Man I have 5 vacation days to burn before Christmas and I need to come up with an idea of where to go or what to do with them.

That or I lose them. So glad I get 3 weeks of vacation and they kept turning down my vacation requests all summer.

Every Friday off until Christmas.  It's a popular way to use up the remaining vacation days around my office.  This place becomes quite the ghost-town on Fridays this time of year!

Yeah, but you're in San Diego.  He has to get the heck out of Canada and see the sun.

Discovered by the Germans in 1904, they named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina.

No, there's no way that's correct.

I'm sorry, I was trying to impress you. I don't know what it means. I'll be honest, I don't think anyone knows what it means anymore. Scholars maintain that the translation was lost hundreds of years ago.

Doesn't it mean Saint Diego?

No. No.

No, that's - that's what it means. Really.

Agree to disagree.

It was actually named for Saint Didacus (true story)...

Still discussing co-workers bunking on work trips. I'm just replying now to get a rise out of this guy. BT has taught me well.

But seriously - the guy said "Humans are social creatures and we use to sleep in caves with the whole tribe. I agree it can be uncomfortable if we are not use to doing that and if we are not professional at all times, but that is a change manangement and personal growth issue."

With some fear of sending us off into car-talk land. I just thought I'd mention that Formula 1 is coming to town next week and the traffic has gotten worse.

They're shutting several streets (including the streets leading to my office) next Thurs and Friday so I have no idea how we'll get to the office (I'll probably ride my bike).  They have some fanfest thing downtown.  That's why they're shutting it.

Ugh. I even posted an article from the Society of Human Resource Professionals or whatever... that whole industry says it's a no-no due to employee morale issues.

I mean I don't want my co-workers seeing me in my pajamas, brushing my teeth, taking medication, etc...! And I sure as hell don't want to see them doing that either! Gross.

For men, probably not as big of a deal, but for women, a generational difference would be a huge thing to overcome in that situation.

I mean a younger woman like youself sharing with an older woman would probably be really uncomfortable.

 ETA: Toppage Woo Hoo!!!

And ETA: You should be careful, this could be a whole HR trap.  Seeing as how poorly your company did financially last week, they could be trying to get you to say "I don't want to bunk-up with X, she's X."  Next thing you know, they have you for workplace discrimination.

It's a TRAP!

I sort of like the idea of everyone coming to work in PJ's as a form of protest.

Has this been picked up by news outlets in the area?  This is ready made for "investigative reporting"?  Jon Stewart would be my go to guy in the media for this story.

Keep a file of all the posts.

Jim. Why is getting anything done in Vegas so difficult?

I wanted to book reservations at the Japanese restaurant but I had to call the `group reservations number' so I did. She took down all my info and is giving it to a representative who will e-mail me the details on what needs to be done and how much of a DEPOSIT I have to put down to make the reservation. OK. Fine. Whatever.

Next I am trying to book the VIP at the club your wife suggested. I was put in touch with the group reservation person who took down all my information. She got it all then emailed `J Ray' who is supposed to contact me with more details and how much he nees for a DEPOSIT!

OK so ... I've talked to people at both places and don't yet have a single reservation. How is this possible?

Also nobody returns phone calls or emails. Is this pretty standard?

We need to come-up with a cover story for you so you can get a VIP Hostess like in the movie Oceans 12 or was it 13?

We'll tell them you own all the air in the Kyoto Province...

Then you gotta have a private plane drop you off on the runway.  May be an expensive way to get reservations, but it'll be worth it...

I don't know.  To be honest, we always sort of go where we know people, or get invited.  I'm not sure if we ever tried to get a SPECIFIC spot at a place we didn't know anyone already.  The wife's network is super extensive - otherwise, I'm pretty useless.

PM me the club and the Japanese place.  Tala will be home in a couple hours and I can see if she knows a manager or someone there we can call to get your name on a reservation WITHOUT a deposit.

BUT, I see why they are the way they are.  People are SUPER flighty when they get to vegas.  They book reservations all over town and then get too drunk to show up and the club is sort of stuck.  Not that they can't get it sold quickly again.  But now they get paid twice.  And in terms of rushing to get back to you, they really don't have to.  Demand is so high, they don't care if they offend or show poor service.  Someone is always in line.

Sucks though.  Once you are IN the place, service is awesome.

So it sounds like he's cool with you guys putting him up in a cave then?

Sounds like you just found his new nickname "CAPTAIN CAAAAAAAVEMAAAAAAAAAAN!!!"

What the he-- is "Change Management".  If someone used that around my work, I believe they'd get their azz kicked.

That could really put a damper on room porn purchases.  If not?  Well, just ew....

Welcome to the party Buzz Killington.

*like*

Yeah I guess I understand the deposit but I am really fed up with poor customer service. I've been getting it a lot lately and am SICK of it!!! RAWR!
