Not much to report here on the left coast, mbt ride Monday was fantastic and no crashes. I managed a 5 mile run last night and today might be pool at lunch and working from home after....

Master 2436 Apex, north carolina | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I was watching the olympic triathlon highlights on my computer last night and decided that is the way to race. There were only 50 some athletes therefore no washing machine swim, fantastically open trasition areas, and they could DRAFT!! But I guess if I could go those speeds I would have a clear swim and empty transition too. Ever get the feeling you are making great progress and then you see someone else's training log and are totally deflated? I think I need to stop reading the logs of people training for a HIM!! It's not the distances the do, it's the speeds! These guys (and that is my first mistake, I am comparing myself to guys) are running sub 7 minute miles for 10+ miles, 23+ mph on hilly bike routes, and swimming 1min20sec/100yds rates. Holy fastness! And if any of you can go that fast, then I hate you too |

Holy fastness! And if any of you can go that fast, then I hate you too Well Tracy, some people are freaks. The only way I would ever be able to reach those speeds is being chased by a bear. On the flip side of the male/female thing and feeling deflated. There is a gal here in my office that I train with occasionally. She's done three races, two of them the same as mine. The first one I was 4 minutes faster than her, but she finished 3rd in AG and 15th overall. I was 7th/9th?? and 46th. In the last one, she beat me by two minutes (stupid swimming to the wrong buoy). She was 10th overall and 2nd AG. I was 50th and 13thAG. So with similar times, she's getting awards and I'm just tired. |

On a side note, I had mentioned that I started taking Iodine suppliments a few weeks ago. I feel fantastic! My energy level is so much better. And it's not that hyper feeling, rather it is very refreshed like a full meal and a good night's sleep. I'm sure in 5 years some doctor will find a link between Iodine and cancer, but until then I'm going to enjoy the feeling. Edited by tahrens 2008-08-20 12:34 PM |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL I'm just grinding away here. I like the Ironman 20 week program much better than the HIM 20 week program. So I am doing it instead. My actual workouts were closest to the week 6 mark so I jumped in at week 6 and am on week 7 now (14 hours this week). For the first time ever I woke up at 5 something am to get in a longer workout before work. I am also flexing 5 hours a week to take better advantage of daylight hours, until there is no more daylight. I got my check from the bank for my home improvement (swimspa) and that will make swimming possible this winter, I hope it all comes together by early October, but I guess hope springs eternal. The spa will be fully built by mid September. The heat has dropped off for now and that is really nice for workouts. Lastnight there was a 20 mph wind for the bike ride which took a little off my speed. I am ambivalent about fitting in my first HIM at the end of the year and may just train straight through to next spring and do it then. My weekly long bike is 56 miles and long run is 13 miles, but I don't feel like I could run 13 after the bike. I could bike after the swim though. I tend to want to go into tri events strong in training for the distance, if not the speed. I am actually thinking about doing a full IM, but no idea how long it will take to get into that kind of shape (I was on the couch 10 months ago with no run, swim or bike history to speak of). I hear ya on the bedazzlement at how fast some folks are in tri's. In my Oly, the fastest guy finished in 2 hours flat. So he beat me by um 46 minutes. (swim speed 2.75-3mph, bike 25 mph average, run speeds like 5-6 min miles). I don't need to win any tri's, but I don't want to be walking any part of the run section either. |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Bah I got up at 5:30 am to get an 11 ish miles run in before work so I can get to the pool before it closes after work. I get there, the pool is closed again. They sent the lifeguard home a couple hours early oh just cuz. The other day they closed it because some kids were acting up in the pool. And best of all the pool closes until June in 1 week. Sigh this really blows my concept of universal self-centeredness, or does it? Ok rant over back to work. |

Expert 1231 B'ham | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL If there were a pool in my office building, I'd be one happy camper - though probably smell like chlorine 24/7. Baowolf - who runs the pool (city, private)? Seems like a little chat with the manager might be in order. If it is a public pool, there should be some accountability to the taxpayers that support it. |

Air temp was 48 degree's at 7:00am, and the water was actually warmer than the air! The Ironman vibe is in the air.... I am so excited to get this thing knocked, over, and move on! |

Elite 5316 Alturas, California | Subject: RE: swbkrun's group - FULL Sadly there will likely be a long lag between when my pool gets in and when the (hotel owned) pool closes next week. I am optomistically hoping for end of October, but.. ya never know with contractors in small towns. I did get a check from the bank for my loan so if he wants his money... he best get to doin some stuff. The town has had the building permit request for a week, but they may be um well throwing darts at it or something. They frown on anyone building anything up here, cuz of our huge population density of 10,000 in 10,000 square miles and all. Thats right we should each have our own square mile... My training is gona take a hit unless I kill myself on the weekends. (is a lake 70 miles away 1 way). Go rock that IRONMAN and post times and stuffs so we know how many years it will be before we can do one 8). <--- 3 hour bike ride is still long. |
