I got to use this at work today:

It's a high frequency generator that produces a spark at the end of an electrode that is used to test for vacuum inside of sealed glass tubes.

We call it the Zapper

ebshot - 2009-06-26 6:24 AM Hey guys. I tried to run this morning. Really, I did. Twice even. BUT, I think I have poison ivy and it was WAY to uncomfortable to run. I thought if I changed my clothes it would help but it didn't. So, I got up at 5:00 for nothing. I hope it is gone enough to let me run soon. I only have 3 more miles to go!!!!!

OH NO! That is terrible. I might get the poison ivy just because I read this post! I am so allergic to it. I have to take prednisone a couple times a year for poison ivy. I've had to cancel a couple of races because of it, too. Erica, just do a mile a day until you are done!

The coach will think I am a slacker

It's kind of hard to consider you a slacker when you're racing every weekend

Talking of racing, my tri Saturday is in a outdoor pool. 100 yards x 50 yards, I wonder how they will handle this. It's 3 times around the pool and one length

Have a great race!

I never thought I was allergic to it. This is a first for me. I've had it for 5 or so days. If it doesn't go away by Sunday, I'll be going to the doctor on Monday. It really sucks. But, it is a great exercise in self restraint! No scratching for me!! I'm doing really well!

Corticosteroid pills definitely cut down the recovery time. My brother's new house in upstate NY has a ton of it in big scary healthy vines growing up a couple trees in his yard and doesn't know how to get rid of them. Got covered on a 1/4 of his body cleaning the yard before he realized.

Toasted Peanut Butter Banana Sandwich

  • 2 slices whole wheat bread
  • 1 medium banana
  • 1 or 2 Tbsp natural peanut butter
OK, I have to admit.... I've never eaten peanut butter & banana....

What?!?!? PB and nanners is seriously one of the best combos on earth! A drizzle of honey makes it even better.

Have you tried it with Almond Butter? I can't believe that since you mentioned it in Hyannis (wait, I *think* that was you!), I still haven't tried Almond Butter. I'm going to look for some in the store tomorrow.

The best way I've had it is sort of like a grilled cheese with the bread buttered and toasted in a pan, banana raw. Natural PB is really good with a drizzle of honey. YUM! You can just toast the bread and it's good like that too, and healthier I do this with english muffins before a long ride sometimes, it's heavenly.

LOL, yes that was me, I'm Almond Butter obsessed! I bought a jar the first day I arrived here in Madison and have consumed over half already I have had bananas with almond butter and it's delish. I actually don't eat PB much anymore unless I'm traveling and need to carry unperishable Jif with me.

LazyMarathoner - 2009-06-26 8:58 AM Morning tasers. I slept in, all the way to 7:30, and boy did that feel amazing! I love Fridays off. I'm heading out in a bit for a 5 mile run, then will drive to a nearby lake for a long open water swim. Today is a light day in prep for the big day tomorrow - full IM course ride with a 7 mile brick run. Gulp.

7:30 is sleeping IN??????????

Sadly 6 is usually sleeping in. IM training changes your idea of what a normal hour of the morning is and I hate mornings. I'll be up at the blissful hour of 4 tomorrow morning. Good times!!!!

Got 5 miles in so I'm at 76.05 miles against a goal of 80 so I'll make it! Saturday's brick is 7 miles. It's a good thing since I think Monday and Tuesday will be light days and may not have running.

Morning folks. Just got done with my morning run. My first long one in a while. Did 7.03 miles to give me 44.7 for the month. That's right 44.7 out of my goal of 45. Or 99.33% of what I need to do to finish. Why did I stop at 99.33%? I don't know, I guess i'm STUPID thats why. For cripes sake I could have run out to the car and got that but NO I'ma gonna make a special training session just so I can do that .3 miles.

Yuk - yuk - yuk. Har dee har har.

Have a great day everyone.!

Don't forget to stock up on fluid for the .3 mile run

Good job on reaching your goal for the month, well almost!

Thanks for the advice. I've got a 4 bottle hydration- belt just for this run. I have been wondering, I have these gels I take for longer run for extra energy. At what point do you think I should take one on this run? Is one gel enough?

HARD CORE is what that is!

I've made it up for a few 5:30am rides and swims with a local group... but working my way toward pre-work training little by little. I have yet to get training before 6:30 on my own!

My BF is a late night/late sleeper kind of guy, and I need to just get over that and not try to keep up with him.

A general rule of thumb for gels is one per hour if you're drinking sports drink and maybe every 45 minutes if you're only having water. You have to be careful you don't put too much carbohydrate in your system, there is a limit each of us has (that is unique based on sweat rate, metabolism, etc.) and if you exceed it you get the lower GI issues so many runners complain about. I will have only one gel during something like a half marathon and sometimes I can't tolerate any and will just drink Gatorade instead.
