Hi All!  The nice weather has me thinking the convertible might need to take a spin outside of it's winter storage soon!  If it stays this warm I'm driving it to Hyannis in 10 days.

For today's challenge I would suggest my favorite pose/stretch is Child's Pose.  My low back is wicked tight after today's run and I am hoping that child's pose along with a cat stretch and forward fold will loosen things up.

I like childs pose too.  It's a good recovery move.

You all are so good about checking in on my log...you will notice that today, I ran for 18 minutes and walked for 12 (not counting WU and CD.) I mentioned in my log too how hard it was for me...I have never been athletic at all, and I can't believe how bad of shape I'm in. Anyway, what I want to know from you all is - Does it get any easier? When I started all this, I decided that I want to ENJOY running and biking; and while I am enjoying the idea and process of getting healthier, right now the actual workouts are HARD AND UNCOMFORTABLE! Do you just learn to LIKE that, or will it eventually be more comfortable for me...I mean, is it possible for someone with no athletic background to come to feel like a "natural" at these sports? Do y'all think I'm CRAZY?!?!?

Just keep at it Pam. Eventually you will get more energy from it. You will make progress. The beauty of starting if you are in fact out of shape is that you will see results continually for a long time.

Keep at it. Don't stop. None of this is natural, over time it becomes habit and becomes natural and you can't imagine going on without it.

Keep at it.

The simple answer ... yes ... it gets easier (and when it gets too easy you try something a little harder). And, no, you're not crazy.

I can honestly say that I started running in small bursts with a lot of walk breaks. It was hard and uncomfortable when I started out. I'd go out for a 45 minute walk/run and would spend more time walking than running and I flt very unathletic. You're doing great. Keep it up and things will likely start to be more comfortable ... maybe even natural.

You're doing a wonderful job, keep it up!

I am just going to Google stuff to find out how much fibre there is.....here all the packaged foods have the amount of fibre listed but I try not to eat too much processed stuff anyway...unless you count potato chips, for which I require a 12 step program!!

Try this site to figure out the fiber content: The Daily Plate   You can just search by food, or if you want to look at your diet altogether, it's got a good, FREE, food log that you can add to as you go.  (If you're thinking about making dietary changes, I'd suggest doing a log for a week -- VERY EYE OPENING!)

I didn't do so well on the water challenge (maybe 40-50 oz... all the rest was tea and juice), and I still owe a stretch or yoga move... but started off the fiber challenge with 4 grams in my oatmeal with a dash of VT maple syrup this morning.

Well, I talked with my 12 year old about yoga...he's taking it in PE at school.  So, I did a downward dog, and it felt good!  Then he had me do a crow or something.....down into a catcher's position (he's also a baseball player) and then pull my thighs up onto my arms and support/balance myself on my hands.  Well, you can probably see this one coming.  30 seconds later...thunk.  I was being careful, however, so I tucked my head and went into a little somersault.  What I forgot was that my glasses were on TOP of my head, and I landed on them from a height of, oh, 4 inches.  Nice gash on the top of my head.......bleeding took forever to stop, and I still have a headache 12 hours later.

I'm hoping that the fiber challenge is easier.

Oh Linda!! We were not supposed to sustain any bodily injuries with these challenges!!

Be CAREFUL with the fiber.....I think it too could have the potential to be dangerous !!!

Ouch. Although, holding the crow for 30 seconds, pretty impressive skills.

No, you're not crazy!! It does get easier. Just like with anything, it takes a while to acclimate to a new habit. Exercising is gonna take some getting used to and it will get easier. I remember my first "run" lasting oh, about 3 minutes and I was toast. Keep going and you'll see, it'll get easier and more enjoyable.

Running was something that I clicked with--but I come from a family of runners and it was a great stress relief after a lousy day at work.  Swimming has become something I clicked with once I got something to resemble form and stopped fighting with the coach cause now we understand each other.  It took a long time to fall in love with cycling. I hated it at first, even last year I had to mentally get over thinking of it as " the thing you do between swimming and running in a triathlon".  I am still not as fast as I would like to be across the board.  My saving gace is that this is my last year in this age group and I'll be moving to a smaller/less competitive one next season (2010)

Evening All!

Just stopping by before going to spin class tonight. Tonight we are doing Valentine's songs. I posted the playlist on my blog.  Monday will be love gone bad night- always way more fun to spin to fast tempo songs about revenge than sappy love songs.  I try not to be too sweet....

Didn't see the fiber challenge until just now but think I must have done well with steel cut oats & blueberries at breakfast and Lentil & Edamame stew for supper.  I will look it up.  Another great website is Calorie King for nutrition info.  The BT site here also links to the USDA site.

Be careful out there!

From the girl who bought a bike as an adult before she learnt to ride it I will say it DOES get easier!!!

If its really that hard you might benefit from mixing up you workouts so some days the intensity is super easy and other days are more challenging.... you cant go hard all the time!!!!

I always get a real buzz when I finish a workout but I cant say I always enjoy the process (at least not with the running thing)

I dont think you are crazy at all I have NO natural aptitude when it comes to running and no cycling background!!!

Oh and as it starts to feel *easier* you just find ways to make it more challenging

Hello all! OK I had me eyes opened big time today....after adding up my daily intake of fiber(not that I'm done eating yet...but there is no fiber in chips!!) I have come to the realization that I do not eat enough high fiber foods. I had :berries in my smoothie this morning, whole wheat bread at lunch, a home made oatmeal cookie packed with dates, an orange, tons of salad and a handful of raisins  ...you think that would be good right? Nope, only adds up to HALF the recommended amount!

Now if I sat down right now and had some All Bran I would have reached the right amount.....but I am having chips instead!

Anyway...this was a learning experience for me!
