I know we're getting close, I'm counting down just like the rest of you, but that question just turned my stomach. I don't want to think that we're close enough to have bib numbers just yet. I can't wait to hear what happens when your athlete packet shows up in the mail! what all comes in the athlete packet? |

Expert 696 Sugar Hill, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Only 5 training weekends left!! That is kind of exciting. Even more exciting, for me, one is a recovery week and one is a taper. I only have 3 more big weekends!! What's on tap for everyone this weekend? I've got 110 mile bike / 6 mile run on Saturday and a 80 minute OWS and 15 mile run on Sunday. Oddly, I'm getting really psyched for it. |

Took a half day today to get in Saturday's long bike as Friday I'm heading down to Paris to catch the end of the tour. Too bad I won't be seeing Lance up on the podium. Oh well, maybe we'll see him at an IM event next year! The ride went well, 106 miles in 5:32. Nutrition was great, but it was a nice cool day (75) and a flat stretch of road. Unfortunately no real heat or hill training where I live. Good luck to everyone this weekend. |

Extreme Veteran 331 Latonia, Kentucky (near Cincinnati) | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Ugh, life is making me change my schedule all around, so now I'm ending the week with a 16 mile run on Thursday, 40 mile ride Friday and then another 40 Saturday, then 80 mile ride on Sunday. I'm thinking my legs are gonna protest this one. Looking to go down to Louisville one more time to swim and ride...more of a confidence builder than anything else. Ye Ha! |

Expert 1149 CenTex | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread Had to have a chunk of skin removed that was pre-cancerous. They got it all but in the process I have 16 sub-cutaneous stitches and 17 on the surface, all on the widest part of my already freakishly large calves that have no spare skin. I wanted to put it off but Doc said that he did not recommend that I wait, even though he knew the impact to my training schedule. So, good news, it's all gone; bad news, training is in the toilet until Wednesday or Thursday of next week. I'm going to swim between now and then and do low impact work (treadmill on an incline) but it definitely puts a damper on the peak weeks. Oh well, I'll still make it to the line and still finish, that much I can control... (I hope.) Edited by cornchexs 2010-07-21 9:01 PM |

Expert 1010 Greer, SC | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I'm starting to freak out for an additional reason - I strained my calf last week while doing hill repeats on my bike. I've only gotten in one other good run since and had to cut that short because of the injury. I tried to work back into it yesterday by testing it with a short one mile run and it didn't feel too good at the beginning, but seemed to loosen up a bit towards the end. I'm going out for a little longer run this afternoon to see how it feels, but am getting a little freaked out. I have my longest run of my entire training plan scheduled next week, but am not really feeling very good about it. Do you think it would be okay to push it back a week and shorten my taper by a week? I really want to hit the 16-18 mile range, which 3 hours should get me right around 18, but just don't know if I can handle it. I might even try the run with my compression calf sleeve to see how it feels. I can understand why people say the hardest part is getting to the start line. Good luck to everyone else. Stay healthy! |

Regular 118 Marietta, GA | Subject: RE: Ironman Louisville : Official Thread I had to cut a long run a bit short this morning; everything was going fine until about mile 15 and then my knee started to get a bit "twingey". Due to too much time spent in the infantry and 15 years of mountain biking to boot, my knees have their own problems even when I am not training for an IM. So, I went ahead and cancelled the rest of my run instead of risking a knee issue. I don't know about anyone else, but getting this close to race day, I am getting just a wee bit paranoid about getting injured. Oh well, there is still the long ride on Sunday to look forward to. BTW, 37 days left in case anyone has lost count. |

Stay healthy! if you train through that injury, it's not going to get better. then, you're going to be trying to complete an ironman with a hurt calf. i think you need to rest it as much as possible. if you rest it, then your volume will be lower and i think you'll be ok with a shorter taper...just my opinion, though. no expert and have not done an IM yet...yet. |

According to your logs you have run 295 miles so far this year or about 40 miles per month. If that is true I wouldn't run 18 miles. You are already banged up and running close to half your monthly volume in one day is asking for more problems. I think you need to focus on getting healthy. That will have the biggest impact on your race.

That is true. I guess I never thought about it that way. I have been battling injuries beginning with AT in January to ITBS in April which delayed my run training 1 month. I finally felt like I was getting somewhere, then BANG. Here we go again. Thanks for the input and from you too Dood! |

Making up for it this weekend. Feeling good. No injuries, body just a little tired all over. Been doing two disciplines nearly every day with the exception of long run days.
