bill2059 - 2012-10-02 8:40 PM 2696! Friday am swim sounds great! Time and location? May have missed it in the nervousness. Saw my Spine and Joint doc for my ankle, he is referring me to a sports doc for ultra sound and maybe a cort shot. Hope he can get me running again - hate to come all this way just to walk the run.

8am thursday and friday on the boardwalk behind board walk beach hotel

Bib 1013 - No turning back now!! Regarding long run/ride order. I always do run Sat/ride Sun following Gale Bernhardt's (former USA triathlon Olympic coach) plans. I definitely think it helps keep injuries at bay and I'm recovered and ready for a hard workout by Tues. Added bonus is I run them with my local running club which is a nice change from all my other solo workouts.I have swimmer's ear, talk about painful!! Just got drops from dr. and ordered not to swim until healed. Anyone ever try earplugs? I figure I can stay out of water for a week, but beyond that, better or not, I'm not sure I will be able to follow dr.s orders.

You're still trail running? I quit walking around the house barefoot two weeks ago cause I'm scared I am going to stub my toe.  Next week I plan on wearing my bike helmet everywhere but to bed.

Now that's funny! Almost spit my coffee out.

Hey Guys - I know it's been covered but I can't find it.  What is the best way for friends and family to track me real-time on the course?  Trying to make sure they don't spend too much time sitting around waiting to catch me at T1/T2 and the run turn.  Thanks and thanks for all the advice you guys post.  I can already tell you that you have all saved me from making a ton of mistakes

Quick question about staying at the Majestic...

Since the race start/transition is about a mile or so away from the Majestic, do I need to rent a car while I'm in town?

Also, has anyone stayed at the Majestic before?  If so, how is it?  It looks nice from its website.

Thanks.

Have them download Irontrac app.  It crawls the IM site.

I hesitate to ask this question:

Anyone besides me interested in a BT IMFL T-shirt?

We got them in 08 and 10, and they help with identifying other BT members, and it's a really cool souvenir.

Anyone interested in organizing the order?

2010 looked like this:

T- shirt back

T-shirt Back

Front logo (BT logo is the dot in the M-dot)

Front t-shirt

I've PM'd Jay who did these for us in 2010 and 2008, but have not heard back from him.

Look up track my athlete or myathlete.com...they rent GPS units and assign you a website that will track you in real time.  It works bettero nthe bike than on teh run esp if, like me, you are a SLLLOOOWW runner

I stayed at the majestic two years ago when I did Gulf Coast Triathlon.  Like you said it is not that far.  If you want to get out around town I would definately get a car.  If you just want to chill at the condo, go up to walmart and get some groceries you could catch a cab.  For race day it wouldn't be worth it for your family if you have any with you.  They would have to park at walmart and then still walk close to 1/2 mile and the traffic on Front beach road will be crazy race day.

I am getting excited for all of you. I raced IMFL last year as my first and only IM. I will be volunteering at the finish line from 3-6 on race day so I can get registered for 2013.

I remember the excitement and nervousness as we got within one month of race day. I monitored this site a lot because there are some veterans who really gave some great advice.

Here's a couple pieces of advice I have:

1) There have been several questions about the swim. If you can do the distance in the pool, you will be fine in the Gulf. I used to be a horrible swimmer. I worked very hard to become a better swimmer. I actually remember tearing up on my way back to the shore on my 2nd loop because I had worked so hard training for the swim and now it was almost over (most previous races I just couldn't wait to get the swim completed).

The prerace swims should calm a lot of your nerves. I know I did not swim a long distance but I did get in the water and swim out from shore. I just took the time to float in the water and calm my nerves. It was actually very peaceful. You will be surprised how buoyant you are in a wet suit and salt water. I joke around with people saying I was so buoyant that I couldn't drown if I were trying to.

2) As I packed up my gear for the trip to PCB, I separated my equipment into different trash bags. I used the white kitchen bags so I could write on the outside of the bag with a marker. I separated it out just like I was packing my transition and special needs bags. When I got to PCB and received me my official bags all I had to do was transfer the contents from each bag. This helped save a lot of stress and 2nd guessing.

Jasha I love the idea of the shirts I just don't have time to organize it.  The poor guy who did organize it last time ended up not being able to do IMFL that yeaer because of an injury and honestly I don't know what happened to him after that

Hi All,

Its been a while, work is killing me. I've been reading through the thread since my last post:

- I'm in for swimming on Friday, like others, I will be arriving Thursday early but with all check-ins and what-nots, Friday will be the day for the swim.

- Bib 1402!!!! My home address is 1422, so close :p

- I typically have my long run early on Saturday's and then go right into the pool for a work out. Works with my life, since my wife loves to sleep in and then get to the pool around 11 instead of 9. I also find that a pool workout after running helps the legs.

Work has been kicking my butt this last week and with the added mileage, my body is pretty tired. My week day workouts haven't been as heavy in preparation for the longer ones on the weekend. Work should be slowing down after tomorrow so I should have a few good "hard" weeks before the 2 week taper.

31 DAYS!

If we are planning some sort of BT meetup for the practice swim, do we need to have some identifier? Name tags maybe?

Ha!  you'd be surprised.  There are a lot of folks out.

Last year we met up by the Boardwalk.  If you are facing the hotel from the water I think we met up on the left.  There is a little deck up there.  Got our suits on, took a picture then headed to the water.

enjoy,

Duane

Where does the BT underpants run start from?  What date / time?

Holy cow am I kidding; although it seems like a fun tradition at Kona.

13 mile run this morning, 3700 yard swim at lunch.  This is starting to feel like IM training.

Weather here this weekend: cold front forecast  winds on Saturday 22 mph, which means 25-30 gusts to 40.  Tomorrow's supposed to be nice, but I'm toast after two long runs this week.

Here's a suggestion: if we all change our avatar to a recognizable face shot, then when we get to PCB, we'll be able to recognize each other from our BT picture.
