I plan my first indoor tri in March,  but I tend to be a planner and a list maker. I keep trying to think of what I'd need at an indoor tri, not to take too much but not to need something and not have it.

So, to those of you who may have done one, what did you take ?...did it work out for you or do you wish you had something else with you that maybe you did not have ?

After the swim, that will be a horrible 10 minute transition....... I have to get out of my swim suit (like wrestling a boa constrictor)......then put on my last resort bra (11 hook and eyes up the FRONT)....  all while I am still kinda damp ?........SO NOT GONNA BE FUN !  lol

So here is my list and I hope it's ok  to do this.

SWIM: swim suit, goggles, swim cap ear plug L ear/  Towel    Bike: bra/tank top/capri pants/socks/running shoes  hat 'cuase hair will look horrible !  towel while on bike/water bottle  run...same as bike

Is there any way you can swim in a sports bra? There is nothing said that you have to swim in a swim suit. You could always swim in the clothes you will wear for the rest of the race. I wear a shirt with a bra built in and tri shorts under a wet suit for regular races. I did a reverse, with the swim last, I just jumped in the pool in the same outfit that I wore for the rest of the race. No one really cares what you wear in the water!

I swim in my sports bra! I wear it under my tri top (i don't like the trisuit i have because of the back zipper:hard to manage when you have to pee before the race starts so i wear a tri top and shorts combo. It is a "Champion" bra with underwire. The fabric dries fast and, with a little bodyglide,:no chaffing! Hope this helps.

that pee thing can be a BIG hassle when in a tri suit...guess since I only used it in two races...I was fortunate and did not have to pee til after...thank goodness! it is not the easiest to get in and out of....talk about pouring yourself into something! and lord knows that I prayed that the seam would not give out...cuz then it would be not very pretty! in fact it would be rather ugly!

my tri suit zipps up the front, and i always pee in the water (always open water! LOL) before the race starts. LOL i wear a sports bra under it, but my sports bra is a joke. i definately need a new one! LOL i have a pic of me about a hundred yards from the finish line, and my sports bra had pretty much given out. LOL i think it's in my album. i can't remember. it's not extra flattering anyway.

OK, so i ran. i went large today. i'm feeling some serious pain about now. LOL i did about 9.5 and that's pretty much going to be my limit for at LEAST two weeks. i'm toast!! the first mile and a half were gritting my teeth trying to get warm, the last 8 miles was pretty much just keep moving forward despite the pain. my hips are bugging, and i have a question.....
my second toe on both feet, my "mort" if you will. totally purple. both of 'em. and they hurt like nobody's buisness. i have been icing both of them since my last long run, it's painful! does anyone else have issue with the mort? i KNOW i need new shoes, but i've never had this problem before. well, i guess i've never run this kind of mileage before either. what do you guys think?

oh I forgot...your toe thingy....

if your toes touch the front of the shoe, they might be too small even if they feel fine. your foot can slide a little forward during the footstrike and bang the front of the shoe. so it helps to have room up there but with the shoe snug enough in your forefoot so it only has minimal slide. the other typical cause is downhill running. toes just keep banging the front of the shoe on every step. any chance you're running a lot of downhills?
they sell little silicone toe caps. you could try those. i've seen them on the road runner sports website.

purple toes!!! dang...you be careful....are you sure you are not icing them too much!??

I've got the SportCount, the 90040 that only counts laps. I've been using it for more than a year so I'm completely used to it nd it doesn't bother me at all. I swim with this on my right index finger and a watch on my left wrist. I love my toys and my data.

Hi Lyssa.  Definitely get new shoes and check on the size as someone else mentioned (best if you know a store where they can fit you and they know what they're doing).   If you are doing lots of downhill and your shoes are a little small, that will do it.   I had the problem on my right foot once - my second toe on my right foot is longer than the big toe (left foot is the other way around for some reason).   Moving up half a size worked for me.

Julie IN- I agree with the others that you should wear your sports bra, you will have to in open water, so you need to get used to it. Like was said before have extra goggles and swim cap, just in case, get up early and eat and have your daily constitution before you get to the race, you may have to go again there (ok you guys know its' true get used to going with other in the room....or lining up at the porta potties....it's going to be happening, it's just part of it. Eat properly for the race, experiment and find out what works best for you, I love chocolate outrage GU. Enjoy your first tri, there is nothing like it, have a smile on your face the entire race, you deserve it.

Nicole - thinking of your family today.

Lyssa- your a running animal, how does the body feel today?

Jules-you always know how to cheer me up...Thanks

I will have took look at the rest of the group logs to catch up today at lunch time...I'm looking forward to it

As for me today I feel better than yesterday. Julie knows I freaked out yesterday when my daughter was sent for a blood test by her college running coach...the Dr. also noticed swollen lymp nodes and a heart murmer...so she is my baby and it scared me to death....I'm praying about it and will put my worries in the Lords hands. I will let you know how the tests come back.

