Reece: What has been the average water temperature at Kansas 70.3? I know it's been wet suit legal, but do you think the swim could be done without a wet suit? I swam in the swimming area in 2011, and it seemed fine to me, but maybe it is different out where the race is swum?

Nobody get any ideas. I'm just curious right now.

Hey everybody, Felicia's thinking about signing up for IMKS 70.3 Whoohoo!

Last two years the day before the race the water temp was 80 degrees.  Miraculously the water temp reduced to 78 degrees in 2011 and decreased to 76 degrees this past summer.  Amazing isn't it!  It's usually warm and for some can get a little hot in a full sleeve wetsuit.  It can definitely be done without a wetsuit.   The swimmer from my relay team wore speedo briefs in this years race.  I bought a two piece DeSoto which I love because I can just wear the bottoms and that give me good body position in the water and by not having the top, I stay nice and cool and transition is not too time consuming.  When it's wetsuit legal, I would say at least 80% are wearing one.  Too competitive not to for most.

Oh second epiphany of the week!

Just browsing the forums on here and was reading Athena/Clydesdale...got to thinking what constitutes an Athena - oh my God someone over 150lbs....well knock me down with a feather (or a large bowling ball perhaps) i am an Athena!!!!

Embrace the Greek Goddess within, I get below 150lbs maybe once a year but it's fleeting!

Oh that is exciting news...I may enter a race as one. If there aren't many of us i can get a top ten!

Awesome!  No wrist issues?

Rode my trainer so I could sit up.  Still having wrist issues.  Got one last cortisone shot before surgery that doesn't seem to be working.

DOOOEEEET  FELICIA!!!  SIGN UP FOR IRONMAN 70.3!!!

I'm doing much better on the motivation front at least I think.  Got a  trainer ride and a 4 mile run in yesterday, the dog is still sleeping from the run and the past adventures.  Sunday we ended up having 4 dogs and a baby over so he was exhausted by the time they left plus the running he doesn't want to get off the bed!  After this weekend I have a month off of work with only weddings to go to so I'm going to force myself into a routine since only training and studying for the GRE will be on my plate.

Still looking for a trainer to do a fitting but the plus side of my searching is I get to add another 200 to the bike fund.  Going to make contact with a fitter again today.

I will try to get some pace booty this weekend but it might look akward as I'll be working, people get weird looks if you just start taking pictures of them in uniform, who knew?Wink

Found my Halloween plans rUNDEAD  now I just need a costume.

I'm also missing my wedding rings.  Couldn't find them anywhere in the 45 minutes I looked.

Yup. My day too. I did keep trying but eventually gave up. "Eventually" meaning now, at 11:30pm. Don't make that mistake! Call it a wash and do what you wish! If you can.

That is one frustration with workplaces.  People feel like they shouldn't call in sick so they get everyone else sick. Sealed

BTW, I followed your blog in my newly aquired Google Reader and I love that you use Penzey's! I started getting my spices there when I lived in Omaha.  We don't have them in NM so I keep a list going for when I'm in Denver.

HAWT HAWT HAWT KIWIS!

Your new avvie cheered me up.

Y'know ... it was just that. A lousy day. Not bad, nothing really wrong ... just a lousy day where most of the occurrences were unfavorable and got worse with any of my attempts at intervention.

Or, as my friend Lew used to say, a King Sadim day. (MIDAS = SADIM) Everything you touch turns to shyte and you just can't seem to keep your hands off anything.

Speaking of spices ...

I did make an outstanding chicken stew for dinner.

- few tbsp olive oil
- 1 finely minced garlic clove
- pinch of rosemary
- 1-2tsp paprika
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1 tiny chicken broth cube (the ones in the U.S. are huge, use half or less)

Schoom all this together in a stewpot over med heat. When it's good and hot, add cubed chicken pieces (a pound or so of meat, I used boneless skinless breasts) and saute just a bit to coat the chicken. Add 1 can condensed cream of potato soup (or make your own salted roux with another broth cube if you want to be really cool) and 1 can milk (or milk substitute). Swirl together and bring to just under boiling and let it cook the chicken for another 15-20 min, covered. Check every few min to make sure it ain't burning. Add more salt, pepper, and paprika to taste, and even a sprinkle of nutmeg if you like.

It's nice having Jim around because he loves food in both quality and quantity and it sure ain't worth cooking just for me.
