!

it's the knee and yes it's better.  i'm at the tri camp, today was the first day.  mostly seminars but we did do a short run.  i wore my knee brace and did fine.  i'm gonna ice it and put the brace back on and i think i'll be fine.  they know i have limitations and are being really good about that.

Good luck on your race tomorrow Nicole!  I'm sure you WILL kick butt on that bike!

I have my first sprint tri scheduled for tomorrow also... but not only do I have pre-race nerves... I am TOTALLY freaked by our rotten weather!!  It is a mix of snow and rain today and calling for the same tomorrow!!  (will be minus something with the windchill) And honestly.... I have never even trained in those conditions!  I just got my bike... so riding in rain... never even done it!  Let alone know how to begin to dress for this thing now!  So along with having be sick the past week.... I scared to death of tomorrow... not the way I wanted to go into my first tri .... but I guess I need to look at it as if I can do this one.... how much worse can any of the others be???
Anyone have any advise on how to dress for this??  I am thinking that riding it should be done fairly cautiously... so there will be no butt kicking done here..... I just want to get 'er done.... safely!!

Consider your first tri to be a learning experience and take it easy in the rain, especially if you're not used to that. Take your time in T1 and put on tights and some long sleeve top(s); a head covering under the helmet would probably be prudent, too.

How much time have you done on this bike?

Good luck and enjoy the experience.

I've picked up my packet, put the stickers on the bike and my helmet, checked out the race site, and driven the bike route. The bike route is oh so flat, sooo much flatter than what I train on. I hope to be able to go FAST!

I was told that the water is up to 71F!

The race season starts tomorrow!!!! :D

Thanks for the info/advise Nicole!  Thanks to our great weather I don't have much time on this bike at all - about 9 hours in total and 170ish klms.  Most of my riding has been on a spin bike because you (well most people) just can't ride outside here on a road bike before April - and April has been so crappy.  And I don't have a trainer yet so, yes - time on this bike is definately limited.  So I will definately be taking it easy - and go for a learning experience.  I won't be the only one in the same situation - so we'll all have fun fun fun together!!!

Sounds like it's shaping up to be a great day for you tomorrow -  HAVE A GREAT RACE!!!! Can't wait to hear about it!

I'm waiting on the official results from today's Aquabike race. I forgot to start my watch so I have no idea what my swim or T1 time was. No panic at all on the swim, so that was good. T1 felt slow. I got my butt kicked on a totally flat bike route; wasn't expecting that. The route went through the pine forests of southern NJ, and all the pines picked this weekend to pollenate; the air was so thick with the stuff that we all ended the ride yellow. It was on your lips every time you licked them and it was wreaking havoc with my contact lenses; it's hard to bike your hardest when your eyes are tearing and feel like they are filled with grit.

They posted total-time results at the race and I was 5/5 for Aquabike women :(

Well congratulations on finishing! Even though you didn't do as well as you hoped, you didn't have a DNS/DNF so that's positive in itself! I have talked to a couple people from Knoxville (very hilly area) about how I thought their bike would be crazy fast for a flat Florida course, and they actually said it was really difficult to maintain a steady pace because of all the up-down training they do. I thought that was an interesting tidbit. Maybe your next race will be hilly and you'll kick all the flat bike training people's butts! Keep up the hard work!

So I've been having issues with my leg again (left leg this time), and I've scheduled a DR appt for tomorrow. Really concerned about what is going on. Luckily (I think), it doesn't feel like a stress fracture, but more like I have tendonitis or something along those lines. Please keep your fingers crossed that this won't put me off training. I just started training for an OLY and that would be a huge set-back for me. *Sigh*

The race went great - and yes... I managed to stay warm thanks to suggestions I took to heart!  My T1 and T2 were pretty pathetic as I took the time to dry off a bit and then put on tights and layers etc.... but it was sooooo worth it!  Then of course some of it had to come off before the run... so was pretty funny!  But I felt great, and learned a lot and am looking forward to doing another one! Wooohooo.... I see how people get addicted to this. (even if I was a complete mess the day before and even the morning of the race! )
I finished 41/69 people doing the sprint distance, 2/9 in my age group, and 10/30 in women overall.  So I'm pretty happy with that.

Good job on fighting thru the elements Nicole!  It sounds worse than the cold I had to deal with - number one because we could prepare for it, and 2 well - it just sounds nasty!
Thanks for your advise on what to wear - it helped -- a lot!!

I just started training for an OLY and that would be a huge set-back for me. *Sigh*

Hope they can figure out what is going on and that it is not too serious.

Congratulations!! Very well done!
