mallen4574 - 2012-06-01 9:29 PM Big workout tomorrow. Gonna try a metric ironman. 1.7 mile swim, 70 mile bike, 17 mile run. Hopefully the body holds up.

Good luck, the weather is crap today, here's hoping about 4 hours makes some difference in the amount of water on the road, it has me super nervous!

kristine25 - 2012-06-02 6:30 AM Did my last long run before taper yesterday.  A 20 miler.  From my 3 marathons and training runs I realized it was my 10th 20+ miler.  It doesn't get any easier.  I can't figure out in my head how I am gonna go 26.2 after 112 on the bike.  Yikes I am tired!!!

Nice work on all the runs.  I stopped trying to wrap my head around it all, because I can't either!  I think at this point, it's just go out and everything will come together just fine.

The weather is nasty today. Was looking forward to my last long ride on the course this morning but I'm wimping out. Going to have to switch around weekend workouts and ride tomorrow instead. Hope everyone has a great training weekend.

We finally had some beautiful weather for my last long ride.  It was 58 at the start and only got to 78 at the end. Winds were around 10mph which was awesome and very light for around here.

I'm going to have to totally disagree on the not pushing on the down hills.  Light spinning on the up hill, slightly increase the watts going over the top and hammer it downhill until you don't have any gears left.  It's such and easy time gainer to push the downhills.  I can promise you that you can't produce the same watts going down as you will going up, but you get great speed out of it.  Anyway thats my input.

100 miler out of the way, 20 mph headwinds for about 40 miles, the other 60 were a mix of tail, side and headwind.  It was not fun.

You're right the weather was nasty. The swim ended up being 2.2. Waited for the rain to stop to bike then headed. Got the 70 in some nasty winds. Ended up only doing 14 on the run. My hamstring started bothering me so I ended up cutting it short. Gotta be smart this close to the race.

Last 100 miler done yesterday - not too windy but it was 95*, which was not fun.  Hoping for much cooler temps in CdA!

About to head out for long swim and a recovery 10 mi run after, then taper begins!!!

Oh no!  Not sure how this will sound but, I am happy it wasn't worse, not that a concussion and the rest isn't bad enough.

Got my final big run in, although I ran out of liquids and steam at mile 15, oh well.  Time to start tapering and rejuvenating the body!

Last super long Brick done today (105 ride/8 run)....taper time! I think I still have an 80 and a 50 bike before race week but the numbers are getting smaller and I'm so ready for some recovery time.Hate to hear about bike crashes and concussions! Rest and feel better! My training partner did the same thing last weekend. She eased back into training and is doing well but it's scary stuff.Happy Taper!

Hi All, I just wanted to chime in and thank everyone for the great information. I have done 3 half IM's but not a full one. Your help has been great. Century rides, Wet suites and peeing-while-on-bike has all been new to me. And NO Im not wetting myself to cut 5 minutes off my time. Im recovering from a Saturday 18 mile run and a 6am 75 mile bike Today. Good luck to you all in CDA. Keep the relevant info coming. Happy Tapering!

Wow - hate to hear this.  Hope you're ok (concussion and road rash aside) and your bike is too.  Rest up and we'll see you in a few weeks on the course.

I feel like wrapping myself in bubble wrap for the next three weeks to make sure I get to the start without injury!

Sure don't like hearing about crashes! Hope the healing is quick. I came about 2 seconds from my own major crash today too...I think the bubble wrap idea is a good one! Last full course ride today before race day. For whoever's in charge of the weather, may we please have race day weather just like today?? Thanks!

Yeah!!  It's taper time for most of us!!!  Had a huge week with a 2.4 mile OWS, a 20 mile run, and a 101 mile ride.  For the first time, I did my Long run before my long ride.  Glad I hadn't done that before.  Had a hard time recovering from my run.  Very very sore shins which actually prevented me from running after my long ride yesterday.  Came home and did a ice bath and iced my shines several times during the rest of the day.  I have had 3 stress fractures in my running career so I am treating them with kid gloves at this point.

Hope everyone is getting as excited and nervous and me!!

Wondering if there are any updates on the water temperature?  For those of you who have done this race or other cold water races are you cold getting onto the bike or does the adrenalin warm you up?  I am like a popsicle at the best of times so a little worried about being very cold in the water despite the suit and cap and then getting on he bike shivering.  Thanks in advance for the input!

This site takes the water temp reading very close to the Swim Start from what the locals say:

Hit a car yesterday on my way home. Car pulled out from a stop sign in front of me, I locked up the brakes and slid sideways into the passenger door hitting it with my left arm and leg. Had a fairly excited conversation with the driver.

Fortunately no damage to myself or the bike but I almost pee'd on the bike for the first time.

I raced here last year and the water was 55* at the swim start. My advice is to get there a few days early an do a practice swim everyday for a few minutes (15-30) just to get used to the cold water. We got in last year on Friday and I was really worried that I wasn't going to be able to get through the swim, fortunately the swim on Saturday was better (since we knew what to expect) and Sunday wasn't that bad at all after the initial shock wore off. I wore a cap but no booties last year and felt fine after my hands and feet went numb. Another piece of advice, don't underestimate how much the cold water will take out of you during the swim. It takes more calories to keep your body warm in water that cold so allow for that and start your nutrition plan early on the bike. It might not be a bad idea to try and pack in a few extra calories during the first hour or two.

That's something I haven't heard before and it makes sense...thanks for the tip!

Any thoughts on what to wear on the bike?  I'm planning on wearing my kit start to finish.  Sleeves, Jacket, or dry bike jersey for the ride?

depending on the weather, I think I might just tough it out in my race kit and not worry about arm warmers.  If I recall from previous years, my body was pretty cold from the swim and the cool air on the bike didn't really affect me much.  after it warms up (and you warm up), it's great.

my biggest fears while riding.  I am sure that conversation was heated.  glad you're ok.

I ended up skipping my 10 mi run yesterday after the swim.  Right IT band had been bothering me the last 15 miles of the ride on Sat and hurt enough afterwards that I canned the planned brick run.  Had hoped the swim would stretch it out and relax it, but it didn't so I skipped it too.

Rest day today!  So happy taper is here, and trying not to worry that I didn't do enough!
