TriAya - 2010-10-15 9:37 PM What? Huh? Yes. I'm incensed but I shoulda had low expectations to begin with.

It's always bad when you have to give the doc a pharmacology briefer on common antibiotics, CBC values, and Widal test results.

I'm so sorry Yanti. I wish there was something we could do for you.
One thing I learned during my travel days for work is that we are very lucky in North America to have the medical system that we do. I have been to hospitals in third world countries for medical care and it is not fun. I have also been to the doctor and to hospitals in England and I was surprised at the level of care there as well. Sure they have some nice hospitals but the only nice one I went to was a private hospital for the very rich. The regular hospitals I went to, thank goodness just to visit friends, weren't up to par with the typical hospitals here in the US.

While I was in Beijing I walked by a hospital on my way to the school I taught at every day. There was always a big line up outside of the hospital, sometimes visbibly injured (like the guy holding gauze to a bleeding extremity) waited.

Goodmorning/evening Ghoulie Crushers!

I am locked and loaded heading out very shortly for another long run. Doing only the scheduled 9km today with no victory lap, in hopes that doing so will prevent further injury.

Have a great weekend! But as you all know, I'll be around.

It looks like everyone is off having a busy weekend. (I would be but husband had to work today.)

I just finished my run and there seems I seem alright although I feel really rickety in the knees and feet at the 7km point. Just in case I had an icebath when I got home. Hoping for no post-exercise swelling!

I just bought The Triathlete's Training Diary (Joe Friel - author of awsome resource Triathlete's Training Bible) and The Anatomy Of Stretching (Brad Walker). They arrive here within 3 to 9 business days!

I love resource books.

Looking for opinions on ice baths and showers...

After a workout I want a shower, but after longer workouts (long for my experience level) when I want to chill my legs I'm not sure the best way to deal with both. If I shower first I am allowing for the post-exercise swelling to set in, but if I chill first I reheat my legs/feet with the showering. The best answer I have come up with is to chill first, then have a fast luke warm shower so that my legs don't get heated too much. Any thoughts?

Not prom, homecoming.....
Yes, we found dresses.  First store had limited selection and the younger Thing had a problem finding something that didn't look like lingerie on her.  Older Thing found her dress there.  Then we stopped cause I needed to get shoelaces for my husbands dress shoes.  Another stop for dryer sheets I was out of.......gas in the car........to the mall.  The store we went to has recently been renovated so finding things was a hassel......she's taking pictures of the dresses as she tries them on and texting them to her boyfreind for his approval.  Finds a dress.......then we go buy appropriate bras......the manager at VS forgot to take the security things off the bras so I have to take them back to the mall when I go swim.  I fel like I have been going nowhere today.

I have taken a short ice bath followed by a shower which isn't as warm as my usual shower.  The ice bath is really effective, even when followed by the shower.

Hey mbasta - like the costume!  Are you going to run any races in it or just go bar hopping/parties?

I am running a 5km race on Oct 30th that isn't Halloween themed and I thought it would be fun to come dressed up anyway. I haven't decided on what to do yet. Bar hopping and partying is go! House party on the Friday, bar hopping in Toronto on the Saturday.

Melissa - awesome-o costume!
I have to go shopping this afternoon for bits and pieces for a 90s costume...
Was thinking Shania Twain but I couldnt find enough leopard print material last weekend, so possibilities right now are a Gladiator, Nancy Kerrigan (with crutches etc), Trinity from the Matrix, possibly Unma Therman from Pulp Fiction....

Also, thanks for all the good luck wishes for the fight - I drew Undecided

She had had a lot more fights than me but I was lacking a bit of confidence I think and gave her a bit more space than I should have.

Anyway, I guess it means I am still undefeated!

For my strength today I am helping a friend move (lots of repetitive heavy lifting sounds like strength training to me). Is this acceptable or no?