My Dr. called me last night to check in on me and said he wants me to take my heart rate today before exercise and then 5 min. after exercise...it is going to hit 50 here today (heat wave), so I think I would like to get on my bike and enjoy a ride...ride away my concerns...so that's the plan.

Did I say I like you group!? If not. I like you

Way to go on the run, Alyssa! You really seem to upping the mileage lately, so do take care that you don't injure yourself (ok too late for the toes but that shouldn't be due to the mileage).  I read that you are 'moving forward despite the pain. my hips are bugging' and it just sends off alarms. Your long runs should increase no more than 10% each time and be done at an easy pace. Some say that you should feel good enough to go back out and do half the distance.

I too have two looooong second toes and my right foot is also slightly larger than my left. It's a good thing that you are due for new shoes as my guess is that it should do the trick. Ensure that you go to a running store where they can do a proper fit and evaluation of your running style. Bring in your current pair as the wear pattern will give them some info too. Show them your poor toes and they will take care of the rest.

When I first started putting on mileage I had just picked up some random pair of Adidas that I thought looked cool from the local sports store. I ended up injured since I was running in a neutral shoe though I needed a stability shoe which lead me to get properly fitted for shoes and orthotics. All was well until a few years ago when the last 2 miles of a marathon, my feet start tingling. I mentioned it to the running store guy and he asked when the last time I had my feet measured? I think my response was when I was 17 and my feet stopped growing. Anyhoo turns out, I am in need of D width shoes in addition to another 1/2 size. No issues since but I do make sure that every now and again, I do get measured.

Treat your feet well; they take the force of something like 2.5 times your body weight when you run.

I hope you get lots of good news today and get in a lovely ride. Good thing you're not riding here- the winds are gusting 40-60kph and the windchill is supposed to be -20C, tomorrow -30C. Yikes! I guess that's why they call it winter!

P.S. I think I can comfortably speak for the group and say we like you too! Kiss

I might have to look into getting a lap counter. Anything over 10 laps and I'm just guessing. I might have to bring my toes into the equation, just so I can get up to 20.:-)

Of course that would mean I would have to get back in the pool. It's been a few months.

I think my response was when I was 17 and my feet stopped growing. Anyhoo turns out, I am in need of D width shoes in addition to another 1/2 size. No issues since but I do make sure that every now and again, I do get measured.

Treat your feet well; they take the force of something like 2.5 times your body weight when you run.

yeah, yesterday was PROBABLY overdoing it a bit. my intentions were to go out and do 8 miles. 7.5 in to it, i just kept going. it definately wasn't brilliant. LOL i'm not sure WHAT is going on with my hips, it's kind of hip-flexor area, and the left is worse than the right, but i'm not really sure how to stretch this area (although i've tried many different stretches) i'm not really sure how to strengthen this area except to try to keep going (??) maybe this isn't a good plan

according to my new plan, i'm off today (oh thank the Lord!!) and i have 5 miles with intervals tomorrow (might bump that back to the end of the week, and do my "easy" run tomorrow, which i think was only two or three miles)

I might have to look into getting a lap counter. Anything over 10 laps and I'm just guessing. I might have to bring my toes into the equation, just so I can get up to 20.:-)

Of course that would mean I would have to get back in the pool. It's been a few months.

maybe we can get a discount on a group of the counters!? that way you can free your hands and toes up for that great catch you will be doing in the water. and I will go swim if you go! I have been putting it off too! deal???

lyssa-gator - 2009-01-21 6:35 PM my tri suit zipps up the front, and i always pee in the water (always open water!

I ended up injured since I was running in a neutral shoe though I needed a stability shoe which lead me to get properly fitted for shoes and orthotics. who says thats easy (two or three miles) maybe for our she-stud gal...I am going to be starting from square one when I do get to run again...so, like Yvonne said...take it easy...not sure which muscle you are speaking of...but you may try icing and taking aleeve and or glucosamine...do you have any at home or do I need to throw some in your box I am mailing tomorrow? have a great day off Allyssa. I am going to see if I see that super hottie naked guy at my pool. Didnt you say he would be there today???

I'm in again today

I've also had a sore hip flexor, on the left only, on and off for about a year and it is difficult to stretch.  My PT gave my a ball on a stick that I lay on...get that ball right in there and then I can either roll myself around on it or move it with the stick (I usually just roll on it.  If I use all my weight it can get pretty deep into the muscle)...it's maybe a little smaller than a tennis ball and kind of hard.  I also have a machine at the gym that I've been using to strengthen it.  You have a pad on your quad that you lift up after setting the weight and angles and stuff.  I've also just put an ankle weight on at home and lifted my leg up in front of me, but the machine at the gym is more fun in my opinion

Sorry to hear of the tough times some of you are going through.  I'm thinking of you.

I used to use a rolling pin (ouch!) until I got one of those water noodles that kids use in the pool (since I'm too cheap to buy the stick or rollers)
